Capture of carriers to screened charged centres and low temperature shallow impurity electric field break down in semiconductors
Free carrier capture by a screened Coulomb potential in semiconductors are
considered. It is established that with decreasing screening radius the capture
cross section decreases drastically, and it goes to zero when .
On the basis of this result a new mechanism of shallow impurity electric field

Star clusters and the structure of the ISM. Tunnels and wakes in giant extragalactic HII regions
Several structures have been discovered embedded in regions of recent or
ongoing star formation, which point to the importance of the interaction
between fast moving wind-blowing stars and their environment. Using
hydrodynamic simulations, we investigate the passage through the interstellar
medium of a supersonic stellar wind source, and show how it can naturally lead
to the formation of tubes, channels and swamps of globules as interfaces are
crossed. The results are in excellent agreement with observation of 30 Doradus.Comment: 12 pages + 5 figures (GIF format) - Accepted for pub. in Astrophys.

Brown Dwarfs in the Pleiades Cluster. III. A deep IZ survey
We present the results of a deep CCD-based IZ photometric survey of a ~1 sq.
deg area in the central region of the Pleiades Galactic open cluster. The
magnitude coverage of our survey (from I~17.5 down to 22) allows us to detect
substellar candidates with masses between 0.075 and 0.03 Msol. Details of the
photometric reduction and selection criteria are given. Finder charts prepared

Influence of Dislocations in Thomson's Problem
We investigate Thomson's problem of charges on a sphere as an example of a
system with complex interactions. Assuming certain symmetries we can work with
a larger number of charges than before. We found that, when the number of
charges is large enough, the lowest energy states are not those with the
highest symmetry. As predicted previously by Dodgson and Moore, the complex
patterns in these states involve dislocation defects which screen the strains
of the twelve disclinations required to satisfy Euler's theorem.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures in gif format. Original PS files can be obtained

Molecular dynamic simulation of a homogeneous bcc -> hcp transition
We have performed molecular dynamic simulations of a Martensitic bcc->hcp
transformation in a homogeneous system. The system evolves into three
Martensitic variants, sharing a common nearest neighbor vector along a bcc
direction, plus an fcc region. Nucleation occurs locally, followed by
subsequent growth. We monitor the time-dependent scattering S(q,t) during the
transformation, and find anomalous, Brillouin zone-dependent scattering similar
to that observed experimentally in a number of systems above the transformation
temperature. This scattering is shown to be related to the elastic strain
associated with the transformation, and is not directly related to the phonon

Probing Transport Theories via Two-Proton Source Imaging
Imaging technique is applied to two-proton correlation functions to extract
quantitative information about the space-time properties of the emitting source
and about the fraction of protons that can be attributed to fast emission
mechanisms. These new analysis techniques resolve important ambiguities that
bedeviled prior comparisons between measured correlation functions and those
calculated by transport theory. Quantitative comparisons to transport theory
are presented here. The results of the present analysis differ from those
reported previously for the same reaction systems. The shape of the two-proton
emitting sources are strongly sensitive to the details about the in-medium
