Formalizing the transformations of a cognitive universe

International audienceIn an effort to continue the pioneering work of Harary in USA and Flament in France, we have undertaken to develop, on an experimental basis, a formalized theory of systems of beliefs and their modifications. This theory uses the psycho-social concepts of theories of cognitive consistency and of the tools of discrete mathematics, such as rewriting and intervals within graphs. The axioms and rewriting rules are elaborated from experimental data, and we demonstrate that the system we have built has the property of termination. This result is in accordance with experimental observations that show that every subject having an inconsistent system of beliefs (i.e., one containing contradictions) makes this system evolve towards consistency to reach a simple, consistent reference framework

Informal Entrepreneurship: An Integrative Review and Future Research Agenda

Informal entrepreneurship (IE) has received increased recognition because of its theoreticaldistinctiveness and practical relevance. However, the burgeoning literature on IE is difficult tonavigate, due to its rapid growth across different disciplines. Through an integrative review, weintroduce a novel typology of informal entrepreneurs that captures their heterogeneity acrossvarious contexts. We point out a dynamic perspective of IE, consisting of three pathways—thereactive formalizing, theproactive formalizing, and theinformalizing pathways—along which informalentrepreneurs move, acquiring or foregoing regulative legitimacy. Our review extends the theoryon IE, outlines promising research avenues, and suggests relevant practical implications

From Simple to Complex and Ultra-complex Systems:\ud A Paradigm Shift Towards Non-Abelian Systems Dynamics

Atoms, molecules, organisms distinguish layers of reality because of the causal links that govern their behavior, both horizontally (atom-atom, molecule-molecule, organism-organism) and vertically (atom-molecule-organism). This is the first intuition of the theory of levels. Even if the further development of the theory will require imposing a number of qualifications to this initial intuition, the idea of a series of entities organized on different levels of complexity will prove correct. Living systems as well as social systems and the human mind present features remarkably different from those characterizing non-living, simple physical and chemical systems. We propose that super-complexity requires at least four different categorical frameworks, provided by the theories of levels of reality, chronotopoids, (generalized) interactions, and anticipation

Theoretical Setting of Inner Reversible Quantum Measurements

We show that any unitary transformation performed on the quantum state of a closed quantum system, describes an inner, reversible, generalized quantum measurement. We also show that under some specific conditions it is possible to perform a unitary transformation on the state of the closed quantum system by means of a collection of generalized measurement operators. In particular, given a complete set of orthogonal projectors, it is possible to implement a reversible quantum measurement that preserves the probabilities. In this context, we introduce the concept of "Truth-Observable", which is the physical counterpart of an inner logical truth.Comment: 11 pages. Recent Conceptual Consequences of Loop Quantum Gravity. Part II: Holistic Aspects

    Get PDF
Based on the foundational aspects which have been discussed as consequences of ongoing research on loop quantum gravity in the first part of this paper, the holistic aspects of the latter are discussed in this second part, aiming at a consistent and systematic approach to eventually model a hierarchically ordered architecture of the world which is encompassing all of what there actually is. The idea is to clarify the explicit relationship between physics and philosophy on the one hand, and philosophy and the sciences in general, on the other. It is shown that the ontological determination of worldliness is practically identical with its epistemological determination so that the (scientific) activity of modelling and representing the world can be visualized itself as a (worldly) mode of being.Comment: 20 page
