General considerations of matter coupling with the self-dual connection

    Get PDF
It has been shown for low-spin fields that the use of only the self-dual part of the connection as basic variable does not lead to extra conditions or inconsistencies. We study whether this is true for more general chiral action. We generalize the chiral gravitational action, and assume that half-integer spin fields are coupled with torsion linearly. The equation for torsion is solved and substituted back into the generalized chiral action, giving four-fermion contact terms. If these contact terms are complex, the imaginary part will give rise to extra conditions for the gravitational and matter field equations. We study the four-fermion contact terms taking spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 fields as examples.Comment: 16 pages, late

    Synthetic cannabinoids : general considerations

    Get PDF
Around 2008 synthetic cannabinoids were found to be present in and responsible for the psychoactive effects of herbal mixtures with names like ‘Spice’ or ‘K2’. In response to the increased popularity of these products, (inter)national organizations and governments started banning these cannabimimetics gradually. However, the lack of an uniform and international regulation makes it hard to control this issue. For the different types of synthetic cannabinoids the scientific knowledge in terms of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics is limited. This also means that little is known on the health of users, both on short and long term. In the last years effort has been made to make detection of these products possible in different biological matrices. However, since the number of cannabimimetic compounds on the market appears to grow every month, both scientist and legislators run after a moving target

Are There Philosophical Answers to Psychiatric Questions?

    Get PDF
Contemporary psychiatry has only one generally accepted model, that of biological – materialist explanation and treatment. But clinicians recognize that this model omits much that is important and they therefore confront a dilemma: either limit their practice to an incomplete model, or use other models which seem unfounded and speculative. Philosophical considerations may help clinicians find a way out 1) by showing the inherent limitations of biological – materialist explanations, and 2) by grounding other (psychotherapeutic) approaches on general considerations of how the mind, and in particular language, works. These general considerations include: the dependence of meaning upon environmental context, the attribution of meaning as involving sets of skills, capacities and reactions, the multiplicity of language games and therefore their individual limitations, the dependence of meaning upon our shared interests, the largely unconscious nature of mind and our necessary limitations to public criteria for mental events and processes

    THE RIGHT GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS

Aw is the normative and institutional order of human behavior in society inspired by postulates of justice, based on existing social relations that determine its content and character. In other words, they are behaviors directed to the observance of norms that regulate the social coexistence and allow to resolve intersubjective conflicts. The initial definition gives account of positive law, but not its foundation; jurists, philosophers and law theorists have proposed throughout history various alternative definitions and different legal theories without a consensus to date on their validity.Aw is the normative and institutional order of human behavior in society inspired by postulates of justice, based on existing social relations that determine its content and character.
