Yet Another Tutorial of Disturbance Observer: Robust Stabilization and Recovery of Nominal Performance
This paper presents a tutorial-style review on the recent results about the
disturbance observer (DOB) in view of robust stabilization and recovery of the
nominal performance. The analysis is based on the case when the bandwidth of
Q-filter is large, and it is explained in a pedagogical manner that, even in
the presence of plant uncertainties and disturbances, the behavior of real
uncertain plant can be made almost similar to that of disturbance-free nominal
system both in the transient and in the steady-state. The conventional DOB is
interpreted in a new perspective, and its restrictions and extensions are
discussed
GA-tuning of nonlinear observers for sensorless control of automotive power steering IPMSMs
The paper considers two observer-based rotor position estimation schemes for sensorless control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) for use in future automotive power steering systems. Specifically, emphasis is given to techniques based on feedback-linearisation followed by classical Luenberger observer design, and direct design of non-linear observers. Genetic algorithms (GAs), using the principles of evolution, natural selection and genetic mutation, are introduced to address difficulties in selecting correction gains for the observers, since no analytical tuning mechanisms yet exist. Experimental measurements from an automotive power steering test-facility are included, to demonstrate the enhanced performance attributes offered by tuning the proposed observer schemes, online, in this manner
On output feedback nonlinear model predictive control using high gain observers for a class of systems
In recent years, nonlinear model predictive control schemes have been derived that guarantee stability of the closed loop under the assumption of full state information. However, only limited advances have been made with respect to output feedback in connection to nonlinear predictive control. Most of the existing approaches for output feedback nonlinear model predictive control do only guarantee local stability. Here we consider the combination of stabilizing instantaneous NMPC schemes with high gain observers. For a special MIMO system class we show that the closed loop is asymptotically stable, and that the output feedback NMPC scheme recovers the performance of the state feedback in the sense that the region of attraction and the trajectories of the state feedback scheme are recovered for a high gain observer with large enough gain and thus leading to semi-global/non-local results
An energy-based state observer for dynamical subsystems with inaccessible state variables
This work presents an energy-based state estimation formalism for a class of dynamical systems with inaccessible/ unknown outputs, and systems at which sensor utilization is impractical, or when measurements can not be taken. The
power-conserving physical interconnections among most of the dynamical subsystems allow for power exchange through their power ports. Power exchange is conceptually considered as information exchange among the dynamical subsystems and further utilized to develop a natural feedback-like information
from a class of dynamical systems with inaccessible/unknown outputs. This information is used in the design of an energybased state observer. Convergence stability of the estimation error for the proposed state observer is proved for systems with linear dynamics. Furthermore, robustness of the convergence stability is analyzed over a range of parameter deviation and model uncertainties. Experiments are conducted on a dynamical system with a single input and multiple inaccessible outputs (Fig. 1) to demonstrate the validity of the proposed energybased state estimation formalism

Static consensus in passifiable linear networks
Sufficient conditions of consensus (synchronization) in networks described by
digraphs and consisting of identical determenistic SIMO systems are derived.
Identical and nonidentical control gains (positive arc weights) are considered.
Connection between admissible digraphs and nonsmooth hypersurfaces (sufficient
gain boundary) is established. Necessary and sufficient conditions for static
consensus by output feedback in networks consisting of certain class of double
integrators are rediscovered. Scalability for circle digraph in terms of gain
magnitudes is studied. Examples and results of numerical simulations are
presented.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figure
