A Concurrency Control Method Based on Commitment Ordering in Mobile Databases

Disconnection of mobile clients from server, in an unclear time and for an unknown duration, due to mobility of mobile clients, is the most important challenges for concurrency control in mobile database with client-server model. Applying pessimistic common classic methods of concurrency control (like 2pl) in mobile database leads to long duration blocking and increasing waiting time of transactions. Because of high rate of aborting transactions, optimistic methods aren`t appropriate in mobile database. In this article, OPCOT concurrency control algorithm is introduced based on optimistic concurrency control method. Reducing communications between mobile client and server, decreasing blocking rate and deadlock of transactions, and increasing concurrency degree are the most important motivation of using optimistic method as the basis method of OPCOT algorithm. To reduce abortion rate of transactions, in execution time of transactions` operators a timestamp is assigned to them. In other to checking commitment ordering property of scheduler, the assigned timestamp is used in server on time of commitment. In this article, serializability of OPCOT algorithm scheduler has been proved by using serializability graph. Results of evaluating simulation show that OPCOT algorithm decreases abortion rate and waiting time of transactions in compare to 2pl and optimistic algorithms.Comment: 15 pages, 13 figures, Journal: International Journal of Database Management Systems (IJDMS

E-commerce has been said to bring value to businesses by improving business efficiency and effectiveness and thus providing business with a competitive advantage through the potential benefits that it offers (Cloete, Courtney & Fintz, 2002). However, despite the potential benefits that e-commerce can offer, the adoption of B2C e-commerce in South African construction SMMEs is low and this is due to the challenges associated with e-commerce (Vaithanathan, 2010; Uzoka, Shemi & Seleka, 2007; Love & Irani, 2004; Anumba & Ruikar, 2002). These e-commerce challenges include: high implementation costs, lack or poor infrastructure, inadequate resources, low use of e-commerce by suppliers and consumers, lack of access to e-commerce, computer illiteracy, deficiency in understanding the potential benefits of e-commerce and security concerns (Vaithanathan, 2010; Uzoka, Shemi, & Seleka, 2007; Mensah, Bahta, & Mhlanga, 2005; Cloete, Courtney, & Fintz, 2002). Therefore, due to these e-commerce challenges, construction SMMEs do not exploit the business advantages that e-commerce offers. In order to assist South African construction SMMEs in their efforts to improve their business effectiveness and efficiency through commercial technologies

Consumer Skepticism as it Relates to E Commerce Data Breaches and Company Efforts to Enhance Trust

    Get PDF
This study examines how skepticism moderates internet users\u27 trust revisions from the announcement of a data breach and subsequent restorative actions to compensate users impacted by the breach. Skepticism has been tied to belief revisions in several different contexts. Data analysis supports the hypothesis that users with high skepticism are related to larger drops in trust in reaction to a data breach, especially when there is a delay in announcing the data breach. This study also contributes to the existing literature on e-commerce trust by supporting findings of other research that examines whether a company\u27s forthrightness in announcing a data breach impacts trust reduction after a data breach and subsequent trust increases after efforts to repair trust

Timing of Data Breach Announcement and E-Commerce Trust

The primary contribution of this study is the examination of whether the timeliness in announcing the discovery of a data breach impacts the reduction in consumer trust in an e-commerce company, as well as later trust rebuilding efforts taken by the company. This study examines the effect of both trust reducing events (announced data breaches) and trust enhancing events (provision of data protection) on the level of perceived trust. The timeliness of the announcement of the breach by an e-commerce company was manipulated between two randomly assigned groups of subjects by changing the announcement of the breach between immediately upon its discovery by the company’s management and an announcement made two-months after the breach was discovered. The results suggest that companies that delay the announcement of a data breach are likely to suffer a larger drop in consumer trust than those companies that immediately disclose the data breach

The rapid development of mobile-based information technology, can change an existing business process. Such as loss of distributors in a single chain of business processes. Mobile Commerce industry is getting a good condition to grow. With the decrease in Mobile communication costs, more and more people are using mobile computing devices that can connect to the Internet. There are several m-Commerce applications in Indonesia, namely Lazada, Tokopedia, Buka Lapak, Shoppee and etc. The existence of these applications in Indonesia traders switch to online stores. This study takes three examples of m-Commerce applications in Indonesia with the top three criteria in terms of the best reviews and the highest number of reviews. The results of the sampling application is Lazada, Tokopedia and Buka Lapak. The process of collecting data taken will be analyzed to know about the level of consumer confidence in an m-Commerce application. This is evidenced by a collection of examples of online stores that exist in m-Commerce applications that inform ratings, discount information and existing features. The results obtained from this research is, consumer confidence can be seen from the review feedback that exist in each - each m-Commerce. Many discounts and low prices have no effect on consumer buying interest in the online store. The researcher's suggestion is to reward the most traded buyers with points that can be redeemed for certain goods, discounted goods or subsidized postage

Abstract: This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the effects of electronic devices and social media in the prospects of Australian higher education, teaching and learning. The purpose of this research is to discover teaching and learning when electronic devices and social media are implemented and integrated in Australian educaN2o3e4liaztion. This paper mainly has used secondary research data and methods to provide a broad investigation of teaching and learning with electronic devices and the roles social media play. The research is subject to academic journal articles, project reports, media articles, corporation based documents and other appropriate information. The study found that electronic devices and social media present both opportunities and challenges to higher education. In addition, they offer advantages for student learning and frustrations from learning with electronic devices. One of the most important advantages is the ability to access information quickly and conveniently such as accessing course contents such a discussion boards, course readings, and video clips they need to watch for class on their mobile devices. In addition, they use their devices to upload and post content to course sites. Overall, the students found using mobile devices very convenient. Also constant connectivity among the devices helps the students to communicate with fellow classmates and the teachers. Social media such as Face book, Twitter have allowed students to share their thoughts immediately with their classmates within the course of their everyday lives. Finally the review found that though Australian students have considered electronic devices helpful, frustrations from learning with the devices are obvious which include anti-technology instructors in other classes, e-device challenges, and devices as a distraction. Keywords: Electronic Devices; Social Media; Higher Education; Teaching & Learning; Australia.
