    Redundancy in Face Image Recognition

    Many researchers paid attention to formulate different algorithms to faces and its classes for accurate classification but, did not paid attention to the fact that redundancy may exists even though faces with different classes are effectively classified. Researchers working on SVD and its extended algorithm versions which were based on face matrix decomposition for face recognition concluded that they are the best algorithms for classification of occluded faces. The problem with these designed algorithms is that there is every likely hood of having more than one value of amplification factor along with classified faces. It is pointed out by researchers that every face will be having one and only one amplification factor and its classified face. This factor will definitely add to the already existing facial recognition problems and challenges.     Capture of manufacturing uncertainty in turbine blades through probabilistic techniques

    Efficient designing of the turbine blades is critical to the performance of an aircraft engine. An area of significant research interest is the capture of manufacturing uncertainty in the shapes of these turbine blades. The available data used for estimation of this manufacturing uncertainty inevitably contains the effects of measurement error/noise. In the present work, we propose the application of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for de-noising the measurement data and quantifying the underlying manufacturing uncertainty. Once the PCA is performed, a method for dimensionality reduction has been proposed which utilizes prior information available on the variance of measurement error for different measurement types. Numerical studies indicate that approximately 82% of the variation in the measurements from their design values is accounted for by the manufacturing uncertainty, while the remaining 18% variation is filtered out as measurement error

    Geometric Distribution Weight Information Modeled Using Radial Basis Function with Fractional Order for Linear Discriminant Analysis Method

    Fisher linear discriminant analysis (FLDA) is a classic linear feature extraction and dimensionality reduction approach for face recognition. It is known that geometric distribution weight information of image data plays an important role in machine learning approaches. However, FLDA does not employ the geometric distribution weight information of facial images in the training stage. Hence, its recognition accuracy will be affected. In order to enhance the classification power of FLDA method, this paper utilizes radial basis function (RBF) with fractional order to model the geometric distribution weight information of the training samples and proposes a novel geometric distribution weight information based Fisher discriminant criterion. Subsequently, a geometric distribution weight information based LDA (GLDA) algorithm is developed and successfully applied to face recognition. Two publicly available face databases, namely, ORL and FERET databases, are selected for evaluation. Compared with some LDA-based algorithms, experimental results exhibit that our GLDA approach gives superior performance
