Using a Summarized Lecture Material Recommendation System to Enhance Studentsâ Preclass Preparation in a Flipped Classroom
Research has revealed the positive effects of flipped classroom approaches on studentsâ learning engagement and performance compared with conventional lecture-based classrooms. However, because of a lack of out-of-class learning support, many students fail to comprehensively prepare the provided lecture materials before class. One promising solution to this problem is recommendation systems in the educational area, which have been instrumental in helping learners identify useful and relevant lecture materials that satisfy their learning needs. Thus, in this study, we propose a summarized lecture material recommendation system, which is integrated into an e-book reading system as an enhancement of the flipped classroom approach. This system helps students identify pages that contain essential knowledge that must be thoroughly studied before class. The proposed system was constructed on the basis of our previous work. In this study, a quasi-experiment was conducted in a graduate course that implemented the flipped classroom model: experimental group students learned with the proposed system, whereas the control group students had no access to the additional features. The findings of this study suggest that students who learn with the proposed recommendation system significantly outperform those who learn without the system in a flipped classroom in terms of their learning outcomes and engagement in preclass preparation
Large Language Model-based System to Provide Immediate Feedback to Students in Flipped Classroom Preparation Learning
This paper proposes a system that uses large language models to provide
immediate feedback to students in flipped classroom preparation learning. This
study aimed to solve challenges in the flipped classroom model, such as
ensuring that students are emotionally engaged and motivated to learn. Students
often have questions about the content of lecture videos in the preparation of
flipped classrooms, but it is difficult for teachers to answer them
immediately. The proposed system was developed using the ChatGPT API on a
video-watching support system for preparation learning that is being used in
real practice. Answers from ChatGPT often do not align with the context of the
student's question. Therefore, this paper also proposes a method to align the
answer with the context. This paper also proposes a method to collect the
teacher's answers to the students' questions and use them as additional guides
for the students. This paper discusses the design and implementation of the
proposed system.Comment: 6 page
Digital Transformation of Education and Sustainability-Review Based Study
Since 1990, the usage of internet as well as digitization has significantly increased. Digital transformation is the process of using, adoption of digital technology or information technology by an organisation to embed or digitalize products and services. A brief picture of types of learning, educational technology like Artificial intelligence, Metaverse, AR&VR, IoT, how digital transformation enables to meet UN SDG 4 is portrayed in this paper
A review of integrating AI-based chatbots into flipped learning: new possibilities and challenges
This mini review examines the emerging concept of integrating AI-based chatbots into flipped learning and its potential to enhance studentsâ learning experience. We investigate the design and practice of chatbot-supported flipped learning, as well as the benefits and challenges associated with this approach. Despite an extensive database search, only 10 empirical articles were found, indicating that this cutting-edge research topic requires further exploration. The findings of this review suggest that this emerging instructional approach could result in benefits such as increased student interaction with learning content, improved class preparation, and data-driven teaching and learning. However, potential challenges included limited technical functionality, lacking authenticity, and insufficient student motivation. The review offers insights into future research and development to advance the knowledge and practice of integrating AI chatbots into flipped learning
Digital Transformation of Education for Quality Sustainability-Reference Based
Digital transformation (DX) is the adoption of digital technology by an organization to digitize non-digital products, services or operations. The goal for its implementation is to increase value through innovation, invention, customer experience or efficiency. Digital transformation entails considering how products, processes and organizations can be changed through the use of new, digital technologies. Digital transformation can be seen as a socio-technical programme
UNLIMITED I, On the corporate training revolution
The unlimited is a borderless territory where the whole world is inmerse. In this study, it is shown that the unlimited is present in education and, specifically, in the corporate educational arena. Helped by technology and automation, disruptive leaders are challenging the way things are done, the way we think and, in addtion, what we are. After performing a documentation analysis, conclusions are that big problems âas education- need cheap and scaled technology; leadership and organizations must evolve to less human intervention; education and training need a rethought; Eduaction-2-Employment (E2E) is key for unemployment; and that new educational structures, delivery methods, pedagogical approaches and advanced Learning Management Systems (LMS) are observed proposing huge transformations in the corporate educational arena. This is a qualitative investigation with a not experimental and transversal research design
A Survey of Smart Classroom Literature
Recently, there has been a substantial amount of research on smart classrooms, encompassing a number of areas, including Information and Communication Technology, Machine Learning, Sensor Networks, Cloud Computing, and Hardware. Smart classroom research has been quickly implemented to enhance education systems, resulting in higher engagement and empowerment of students, educators, and administrators. Despite decades of using emerging technology to improve teaching practices, critics often point out that methods miss adequate theoretical and technical foundations.
As a result, there have been a number of conflicting reviews on different perspectives of smart classrooms. For a realistic smart classroom approach, a piecemeal implementation is insufficient.
This survey contributes to the current literature by presenting a comprehensive analysis of various disciplines using a standard terminology and taxonomy. This multi-field study reveals new research possibilities and problems that must be tackled in order to integrate interdisciplinary works in a synergic manner. Our analysis shows that smart classroom is a rapidly developing research area that complements a number of emerging technologies. Moreover, this paper also describes the co-occurrence network of technological keywords using VOSviewer for an in-depth analysis
Teaching Tip: Active Learning in the IS Classroom: A Student Crowdpolling Exercise for IS Courses
Active learning pedagogy has many documented benefits, and while several positive examples of its recent use in STEM classes have led to better performance, greater diversity, more equity, and improved retention of underrepresented student populations, more research in IS and IT classrooms is needed. Most active learning exercises are in a traditional in-person format; however, the COVID-19 pandemic has created a demand for more online classes. Here we present an easy-to-adopt, active learning crowdpolling exercise that can be used for all modalities, including online, hybrid, and face-to-face, moreover, can be used throughout the semester or for a portion of it. The exercise creates a small crowdpolling results database that can be used to enhance student data literacy and teach a variety of IS topics such as database, systems analysis and design, and data analytics. An extended example of how it is used in the Introduction to IS course is provided
Impact of Transparency in the Teamwork Development through Cloud Computing
[EN]Active educational methodologies promote students to take an active role in their own
learning, enhance cooperative work, and develop a collective understanding of the subject as a
common learning area. Cloud Computing enables the learning space to be supported while also
revolutionizing it by allowing it to be used as a link between active methodology and studentsâ
learning activities. A Cloud Computing system is used in conjunction with an active methodology
to recognize and manage individual, group, and collective evidence of the studentsâ work in this
research. The key hypothesis shown in this work is that if evidence management is made clear and
evidence is consistently and gradually presented to students, their level of involvement will increase,
and their learning outcomes will improve. The model was implemented in a university subject of a
first academic year using the active Flipped Classroom methodology, and the individual, group and
collective evidence is constantly worked with throughout the implementation of a teamwork method
