Beyond Speculative Robot Ethics
In this article we develop a dialogue model for robot technology experts and designated users to discuss visions on the future of robotics in long-term care. Our vision assessment study aims for more distinguished and more informed visions on future robots. Surprisingly, our experiment also lead to some promising co-designed robot concepts in which jointly articulated moral guidelines are embedded. With our model we think to have designed an interesting response on a recent call for a less speculative ethics of technology by encouraging discussions about the quality of positive and negative visions on the future of robotics.

Bovine and human becomings in histories of dairy technologies: robotic milking systems and remaking animal and human subjectivity
This paper positions the recent emergence of robotic or automatic milking systems (AMS) in relation to discourses surrounding the longer history of milking technologies in the UK and elsewhere. The mechanisation of milking has been associated with sets of hopes and anxieties which permeated the transition from hand to increasingly automated forms of milking. This transition has affected the relationships between humans and cows on dairy farms, producing different modes of cow and human agency and subjectivity. In this paper, drawing on empirical evidence from a research project exploring AMS use in contemporary farms, we examine how ongoing debates about the benefits (or otherwise) of AMS relate to longer-term discursive currents surrounding the historical emergence of milking technologies and their implications for efficient farming and the human and bovine experience of milk production. We illustrate how technological change is in part based on understandings of people and cows, at the same time as bovine and human agency and subjectivity are entrained and reconfigured in relation to emerging milking technologies, so that what it is to be a cow or human becomes different as technologies change. Theory of Robot Communication: II. Befriending a Robot over Time
In building on theories of Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC), Human-Robot
Interaction, and Media Psychology (i.e. Theory of Affective Bonding), the
current paper proposes an explanation of how over time, people experience the
mediated or simulated aspects of the interaction with a social robot. In two
simultaneously running loops, a more reflective process is balanced with a more
affective process. If human interference is detected behind the machine,
Robot-Mediated Communication commences, which basically follows CMC
assumptions; if human interference remains undetected, Human-Robot
Communication comes into play, holding the robot for an autonomous social
actor. The more emotionally aroused a robot user is, the more likely they
develop an affective relationship with what actually is a machine. The main
contribution of this paper is an integration of Computer-Mediated
Communication, Human-Robot Communication, and Media Psychology, outlining a
full-blown theory of robot communication connected to friendship formation,
accounting for communicative features, modes of processing, as well as

The Philosophical Case for Robot Friendship
Friendship is an important part of the good life. While many roboticists are eager to create friend-like robots, many philosophers and ethicists are concerned. They argue that robots cannot really be our friends. Robots can only fake the emotional and behavioural cues we associate with friendship. Consequently, we should resist the drive to create robot friends. In this article, I argue that the philosophical critics are wrong. Using the classic virtue-ideal of friendship, I argue that robots can plausibly be considered our virtue friends - that to do so is philosophically reasonable. Furthermore, I argue that even if you do not think that robots can be our virtue friends, they can fulfil other important friendship roles, and can complement and enhance the virtue friendships between human beings
