    Rapidly IPv6 multimedia management schemes based LTE-A wireless networks

    Ensuring the best quality of smart multimedia services becomes an essential goal for modern enterprises so there is always a need for effective IP mobility smart management schemes in order to fulfill the following two main functions: (I) interconnecting the moving terminals around the extended indoor smart services. In addition, (II) providing session continuity for instant data transfer in real-time and multimedia applications with negligible latency, efficient bandwidth utilization, and improved reliability. In this context, it found out that the Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) over LTE-A network that offers many advanced services for large numbers of users with higher bandwidths, better spectrum efficiency, and lower latency. In GMPLS, there is an elimination of the routing searches and choice of routing protocols on every core LTE-A router also it provides the architecture simplicity and increases the scalability. A comparative assessment of three types of IPv6 mobility management schemes over the LTE-A provided by using various types of multimedia. By using OPNET Simulator 17.5, In accordance with these schemes, it was proven that the IPv6-GMPLS scheme is the best choice for the system's operation, in comparison to the IPv6-MPLS and Mobile IPv6 for all multimedia offerings and on the overall network performance

    Yodel: A Layer 3.5 Name-Based Multicast Network Architecture For The Future Internet

    Multicasting refers to the ability of transmitting data to multiple recipients without data sources needing to provide more than one copy of the data to the network. The network takes responsibility to route and deliver a copy of each data to every intended recipient. Multicasting has the potential to improve the network efficiency and performance (e.g., throughput and latency) through transferring fewer bits in communicating the same data to multiple recipients compared with unicast transmissions, reduce the amount of networking resources needed for communication, lower the network energy footprint, and alleviate the occurrence of congestion in the network. Over the past few decades, providing multicast services has been a real challenge for ISPs, especially to support home users and multi-domain network applications, leading to the emergence of complex application-level solutions. These solutions like Content Delivery and Peer-to-Peer networks take advantage of complex caching, routing, transport, and topology management systems which put heavy strains on the underlying Internet infrastructures to offer multicasting services. In reality, the main motivation behind the design of these systems is rather sharing content than offering efficient multicast services. In this paper, we propound Yodel, a name-based multicast network architecture that can provide multi-domain multicast services for current and future Internet applications. Compared to the wider array of other name-based network architectures with clean-slate infrastructure requirements, Yodel is designed to provide multicast services over the current Internet infrastructure. Hence, Yodel puts forward several design goals that distinguish it from other name-based network architectures with inherent multicast capabilities.     Scalability and Resilience Analysis of Software-Defined Networking

    Software-defined Networking (SDN) ist eine moderne Architektur für Kommunikationsnetze, welche entwickelt wurde, um die Einführung von neuen Diensten und Funktionen in Netzwerke zu erleichtern. Durch eine Trennung der Weiterleitungs- und Kontrollfunktionen sind nur wenige Kontrollelemente mit Software-Updates zu versehen, um Veränderungen am Netz vornehmen zu können. Allerdings wirft die Netzstrukturierung von SDN neue Fragen bezüglich Skalierbarkeit und Ausfallsicherheit auf, welche in dezentralen Netzstrukturen nicht auftreten. In dieser Arbeit befassen wir uns mit Fragestellungen zu Skalierbarkeit und Ausfallsicherheit in Bezug auf Unicast- und Multicast-Verkehr in SDN-basierten Netzen. Wir führen eine Komprimierungstechnik für Routingtabellen ein, welche die Skalierungsproblematik aktueller SDN Weiterleitungsgeräte verbessern soll und ermitteln ihre Effizienz in einer Leistungsbewertung. Außerdem diskutieren wir unterschiedliche Methoden, um die Ausfallsicherheit in SDN zu verbessern. Wir analysieren sie auf öffentlich zugänglichen Netzwerken und benennen Vor- und Nachteile der Ansätze. Abschließend schlagen wir eine skalierbare und ausfallsichere Architektur für Multicast-basiertes SDN vor. Wir untersuchen ihre Effizienz in einer Leistungsbewertung und zeigen ihre Umsetzbarkeit mithilfe eines Prototypen.Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is a novel architecture for communication networks that has been developed to ease the introduction of new network services and functions. It leverages the separation of the data plane and the control plane to allow network services to be deployed solely in software. Although SDN provides great flexibility, the applicability of SDN in communication networks raises several questions with regard to scalability and resilience against network failures. These concerns are not prevalent in current decentralized network architectures. In this thesis, we address scalability and resilience issues with regard to unicast and multicast traffic for SDN-based networks. We propose a new compression method for inter-domain routing tables to address hardware limitations of current SDN switches and analyze its effectiveness. We propose various resilience methods for SDN and identify their key performance indicators in the context of carrier-grade and datacenter networks. We discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these proposals and their appropriate use cases. Finally, we propose a scalable and resilient software-defined multicast architecture. We study the effectiveness of our approach and show its feasibility using a prototype implementation
