Evolutionary 4G/5G network architecture assisted efficient handover signaling
Future wireless networks are expected to be ultra-dense and heterogeneous not just in terms of the number and type of base stations but also in terms of the number of users and the application types they access. Such a network architecture will require mobility management mechanisms that adapt rapidly to these highly dynamic network characteristics. In particular, the optimality of the handover signaling within these future network architectures will be extremely critical given their density and heterogeneity. In this paper, the optimality is relevant for both the total amount of signaling created and the total delay per handover process. In this paper, we first present a novel and optimized message mapping and signaling mechanism for the handover preparation and failure phases. We also develop a novel handover failure aware preparation signaling methodology, which accounts for the possibility of a handover failure and grants additional enhancements to the handover preparation and failure signaling phases. Through the analytical framework provided in this paper, we conduct studies to quantify the performance gains promised by the proposed mechanisms. These studies cover myriad handover scenarios as identified by 3GPP and use the statistics from cellular network operators and vendors. We then develop the idea and analytical framework for network wide analysis, in which the network wide processing cost and network occupation time for various handover failure rates are computed. Finally, we propose an evolutionary network architecture that facilitates the proposed signaling mechanism as well as assists operators in maintaining a manageable capital expenditure. It combines the current day and 3GPP proposed 5G network architecture with the software-defined networking approach. As a result, we argue that the proposed mechanisms are viable and outperform the legacy handover signaling mechanisms in terms of latency incurred, total network occupation time, number of messages generated, and total bytes transferred.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

In this document, through ISC Telecom simulation software describes the necessary analysis to evaluate the handover parameters, using a microcell coverage for frequencies in the range of millimeter waves. The selected band was n260, starting from 37 GHz. For the study case the sector chose was Las Orquideas y San Miguel of AmagasÃ; covering some housing developments that has the characteristics of Quito´s urban length. It was considering some factors that influence the coverage like: propagation model, cell diameter, type of signal, bandwidth, power, antenna gain. In order to choose the best handover parameters RSSI, RSRP, RSRQ and SINR the lineal route is evaluated through of joint cells that allow to size the intensity levels of optimum signals for a suitable handover

In this academic article, by means of
the ICS Telecom simulation software, the handover
parameters are experienced and estimated on the same
route at different speeds, all this procedure is carried out
in the n260 band, the same one used in 5G or millimeter

communications given in 5G networks in the 28GHz
range. The chosen study area is OrquÃdeas and San
Miguel de AmagasÃ; analyzing buildings, complexes and
neighborhoods that are characteristic of the urban sector
of the city of Quito. It is important to know that there are
influencing factors when implementing coverage, such
as: (a) The propagation model; (b) Diameter of the cell;
(c) Type of signal; (d) Antenna bandwidth, power and
gain. From the analysis of the signal-to-noise ratio in the
same route and at different speeds between joint cells, we
proceed to measure the power or intensity of the optimal

In recent years, the world has witnessed an explosion of mobile communications due to the wide penetration of handheld mobile devices generating an unprecedented amount of data traffic. As the number of mobile users grows rapidly, 5G networks are evolving to match this growth and to ensure emerging services and applications according to the specific demands of mobile users. In such a challenging environment, effective mobility management mechanisms are needed and they are expected to serve mobile users with distinct mobility profiles The mobility management mechanisms provide seamless mobility support at the network level by maintaining ongoing communications while the users roam among different access networks. However, this mobility management protocols introduce signaling overhead for supporting seamless session continuity of the mobile nodes by using control messages between mobility agents. This aspect, together with the cell densification produced by 5G, will increase total signaling traffic, degrading the QoS and QoE requirements. Thus, the operators are seeking innovative solutions to the optimization of mobility management procedures within the 5G evolved architecture. In this Thesis, we propose three mechanisms in order to improve the performance of mobility management protocols. First, we propose a novel mechanism, called TE-DMM, to improve the performance of the control plane by reducing the signaling traffic. Then, taking advantage of the benefits that SDN brings, we present a novel mobility management solution to improve the performance of the data plane. Finally, we propose a novel link-network assignment strategy to enhance the overall performance of the mobility protocols
