A general framework of multi-population methods with clustering in undetectable dynamic environments

Many experimental studies have shown that locating and tracking multiple relatively good optima rather than a single global optimum is an effective idea in dynamic environments. However, several challenges need to be addressed when multi-population methods are applied, e.g.,
how to create multiple populations, how to maintain them in different sub-areas, and how to deal with the situation where changes can not be detected or predicted. To address these issues, this paper investigates a hierarchical clustering method to locate and track multiple optima for dynamic optimization problems. To deal with undetectable dynamic environments, this
paper applies the random immigrants method without change detection based on a mechanism that can automatically reduce redundant individuals in the search space throughout the run. These methods are implemented into several research areas, including particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithm, and differential evolution. An experimental study is conducted based on the moving peaks benchmark to test the performance with several other algorithms from the literature. The experimental
results show the efficiency of the clustering method for locating and tracking multiple optima in comparison with other algorithms based on multi-population methods on the moving peaks

Multiorder neurons for evolutionary higher-order clustering and growth
This letter proposes to use multiorder neurons for clustering irregularly shaped data arrangements. Multiorder neurons are an evolutionary extension of the use of higher-order neurons in clustering. Higher-order neurons parametrically model complex neuron shapes by replacing the classic synaptic weight by higher-order tensors. The multiorder neuron goes one step further and eliminates two problems associated with higher-order neurons. First, it uses evolutionary algorithms to select the best neuron order for a given problem. Second, it obtains more information about the underlying data distribution by identifying the correct order for a given cluster of patterns. Empirically we observed that when the correlation of clusters found with ground truth information is used in measuring clustering accuracy, the proposed evolutionary multiorder neurons method can be shown to outperform other related clustering methods. The simulation results from the Iris, Wine, and Glass data sets show significant improvement when compared to the results obtained using self-organizing maps and higher-order neurons. Detecting Community Structure in Dynamic Social Networks Using the Concept of Leadership
Detecting community structure in social networks is a fundamental problem
empowering us to identify groups of actors with similar interests. There have
been extensive works focusing on finding communities in static networks,
however, in reality, due to dynamic nature of social networks, they are
evolving continuously. Ignoring the dynamic aspect of social networks, neither
allows us to capture evolutionary behavior of the network nor to predict the
future status of individuals. Aside from being dynamic, another significant
characteristic of real-world social networks is the presence of leaders, i.e.
nodes with high degree centrality having a high attraction to absorb other
members and hence to form a local community. In this paper, we devised an
efficient method to incrementally detect communities in highly dynamic social
networks using the intuitive idea of importance and persistence of community
leaders over time. Our proposed method is able to find new communities based on
the previous structure of the network without recomputing them from scratch.
This unique feature, enables us to efficiently detect and track communities
over time rapidly. Experimental results on the synthetic and real-world social
networks demonstrate that our method is both effective and efficient in
discovering communities in dynamic social networks
SUBIC: A Supervised Bi-Clustering Approach for Precision Medicine
Traditional medicine typically applies one-size-fits-all treatment for the
entire patient population whereas precision medicine develops tailored
treatment schemes for different patient subgroups. The fact that some factors
may be more significant for a specific patient subgroup motivates clinicians
and medical researchers to develop new approaches to subgroup detection and
analysis, which is an effective strategy to personalize treatment. In this
study, we propose a novel patient subgroup detection method, called Supervised
Biclustring (SUBIC) using convex optimization and apply our approach to detect
patient subgroups and prioritize risk factors for hypertension (HTN) in a
vulnerable demographic subgroup (African-American). Our approach not only finds
patient subgroups with guidance of a clinically relevant target variable but
also identifies and prioritizes risk factors by pursuing sparsity of the input
variables and encouraging similarity among the input variables and between the
input and target variable

A Clustering System for Dynamic Data Streams Based on Metaheuristic Optimisation
open access articleThis article presents the Optimised Stream clustering algorithm (OpStream), a novel approach to cluster dynamic data streams. The proposed system displays desirable features, such as a low number of parameters and good scalability capabilities to both high-dimensional data and numbers of clusters in the dataset, and it is based on a hybrid structure using deterministic clustering methods and stochastic optimisation approaches to optimally centre the clusters. Similar to other state-of-the-art methods available in the literature, it uses “microclusters” and other established techniques, such as density based clustering. Unlike other methods, it makes use of metaheuristic optimisation to maximise performances during the initialisation phase, which precedes the classic online phase. Experimental results show that OpStream outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in several cases, and it is always competitive against other comparison algorithms regardless of the chosen optimisation method. Three variants of OpStream, each coming with a different optimisation algorithm, are presented in this study. A thorough sensitive analysis is performed by using the best variant to point out OpStream’s robustness to noise and resiliency to parameter changes
Bi-Objective Community Detection (BOCD) in Networks using Genetic Algorithm
A lot of research effort has been put into community detection from all
corners of academic interest such as physics, mathematics and computer science.
In this paper I have proposed a Bi-Objective Genetic Algorithm for community
detection which maximizes modularity and community score. Then the results
obtained for both benchmark and real life data sets are compared with other
algorithms using the modularity and MNI performance metrics. The results show
that the BOCD algorithm is capable of successfully detecting community
structure in both real life and synthetic datasets, as well as improving upon

Evolutionary Robot Vision for People Tracking Based on Local Clustering
This paper discusses the role of evolutionary computation in visual perception for partner robots. The search of evolutionary computation has many analogies with human visual search. First of all, we discuss the analogies between the evolutionary search and human visual search. Next, we propose the concept of evolutionary robot vision, and a human tracking method based on the evolutionary robot vision. Finally, we show experimental results of the human tracking to discuss the effectiveness of our proposed method
