Real spin glasses relax slowly in the shade of hierarchical trees
The Parisi solution of the mean-field spin glass has been widely accepted and
celebrated. Its marginal stability in 3d and its complexity however raised the
question of its relevance to real spin glasses. This paper gives a short
overview of the important experimental results which could be understood within
the mean-field solution. The existence of a true phase transition and the
particular behaviour of the susceptibility below the freezing temperature,
predicted by the theory, are clearly confirmed by the experimental results. The
behaviour of the complex order parameter and of the Fluctuation Dissipation
ratio are in good agreement with results of spontaneous noise measurements. The
very particular ultrametric symmetry, the key feature of the theory, provided
us with a simple description of the rejuvenation and memory effects observed in
experiment. Finally, going a step beyond mean-field, the paper shortly
discusses new analyses in terms of correlated domains characterized by their
length scales, as well as new experiments on superspin glasses which compare
well with recent theoretical simulations.Comment: To appear in the proceedings of "Wandering with Curiosity in Complex

Neutrosophic soft sets forecasting model for multi-attribute time series
Traditional time series forecasting models mainly assume a clear and definite functional relationship between historical values and current/future values of a dataset. In this paper, we extended current model by generating multi-attribute forecasting rules based on consideration of combining multiple related variables. In this model, neutrosophic soft sets (NSSs) are employed to represent historical statues of several closely related attributes in stock market such as volumes, stock market index and daily amplitudes
Universal patterns in sound amplitudes of songs and music genres
We report a statistical analysis over more than eight thousand songs.
Specifically, we investigate the probability distribution of the normalized
sound amplitudes. Our findings seems to suggest a universal form of
distribution which presents a good agreement with a one-parameter stretched
Gaussian. We also argue that this parameter can give information on music
complexity, and consequently it goes towards classifying songs as well as music
genres. Additionally, we present statistical evidences that correlation aspects
of the songs are directly related with the non-Gaussian nature of their sound
amplitude distributions.Comment: Accepted for publication as a Brief Report in Physical Review
Online Battery Protective Energy Management for Energy-Transportation Nexus
Grid-connected electric vehicles (GEVs) and energy-transportation nexus bring a bright prospect to improve the penetration of renewable energy and the economy of microgrids (MGs). However, it is challenging to determine optimal vehicle-to-grid (V2G) strategies due to the complex battery aging mechanism and volatile MG states. This article develops a novel online battery anti-aging energy management method for energy-transportation nexus by using a novel deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework. Based on battery aging characteristic analysis and rain-flow cycle counting technology, the quantification of aging cost in V2G strategies is realized by modeling the impact of number of cycles, depth of discharge, and charge and discharge rate. The established life loss model is used to evaluate battery anti-aging effectiveness of agent actions. The coordination of GEVs charging is modeled as multiobjective learning by using a DRL algorithm. The training objective is to maximize renewable penetration while reducing MG power fluctuations and vehicle battery aging costs. The developed energy-transportation nexus energy management method is verified to be effective in optimal power balancing and battery anti-aging control on a MG in the U.K. This article provides an efficient and economical tool for MG power balancing by optimally coordinating GEVs charging and renewable energy, thus helping promote a low-cost decarbonization transition.</p
