    The Road Ahead for Networking: A Survey on ICN-IP Coexistence Solutions

    In recent years, the current Internet has experienced an unexpected paradigm shift in the usage model, which has pushed researchers towards the design of the Information-Centric Networking (ICN) paradigm as a possible replacement of the existing architecture. Even though both Academia and Industry have investigated the feasibility and effectiveness of ICN, achieving the complete replacement of the Internet Protocol (IP) is a challenging task. Some research groups have already addressed the coexistence by designing their own architectures, but none of those is the final solution to move towards the future Internet considering the unaltered state of the networking. To design such architecture, the research community needs now a comprehensive overview of the existing solutions that have so far addressed the coexistence. The purpose of this paper is to reach this goal by providing the first comprehensive survey and classification of the coexistence architectures according to their features (i.e., deployment approach, deployment scenarios, addressed coexistence requirements and architecture or technology used) and evaluation parameters (i.e., challenges emerging during the deployment and the runtime behaviour of an architecture). We believe that this paper will finally fill the gap required for moving towards the design of the final coexistence architecture.Comment: 23 pages, 16 figures, 3 table

    Digital Motion Imagery, Interoperability Challenges for Space Operations

    With advances in available bandwidth from spacecraft and between terrestrial control centers, digital motion imagery and video is becoming more practical as a data gathering tool for science and engineering, as well as for sharing missions with the public. The digital motion imagery and video industry has done a good job of creating standards for compression, distribution, and physical interfaces. Compressed data streams can easily be transmitted or distributed over radio frequency, internet protocol, and other data networks. All of these standards, however, can make sharing video between spacecraft and terrestrial control centers a frustrating and complicated task when different standards and protocols are used by different agencies. This paper will explore the challenges presented by the abundance of motion imagery and video standards, interfaces and protocols with suggestions for common formats that could simplify interoperability between spacecraft and ground support systems. Real-world examples from the International Space Station will be examined. The paper will also discuss recent trends in the development of new video compression algorithms, as well likely expanded use of Delay (or Disruption) Tolerant Networking nodes

    Multicolor Licklider Transmission Protocol: An LTP Version for Future Interplanetary Links

    The Licklider Transport Protocol (LTP) is the "convergence layer" of choice in Interplanetary networks based on Delay-/Disruption-Tolerant architecture. It was designed for long-delay scheduled-intermittent links, offering either a reliable or an unreliable service, with "red" and "green" parts, respectively. The aim of this article is to present multicolor LTP, an LTP version consisting in a series of enhancements of which the most significant are the use of monochrome sessions, the introduction of an additional orange color offering a "notified" service, and the definition of default link colors. After a thorough examination of basic LTP mechanisms for all color variants, this article discusses two scenarios where orange seems particularly appealing: video streaming and optical interplanetary links. Numerical results offer further insight into the complex LTP mechanisms and also highlight the difference between LTP retransmissions and bundle protocol retransmissions, the latter benefitting from routing reprocessing. Multicolor LTP has already been implemented as an interplanetary overlay network (ION) plug-in and its enhancements have been proposed to Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems Space Internetworking Services Delay-/Disruption-Tolerant Networking working group for a possible inclusion in the next version of LTP specifications (LTPv2)

    Due to enhancement in technology the use of mobile devices increases with time. Now mobile devices (mobiles, PDA, Laptops etc.) became an essential part of mankind’s life. With the ease of Internet the popularity of Social Networking Services (SNS) among people increases. With the sharp drops in the prices, the working of mobile devices including smart phones and laptops is rising steadily. So due to this, mobile devices are now used as a provider of computing resources and services instead of requester. For this concept of Cloud Computing (CC) is merged with the mobile computing and SNS which is known as MSCC. MSCC is technology of future and it enables users/consumers to access the services in a fast and efficient manner. MSCC is the integration of three different technologies 1) Mobile Computing 2) SNS 3) Cloud Computing. Here mobile devices are (those have moments) using SNS (Both as a provider or requester) in Cloud Computing (CC) environment. In such environment, a user through mobile devices canparticipate in a social network through relationships which are based on trust. Units of the identical or alike social network can share services or data of cloud with other users of that social network without any authentication by using their mobile device as they be members of the identical social network. Various techniques are revised and improved to achieve good performance in a cloud computing network environment. In this work, there is a detailed survey of existing social cloud and mobile cloud techniques and their application areas. The comparative survey tables can be used as a guideline to select a technique suitable for different applications at hand. This survey paper reports the results of a survey of Mobile Social Cloud Computing (MSCC) regarding the importance of security of MSCC. Here we compare the works of different researcher in the field of MSCC on the basis of some essential features like security algorithm used, Qos and Fault tolerant strategy used, ease of proposed algorithm, space complexity etc. Considering all the limitations of the existing social cloud and mobile cloud techniques, an adaptive MSCC framework of Fault tolerance for future research is proposed

    TANGO: Performance and Fault Management in Cellular Networks through Cooperation between Devices and Edge Computing Nodes

    Cellular networks have become an essential part of our lives. With increasing demands on its available bandwidth, we are seeing failures and performance degradations for data and voice traffic on the rise. In this paper, we propose the view that fog computing, integrated in the edge components of cellular networks, can partially alleviate this situation. In our vision, some data gathering and data analytics capability will be developed at the edge of the cellular network and client devices and the network using this edge capability will coordinate to reduce failures and performance degradations. We also envisage proactive management of disruptions including prediction of impending events of interest (such as, congestion or call drop) and deployment of appropriate mitigation actions. We show that a simple streaming media pre-caching service built using such device-fog cooperation significantly expands the number of streaming video users that can be supported in a nominal cellular network of today

    Cellular network data traffic can be offload onto opportunistic networks. This paper proposes a Distance-based Opportunistic Publish/Subscribe (DOPS) content dissemination model, which is composed of three layers: application layer, decision-making layer and network layer. When a user wants new content, he/she subscribes on a subscribing server. Users having the contents decide whether to deliver the contents to the subscriber based on the distance information. If in the meantime a content owner has traveled further in the immediate past time than the distance between the owner and the subscriber, the content owner will send the content to the subscriber through opportunistic routing. Simulations provide an evaluation of the data traffic offloading efficiency of DOPS
