    Analysis domain model for shared virtual environments

    The field of shared virtual environments, which also encompasses online games and social 3D environments, has a system landscape consisting of multiple solutions that share great functional overlap. However, there is little system interoperability between the different solutions. A shared virtual environment has an associated problem domain that is highly complex raising difficult challenges to the development process, starting with the architectural design of the underlying system. This paper has two main contributions. The first contribution is a broad domain analysis of shared virtual environments, which enables developers to have a better understanding of the whole rather than the part(s). The second contribution is a reference domain model for discussing and describing solutions - the Analysis Domain Model

    The social robot's current and anticipated roles as butler, teacher, receptionist or carer for the elderly share a fundamental anthropocentric bias: they are designed to be benign, to facilitate a transaction that aims to be both useful to and simple for the human. At a time when intelligent machines are becoming a tangible prospect, such a bias does not leave much room for exploring and understanding the ongoing changes affecting the relation between humans and our technological environment. Can art robots – robots invented by artists – offer a non-benign-by-default perspective that opens the field for a machine to express its machinic potential beyond the limits imposed by an anthropocentric and market-driven approach? The paper addresses these questions by considering and contextualising early cybernetic machines, current developments in social robotics, and art robots by the author and other artists

    Robotics is the ­new-age domain of technology that deals with bringing a collaboration of all disciplines of sciences and engineering to create a mechanical machine that may or may not work entirely independently but definitely focuses on making human lives much easier. It has repeatedly shown its ability to change lives at home and in the industry. As the field of robotics research grows and reaches new worlds, the military is one area where advances can have a significant impact, and the government is aware of this. Military technology has come a long way from the days where soldiers had to walk into traps, putting their own lives in danger for their fellow soldiers, to today, when soldiers have robots walk into the same traps with possibility and result of zero human casualties. High-risk military operations such as mine detection, bomb defusing, fighter pilot aviation, and entering enemy territory without complete knowledge of what is to come are all tasks that can be programmed in a way that makes them accustomed to scenarios like these, either by intensive machine learning algorithms or artificially intelligent robot systems. Military soldiers are human capital; they are not self-driving robots; they are living beings with emotions, fears, and weaknesses, and they will almost always be unreliable as compared to computers and robots. They are easily affected by environmental effects and are vulnerable to external influences. The government\u27s costs for deployed troops, such as training and salaries, are extremely high. As a result, the solution is to build AI robots for defence operations that can sense, collect data by observing surroundings as any human soldier would, and report it back to a workstation where it can be used for strategy building and planning on what the next step should be during a mission, thus making the army better prepared for any kind of trouble that might be on their way. In this paper, the survey and bibliometric analysis of AI-based IoT managed Swarm Robots from the Scopus repository is discussed, which analyses research by area, notable authors, organizations, funding agencies and countries. Statistical analysis of literature published as journals, articles and papers that aids in understanding the global influence of publication is called Bibliometric analysis. This paper is a thorough analysis of 84 research papers as obtained from the Scopus repository on the 3rd of April 2021. GPS Visualizer, Gephi, wordcloud, and ScienceScape are open source softwares used in the visualization review.     The shipbuilding industry has historically shaped global trade, logistics, research, and cultural globalization. It was instrumental in exploring and colonizing new continents, thereby significantly shaping our society. Today, it's essential to consider the industry's current transformations and speculate on what shipbuilding might look like in the 22nd century. This study is dedicated to exploring the possible futures of shipbuilding over a long-range time horizon of 70 -100 years. This thesis applied futures research methods to data collected using OpenAI tools and explored possible transformative pathways within the industry. The research offers potential future scenarios and delineates change pathways from external pressures and internal shifts within the shipbuilding system. Additionally, the study highlights the possible applications and implications of utilizing OpenAI technology in a research context. The analysis of shipbuilding incorporates the Multi-Level Perspective (MLP) concept, viewing the industry as a system involving ten groups of key actors. This structure guided the data collection process for the input of the research. The primary research process adheres to traditional futures research methods, which include horizon scanning, systems thinking, scenario building, and causal layered analysis (CLA). Furthermore, the methodology was expanded to incorporate AI-assisted techniques. This includes using AI technology for automated data collection and a separate pathway using ChatGPT-4 for computer-generated scenarios and CLA narratives development. The outcomes from both methodologies are compared, and additional literature research about the applicability and implications of using AI in futures studies. The research has identified critical external drivers of change, originating from fields such as technology, energy, and social development, as well as internal drivers, including biotechnology and diversifying floating structures. The external drivers could influence the future direction of shipbuilding, while the internal factors represent potential changes originating from within the industry. The constructed scenarios are designed to stimulate discussion and provide context for future developmental trajectories of shipbuilding

    The utility as well as contribution of applications in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has been experienced by the users from more than a decade. However, with the evolution of time, it has been found that there is a massive growth of data generation even in WSN. The smaller size of sensor with limited battery life and minimal computational capability cannot handle processive such a massive stream of complex data efficiently. Although, there are various types of mining techniques being practiced today, but such tools and techniques cannot be efficiently used for analyzing such complex and massively growing data. This paper therefore discusses about the generation of large data and issues of the existing research techniques by reviewing the literatures and frequently used tools. The study finally briefs about the significant research gap that calls for need of data analytical tools in extracting knowledge from complex sensory data

    Acoustic Cybersecurity: Exploiting Voice-Activated Systems

    In this study, we investigate the emerging threat of inaudible acoustic attacks targeting digital voice assistants, a critical concern given their projected prevalence to exceed the global population by 2024. Our research extends the feasibility of these attacks across various platforms like Amazon's Alexa, Android, iOS, and Cortana, revealing significant vulnerabilities in smart devices. The twelve attack vectors identified include successful manipulation of smart home devices and automotive systems, potential breaches in military communication, and challenges in critical infrastructure security. We quantitatively show that attack success rates hover around 60%, with the ability to activate devices remotely from over 100 feet away. Additionally, these attacks threaten critical infrastructure, emphasizing the need for multifaceted defensive strategies combining acoustic shielding, advanced signal processing, machine learning, and robust user authentication to mitigate these risks

    Robotic Wireless Sensor Networks

    In this chapter, we present a literature survey of an emerging, cutting-edge, and multi-disciplinary field of research at the intersection of Robotics and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) which we refer to as Robotic Wireless Sensor Networks (RWSN). We define a RWSN as an autonomous networked multi-robot system that aims to achieve certain sensing goals while meeting and maintaining certain communication performance requirements, through cooperative control, learning and adaptation. While both of the component areas, i.e., Robotics and WSN, are very well-known and well-explored, there exist a whole set of new opportunities and research directions at the intersection of these two fields which are relatively or even completely unexplored. One such example would be the use of a set of robotic routers to set up a temporary communication path between a sender and a receiver that uses the controlled mobility to the advantage of packet routing. We find that there exist only a limited number of articles to be directly categorized as RWSN related works whereas there exist a range of articles in the robotics and the WSN literature that are also relevant to this new field of research. To connect the dots, we first identify the core problems and research trends related to RWSN such as connectivity, localization, routing, and robust flow of information. Next, we classify the existing research on RWSN as well as the relevant state-of-the-arts from robotics and WSN community according to the problems and trends identified in the first step. Lastly, we analyze what is missing in the existing literature, and identify topics that require more research attention in the future

    Blockchain Technologies: A Study of the Future of Education

    This paper provides insights into the possible, plausible and desirable futures of using blockchain technologies in education. While several universities and education providers are already beginning to use blockchain technologies for complex record manipulations, accounting, and certification of credentials, a whole-systems approach provides a broader view of the issues, promises and challenges associated with using blockchain technologies in education. The study uses social inquiry and causal layered analysis (CLA) to explore impacts across social, economic, environmental, policy, and values dimensions. Findings suggest the needs for new driving metaphors and myths about the purpose and value of education and its place in society as a public good, challenging traditional narratives of the importance and value of formal education and degrees. The implications of this study include a consideration of wider social factors that become important for implementing transformative change in education, presenting challenges to traditional K-12 and higher education curriculum, outcomes, and infrastructure
