    A Global Perspective of Privacy Protection Practices

    The global economy of today, boosted by propagation of e-commerce, has elevated the privacy and security issues to a worldwide platform. E-commerce growth is strongest in the US and the European Union. Recently India and China have also become significant players in the global commercial setting. This research is exploratory in nature and attempts to examine privacy protection practices in the United States, Europe, India and China. The results indicate that information privacy protection practices are prevalent in the USA. On the other side of the spectrum is China with a completely different view of personal privacy reflecting the nations’ treatment of information privacy

    Security Issues in Mobile Payment from the Customer Viewpoint

    The perception of mobile payment procedures’ security by the customer is one major factor for the market breakthrough of the according systems. In this paper we examine security issues in mobile payment from the viewpoint of customers. Based on theoretical research we analyze empirical data from the MP2 mobile payment study with 8295 respondents in order to develop a set of dimensions, categories and aspects. The results do have a scientific as well as a practical impact: They provide a basis for the selection of appropriate indicators for further empirical studies. Furthermore they can serve as a guideline for mobile payment service providers in order to prevent security concerns through appropriate design and communication of payment procedures and to convince customers of the security of their mobile procedures by meeting concerns in informative advertising.

    A Comparison of Mobile Payment Procedures in Finnish and Chinese Markets

    Researchers are particularly interested in factors that affect the adoption, innovations and diffusion of mobile payment, which is a typical and wide application of ICTS (Information Communication Technology Services) in developed and developing countries. Though mobile payment is an exciting domain and rapidly evolved in recent years, the existence of standardized, interconnected and widely-accepted mobile payment procedures is crucial for successful diffusion of mobile payment and has mobile commerce globally, even in one country or region. In this paper we make a comparison of mobile payment procedures in the Finnish and the Chinese market. Current payment procedures can be categorized by using strategic, participatory and operational criteria, according to the morphological method. Based on these, we analyze the current contraints on the mobile payment procedures in the Finnish-Chinese market in order to make it clear whether we can develop a generally accepted mobile payment integrative solution or merge different procedures into an interoperability system via interconnected participants with high-level protocols and regulation when necessary, because different market participants may have separate benefits

    A Top Quadrant report situates the Semantic Web within the current Innovation Wave of “Distributed Intelligence”. This is one of the main innovation waves of the last centuries including textile, railway, auto, computer, distributed intelligence (1997-2061) and nanotechnology (2007-2081). The Distributed Intelligence wave started in the late nineties and is expected to peak between 2010 and 2020. The report estimates first return on investments in 2006-7, growing to a market of $40-60 billion in 2010. Funds are coming primary from governments, venture capitalists and industry commercialization. Over the next few years, this is expected to change in favour of industry commercialization

    Abstract. Mobile agents traverse the Internet, often on behalf of their users. Intelligent search agents access dynamic information in heterogeneous environments. The legal implications of the use of agents in such situations are not fully understood. In this paper a scenario in which a mobile agent searches a multimedia database on behalf of its user, is used to illustrate the legal and technical issues involved. Requirements related to identity management, integrity, traceability and availability are identified and discussed in the context of existing technology.

    Towards the new generation of web knowledge

    Purpose - As the web evolves its purpose and nature of its use are changing. The purpose of the paper is to investigate whether the web can provide for the competing stakeholders, who are similarly evolving and who increasingly see it as a significant part of their business. Design/methodology/approach - The paper adopts an exploratory and reviewing approach to the emerging trends and patterns emanating from the web's changing use and explores the underpinning technologies and tools that facilitate this use and access. It examines the future and potential of web-based knowledge management (KM) and reviews the emerging web trends, tools, and enabling technologies that will provide the infrastructure of the next generation web. Findings - The research carried out provides an independent framework for the capturing, accessing and distributing of web knowledge. This framework retains the semantic mark-up, a feature that we deem indispensable for the future of KM, employing web ontologies to structure organisational knowledge and semantic text processing for the extraction of knowledge from web sites. Practical implications - As a result it was possible to identify the implications of integrating the two aspects of web-based KM, namely the business-organisational-users' perspective and that of the enabling web technologies. Originality/value - The proposed framework accommodates the collaborative tools and services offered by Web 2.0, acknowledging the fact that knowledge-based systems are shared, dynamic, evolving resources, whose underlying knowledge model requires careful management due to its constant changing

    Formal Specification, Implementation, and Evaluation of the AdoBPRIM Approach

    Modeling is one of the fundamental aspects of Risk-aware Business Process Management. The conceptualization of new modeling approaches needs to integrate all abstraction layers of risk and business process concepts and requires a highly specialized knowledge in conceptual modeling foundations and formal specification of meta-models. This paper introduces a risk-aware business process modeling approach based on the BPRIM method. In order to comprehensively and unambiguously specify the proposed approach, we revert to the FDMM formalism. Furthermore, a corresponding software prototype called AdoBPRIM has been implemented using the ADOxx meta-modeling platform to assess the technical feasibility of the approach. The usability of the tool has been empirically evaluated and a healthcare process-based example is presented as a proof-of-concept. We show that the AdoBPRIM approach enables Risk-aware Business Process Management with an excellent usability. In summary, this paper constitutes a best-practice for formally specifying, technically implementing, and empirically evaluating modeling method conceptualizations
