An Automated System for Stock Market Trading Based on Logical Clustering

    Get PDF
In this paper a novel clustering-based system for automated stock market trading is introduced. It relies on interpolative Boolean algebra as underlying mathematical framework used to construct logical clustering method which is the central component of the system. The system uses fundamental analysis ratios, more precisely market valuation ratios, as clustering variables to differentiate between undervaluated and overvaluated stocks. To structure investment portfolio, the proposed system uses special weighting formulas which automatically diversify investment funds. Finally, a simple trading simulation engine is developed to test our system on real market data. The proposed system was tested on Belgrade Stock Exchange historical data and was able to achieve a high rate of return and to outperform the BelexLine market index as a benchmark variable. The paper has also provided in-depth analysis of the system’s investment decision making process which reveals some exciting insights

Philosophy of Blockchain Technology - Ontologies

About the necessity and usefulness of developing a philosophy specific to the blockchain technology, emphasizing on the ontological aspects. After an Introduction that highlights the main philosophical directions for this emerging technology, in Blockchain Technology I explain the way the blockchain works, discussing ontological development directions of this technology in Designing and Modeling. The next section is dedicated to the main application of blockchain technology, Bitcoin, with the social implications of this cryptocurrency. There follows a section of Philosophy in which I identify the blockchain technology with the concept of heterotopia developed by Michel Foucault and I interpret it in the light of the notational technology developed by Nelson Goodman as a notational system. In the Ontology section, I present two developmental paths that I consider important: Narrative Ontology, based on the idea of order and structure of history transmitted through Paul Ricoeur's narrative history, and the Enterprise Ontology system based on concepts and models of an enterprise, specific to the semantic web, and which I consider to be the most well developed and which will probably become the formal ontological system, at least in terms of the economic and legal aspects of blockchain technology. In Conclusions I am talking about the future directions of developing the blockchain technology philosophy in general as an explanatory and robust theory from a phenomenologically consistent point of view, which allows testability and ontologies in particular, arguing for the need of a global adoption of an ontological system for develop cross-cutting solutions and to make this technology profitable. Size exclusion chromatography for analyses of fibroin in silk : optimization of sampling and separation conditions

A direct goal of this paper was to improve the methods of sample preparation and separation for analyses of fibroin polypeptide with the use of size exclusion chromatography (SEC). The motivation for the study arises from our interest in natural polymers included in historic textile and paper artifacts, and is a logical response to the urgent need for developing rationale-based methods for materials conservation. The first step is to develop a reli- able analytical tool which would give insight into fibroin structure and its changes caused by both natural and arti- ficial ageing. To investigate the influence of preparation conditions, two sets of artificially aged samples were pre- pared (with and without NaCl in sample solution) and measured by the means of SEC with multi angle laser light scattering detector. It was shown that dialysis of fibroin dissolved in LiBr solution allows removal of the salt which destroys stacks chromatographic columns and prevents reproducible analyses. Salt rich (NaCl) water solutions of fibroin improved the quality of chromatograms

Cerebrospinal fluid Aβ42/40 corresponds better than Aβ42 to amyloid PET in Alzheimer’s disease

Background: Decreased concentrations of amyloid-β 1-42 (Aβ(42)) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and increased retention of Aβ tracers in the brain on positron emission tomography (PET) are considered the earliest biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, a proportion of cases show discrepancies between the results of the two biomarker modalities which may reflect inter-individual differences in Aβ metabolism. The CSF Aβ(42/40) ratio seems to be a more accurate biomarker of clinical AD than CSF Aβ(42) alone. Objective: We tested whether CSF Aβ(42) alone or the Aβ(42/40) ratio corresponds better with amyloid PET status and analyzed the distribution of cases with discordant CSF-PET results. Methods: CSF obtained from a mixed cohort (n = 200) of cognitively normal and abnormal research participants who had undergone amyloid PET within 12 months (n = 150 PET-negative, n = 50 PET-positive according to a previously published cut-off) was assayed for Aβ(42) and Aβ(40) using two recently developed immunoassays. Optimal CSF cut-offs for amyloid positivity were calculated, and concordance was tested by comparison of the areas under receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves (AUC) and McNemar’s test for paired proportions. Results: CSF Aβ(42/40) corresponded better than Aβ(42) with PET results, with a larger proportion of concordant cases (89.4% versus 74.9%, respectively, p < 0.0001) and a larger AUC (0.936 versus 0.814, respectively, p < 0.0001) associated with the ratio. For both CSF biomarkers, the percentage of CSF-abnormal/PET-normal cases was larger than that of CSF-normal/PET-abnormal cases. Conclusion: The CSF Aβ(42/40) ratio is superior to Aβ(42) alone as a marker of amyloid-positivity by PET. We hypothesize that this increase in performance reflects the ratio compensating for general between-individual variations in CSF total Aβ

An Application of Financial Ratio Analysis on Concordat Firms: A Model Suggestion on Construction Firms Listed in Borsa Istanbul

The main purpose of this study is to apply a detailed financial ratio analysis on the firms that have declared concordat, to determine which kind of financial ratios predict the more successful preliminary estimations and to form a model according to the findings obtained and to apply this model to the firms operating in Borsa Istanbul construction sector. For this purpose, the last 5 years' financial statements of the two companies whose shares are traded on Borsa Istanbul and declared concordat are analyzed by the ratio analysis method. As a result of the analysis, it was found out that the ratios that gave the strongest concordat signal are the liquidity and financial structure ratios. According to the results of the analysis, a model that can be used for the general of the companies is proposed by giving weight to each rate type. In order to test these findings, the model is applied to the financial statements of three companies operating in Borsa Istanbul construction sector and financial ratio scores of firms are calculated over the years. According to the results of the analysis, it is found that the financial situation of the construction firms is much better than the ones of the firms that has declared concordat. However, when the construction firms are compared with each other, it can be stated that YYAPI is lagging behind others in terms of financial performance

On the parameterisation of the urban atmospheric sublayer in meteorological models

International audienceThe increased resolution of numerical weather prediction models allows nowadays addressing more specifically urban meteorology and air pollution processes and forecasts. This has triggered new interest in modelling and describing experimentally the specific features and processes of urban areas. Recent developments and results performed within the EU-funded project FUMAPEX on integrated systems for forecasting urban meteorology and air pollution are reported here. Issues of optimum resolution, parameterising urban roughness and surface exchange fluxes and the role of the urban soil layers are addressed with advanced meso- or sub-meso meteorological models. Recommendations, especially with respect to advanced urban air quality forecasting and information systems, are given together with an assessment of the needed further research and data
