Reasoning About a Service-oriented Programming Paradigm
This paper is about a new way for programming distributed applications: the
service-oriented one. It is a concept paper based upon our experience in
developing a theory and a language for programming services. Both the
theoretical formalization and the language interpreter showed us the evidence
that a new programming paradigm exists. In this paper we illustrate the basic

PRISE: An Integrated Platform for Research and Teaching of Critical Embedded Systems
In this paper, we present PRISE, an integrated workbench for Research and Teaching of critical embedded systems at ISAE, the French Institute for Space and Aeronautics Engineering. PRISE is built around state-of-the-art technologies for the engineering of space and avionics systems used in Space and Avionics domain. It aims at demonstrating key aspects of critical, real-time, embedded systems used in the transport industry, but also validating new scientific contributions for the engineering of software functions. PRISE combines embedded and simulation platforms, and modeling tools. This platform is available for both research and teaching. Being built around widely used commercial and open source software; PRISE aims at being a reference platform for our teaching and research activities at ISAE
Distributed Matrix-Vector Multiplication: A Convolutional Coding Approach
Distributed computing systems are well-known to suffer from the problem of
slow or failed nodes; these are referred to as stragglers. Straggler mitigation
(for distributed matrix computations) has recently been investigated from the
standpoint of erasure coding in several works. In this work we present a
strategy for distributed matrix-vector multiplication based on convolutional
coding. Our scheme can be decoded using a low-complexity peeling decoder. The
recovery process enjoys excellent numerical stability as compared to
Reed-Solomon coding based approaches (which exhibit significant problems owing
their badly conditioned decoding matrices). Finally, our schemes are better
matched to the practically important case of sparse matrix-vector
multiplication as compared to many previous schemes. Extensive simulation
results corroborate our findings
HLA high performance and real-time simulation studies with CERTI
Our work takes place in the context of the HLA standard and its application in real-time systems context. Indeed, current HLA standard is inadequate for taking into consideration the different constraints involved in real-time computer systems. Many works have been invested in order to provide real-time capabilities to Run Time Infrastructures (RTI). This paper describes our approach focusing on achieving hard real-time properties for HLA federations through a complete state of the art on the related domain. AADLib, A Library of Reusable AADL Models
The SAE Architecture Analysis and Design Language is now a well-established language for the description of critical embedded systems, but also cyber-physical ones. A wide range of analysis tools is already available, either as part of the OSATE tool chain, or separate ones.
A key missing elements of AADL is a set of reusable building blocks to help learning AADL concepts, but also experiment already existing tool chains on validated real-life examples.
In this paper, we present AADLib, a library of reusable model elements. AADLib is build on two pillars: 1/ a set of ready-to- use examples so that practitioners can learn more about the AADL language itself, but also experiment with existing tools. Each example comes with a full description of available analysis and expected results. This helps reducing the learning curve of the language. 2/ a set of reusable model elements that cover typical building blocks of critical systems: processors, networks, devices with a high level of fidelity so that the cost to start a new project is reduced.
AADLib is distributed under a Free/Open Source License to further disseminate the AADL language. As such, AADLib provides a convenient way to discover AADL concepts and tool chains, and learn about its features
Do we really need to write documentation for a system? CASE tool add-ons: generator+editor for a precise documentation
One of the common problems of system development projects is that the system
documentation is often outdated and does not describe the latest version of the
system. The situation is even more complicated if we are speaking not about a
natural language description of the system, but about its formal specification.
In this paper we discuss how the problem could be solved by updating the
documentation automatically, by generating a new formal specification from the
