Embedding agents in business applications using enterprise integration patterns
This paper addresses the issue of integrating agents with a variety of
external resources and services, as found in enterprise computing environments.
We propose an approach for interfacing agents and existing message routing and
mediation engines based on the endpoint concept from the enterprise integration
patterns of Hohpe and Woolf. A design for agent endpoints is presented, and an
architecture for connecting the Jason agent platform to the Apache Camel
enterprise integration framework using this type of endpoint is described. The
approach is illustrated by means of a business process use case, and a number
of Camel routes are presented. These demonstrate the benefits of interfacing
agents to external services via a specialised message routing tool that
supports enterprise integration patterns
Towards a flexible service integration through separation of business rules
Driven by dynamic market demands, enterprises are continuously exploring collaborations with others to add value to their services and seize new market opportunities. Achieving enterprise collaboration is facilitated by Enterprise Application Integration and Business-to-Business approaches that employ architectural paradigms like Service Oriented Architecture and incorporate technological advancements in networking and computing. However, flexibility remains a major challenge related to enterprise collaboration. How can changes in demands and opportunities be reflected in collaboration solutions with minimum time and effort and with maximum reuse of existing applications? This paper proposes an approach towards a more flexible integration of enterprise applications in the context of service mediation. We achieve this by combining goal-based, model-driven and serviceoriented approaches. In particular, we pay special attention to the separation of business rules from the business process of the integration solution. Specifying the requirements as goal models, we separate those parts which are more likely to evolve over time in terms of business rules. These business rules are then made executable by exposing them as Web services and incorporating them into the design of the business process.\ud
Thus, should the business rules change, the business process remains unaffected. Finally, this paper also provides an evaluation of the flexibility of our solution in relation to the current work in business process flexibility research

Hence, the authors propose a conceptual, holistic evaluation framework which encompasses these ideas. It is thus argued that such trends, and their implications regarding enterprise IS integration to engender sustainable competitive advantage, require fundamental re-thinking

The BWS Open Business Enterprise System Architecture
Business process management systems play a central role in supporting the business operations of medium and large organizations. This paper analyses the properties current business enterprise systems and proposes a new application type called Open Business Enterprise Sys-tem. A new open system architecture called Business Workflow System is proposed. This ar-chitecture combines the instruments for flexible data management, business process manage-ment and integration into a flexible system able to manage modern business operations. The architecture was validated by implementing it into the DocuMentor platform used by major companies in Romania and US. These implementations offered the necessary data to create and refine an enterprise integration methodology called DM-CPI.
