Completing and Debugging Ontologies: state of the art and challenges
As semantically-enabled applications require high-quality ontologies,
developing and maintaining ontologies that are as correct and complete as
possible is an important although difficult task in ontology engineering. A key
step is ontology debugging and completion. In general, there are two steps:
detecting defects and repairing defects. In this paper we discuss the state of
the art regarding the repairing step. We do this by formalizing the repairing
step as an abduction problem and situating the state of the art with respect to
this framework. We show that there are still many open research problems and
show opportunities for further work and advancing the field.Comment: 56 page
CadiBack: Extracting Backbones with CaDiCaL
The backbone of a satisfiable formula is the set of literals that are true in all its satisfying assignments. Backbone computation can improve a wide range of SAT-based applications, such as verification, fault localization and product configuration. In this tool paper, we introduce a new backbone extraction tool called CadiBack. It takes advantage of unique features available in our state-of-the-art SAT solver CaDiCaL including transparent inprocessing and single clause assumptions, which have not been evaluated in this context before. In addition, CaDiCaL is enhanced with an improved algorithm to support model rotation by utilizing watched literal data structures. In our comprehensive experiments with a large number of benchmarks, CadiBack solves 60% more instances than the state-of-the-art backbone extraction tool MiniBones. Our tool is thoroughly tested with fuzzing, internal correctness checking and cross-checking on a large benchmark set. It is publicly available as open source, well documented and easy to extend
Forecasting Financial Volatility Using Nested Monte Carlo Expression Discovery
We are interested in discovering expressions for financial prediction using Nested Monte Carlo Search and Genetic Programming. Both methods are applied to learn from financial time series to generate non linear functions for market volatility prediction. The input data, that is a series of daily prices of European S&P500 index, is filtered and sampled in order to improve the training process. Using some assessment metrics, the best generated models given by both approaches for each training sub sample, are evaluated and compared. Results show that Nested Monte Carlo is able to generate better forecasting models than Genetic Programming for the majority of learning samples
Automatic Construction of Parallel Portfolios via Explicit Instance Grouping
Simultaneously utilizing several complementary solvers is a simple yet
effective strategy for solving computationally hard problems. However, manually
building such solver portfolios typically requires considerable domain
knowledge and plenty of human effort. As an alternative, automatic construction
of parallel portfolios (ACPP) aims at automatically building effective parallel
portfolios based on a given problem instance set and a given rich design space.
One promising way to solve the ACPP problem is to explicitly group the
instances into different subsets and promote a component solver to handle each
of them. This paper investigates solving ACPP from this perspective, and
especially studies how to obtain a good instance grouping. The experimental
results showed that the parallel portfolios constructed by the proposed method
could achieve consistently superior performances to the ones constructed by the
state-of-the-art ACPP methods, and could even rival sophisticated hand-designed
parallel solvers
From fuzzy to annotated semantic web languages
The aim of this chapter is to present a detailed, selfcontained and comprehensive account of the state of the art in representing and reasoning with fuzzy knowledge in Semantic Web Languages such as triple languages RDF/RDFS, conceptual languages of the OWL 2 family and rule languages. We further show how one may generalise them to so-called annotation domains, that cover also e.g. temporal and provenance extensions
