This paper presents an approach combining concepts of virtual storytelling with cooperative processes. We will describe why storytelling is relevant in cooperation support applications. We will outline how storytelling concepts provide a new quality for groupware applications. Different prototypes illustrate a combination of a groupware application with various storytelling components in a Theatre of Work

Generating Narrative Spaces from Events History

For a successful distributed teamwork it is vital to provide team-members with awareness on collaborative activities. One way of achieving this is through applying a narrative based approach to construct the events that have taken place on documents and folders in a project workspace, as various members make changes to its content. The research presented in this paper investigates the possibility of exploring the history of activities performed by team members. Past events are aggregated in the form of a three dimensional environment time tunnel, providing the team-members with a generative tool to visualize the project?s events history in various configurations, in order to reveal the usually hidden relationships between separate pieces of events. Furthermore we provide a tool for managing and inspecting the folder?s contents: the DocuDrama Timetunnel. Here we present preliminary findings showing how the visualisation of a sequence of connected actions and happenings using a temporal and spatial narrative based approach may lead to a better understanding of the project-related events history

    El docudrama contemporáneo: rasgos configuradores

The docudrama has become a narrative and genre model of increasing importance in contemporary fiction and with a growing impact in Spain, above all in its televised form. However, in our country, academic research on the docudrama is still relatively limited in comparison with the attention which it has received in the English-speaking world. The paper we present here offers an initial approach to the definition of the docudrama, based on two different types of analysis. In the first part, we consider contextual analysis, which analyzes the basic features of the principal traditions —the British and the North American— which have historically shaped these products. In the second, we analyze elements of a textual nature, based on their dual fictional and documentary aspects

/// The docudrama has become a narrative and genre model of increasing importance in contemporary fiction and with a growing impact in Spain, above all in its televised form. SELLING TRUE STORIES: A CULTURAL ANALYSIS OF MANUFACTURED REALISM IN THE DOCUDRAMA CRIME FILM

This paper examines the cultural function of docudrama crime films. The docudrama is a hybrid of the conventional Hollywood fiction film and the documentary. Blurring fact and fiction, these films manufacture an illusion of realism around the framework of the standard feature film using visual and narrative appeals to real life and real events. By asserting that they are based on a true story, these films are able to shape and enhance a desired reading of the text in order to convey a particular social message to audiences. To understand the initial development of the docudrama crime form and how it changes to reflect shifts in culture, I analyize the following films: Boomerang and Call Northside 777, justice docudramas from the 1940s, and The Captive City and The Phenix City Story, syndicate fiims from the 1950s
