Scalable Parallel Numerical CSP Solver
We present a parallel solver for numerical constraint satisfaction problems
(NCSPs) that can scale on a number of cores. Our proposed method runs worker
solvers on the available cores and simultaneously the workers cooperate for the
search space distribution and balancing. In the experiments, we attained up to
119-fold speedup using 256 cores of a parallel computer.Comment: The final publication is available at Springe
Scalable Parallel Numerical Constraint Solver Using Global Load Balancing
We present a scalable parallel solver for numerical constraint satisfaction
problems (NCSPs). Our parallelization scheme consists of homogeneous worker
solvers, each of which runs on an available core and communicates with others
via the global load balancing (GLB) method. The parallel solver is implemented
with X10 that provides an implementation of GLB as a library. In experiments,
several NCSPs from the literature were solved and attained up to 516-fold
speedup using 600 cores of the TSUBAME2.5 supercomputer.Comment: To be presented at X10'15 Worksho
Application of parallel distributed processing to space based systems
The concept of using Parallel Distributed Processing (PDP) to enhance automated experiment monitoring and control is explored. Recent very large scale integration (VLSI) advances have made such applications an achievable goal. The PDP machine has demonstrated the ability to automatically organize stored information, handle unfamiliar and contradictory input data and perform the actions necessary. The PDP machine has demonstrated that it can perform inference and knowledge operations with greater speed and flexibility and at lower cost than traditional architectures. In applications where the rule set governing an expert system's decisions is difficult to formulate, PDP can be used to extract rules by associating the information an expert receives with the actions taken
Computational methods and software systems for dynamics and control of large space structures
Two key areas of crucial importance to the computer-based simulation of large space structures are discussed. The first area involves multibody dynamics (MBD) of flexible space structures, with applications directed to deployment, construction, and maneuvering. The second area deals with advanced software systems, with emphasis on parallel processing. The latest research thrust in the second area involves massively parallel computers
Contrastive Learning for Lifted Networks
In this work we address supervised learning of neural networks via lifted
network formulations. Lifted networks are interesting because they allow
training on massively parallel hardware and assign energy models to
discriminatively trained neural networks. We demonstrate that the training
methods for lifted networks proposed in the literature have significant
limitations and show how to use a contrastive loss to address those
limitations. We demonstrate that this contrastive training approximates
back-propagation in theory and in practice and that it is superior to the
training objective regularly used for lifted networks.Comment: 9 pages, BMVC 201
