    H∞Model Approximation for Discrete-time Markovian Jump Systems with Mode-dependent Time Delays

    This paper considers the problem of computing an approximation system for a discrete-time Markovian jump system with mode-dependent time delays such that the H∞norm of the error system is less than a prescribed scalar. It can be shown that the approximation system is constructed by the solutions of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) with inverse constraints. An efficient algorithm is used to obtain the approximation system and an example is employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the model approximation algorithm.published_or_final_versio

    Parity space-based fault detection for Markovian jump systems

    This article deals with problems of parity space-based fault detection for a class of discrete-time linear Markovian jump systems. A new algorithm is firstly introduced to reduce the computation of mode-dependent redundancy relation parameter matrices. Different from the case of linear time invariant systems, the parity space-based residual generator for a Markovian jump system cannot be designed off-line because it depends on the history of system modes in the last finite steps. In order to overcome this difficulty, a finite set of parity matrices is pre-designed applying a unified approach to linear time invariant systems. Then the on-line residual generation can be easily implemented. Moreover, the problem of residual evaluation is also considered which includes the determination of a residual evaluation function and a threshold. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method

    This paper is concerned with the H∞ filtering for a class of networked Markovian jump systems with multiple communication delays. Due to the existence of communication constraints, the measurement signal cannot arrive at the filter completely on time, and the stochastic communication delays are considered in the filter design. Firstly, a set of stochastic variables is introduced to model the occurrence probabilities of the delays. Then based on the stochastic system approach, a sufficient condition is obtained such that the filtering error system is stable in the mean-square sense and with a prescribed H∞ disturbance attenuation level. The optimal filter gain parameters can be determined by solving a convex optimization problem. Finally, a simulation example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed filter design method

    In this paper, the problem of controller design for networked control systems with time-varying sampling rates and time delays is investigated. By using a memory at the feedback loop, a digital robust controller that minimizes an upper bound to the Hinfin performance of the closed loop system is determined. The design conditions are obtained from the Finsler\u27s Lemma combined with the Lyapunov theory and expressed in terms of bilinear matrix inequalities. Extra variables introduced by the Finsler\u27s Lemma are explored in order to provide a better system behavior. The time-varying uncertainties are modelled using polytopic domains. The controller is obtained by the solution of an optimization problem formulated only in terms of the vertices of the polytope, avoiding grids in the parametric space.     In this paper, the problem of robust filter design for networked systems with time-varying sampling rate is investigated. The design conditions are obtained by using the Lyapunov theory and the Finsler\u27s Lemma. A robust filter, that minimizes an upper bound to the Hinfin performance of the estimation error, is obtained as the solution of an optimization problem. A path-dependent Lyapunov function is used in order to obtain less conservative design conditions. Robust filters based on affine parameter-dependent Lyapunov functions can be obtained as a particular case of the proposed method. Numerical examples illustrate the results

    Fault detection and isolation in a networked multi-vehicle unmanned system

    Recent years have witnessed a strong interest and intensive research activities in the area of networks of autonomous unmanned vehicles such as spacecraft formation flight, unmanned aerial vehicles, autonomous underwater vehicles, automated highway systems and multiple mobile robots. The envisaged networked architecture can provide surpassing performance capabilities and enhanced reliability; however, it requires extending the traditional theories of control, estimation and Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI). One of the many challenges for these systems is development of autonomous cooperative control which can maintain the group behavior and mission performance in the presence of undesirable events such as failures in the vehicles. In order to achieve this goal, the team should have the capability to detect and isolate vehicles faults and reconfigure the cooperative control algorithms to compensate for them. This dissertation deals with the design and development of fault detection and isolation algorithms for a network of unmanned vehicles. Addressing this problem is the main step towards the design of autonomous fault tolerant cooperative control of network of unmanned systems. We first formulate the FDI problem by considering ideal communication channels among the vehicles and solve this problem corresponding to three different architectures, namely centralized, decentralized, and semi-decentralized. The necessary and sufficient solvability conditions for each architecture are also derived based on geometric FDI approach. The effects of large environmental disturbances are subsequently taken into account in the design of FDI algorithms and robust hybrid FDI schemes for both linear and nonlinear systems are developed. Our proposed robust FDI algorithms are applied to a network of unmanned vehicles as well as Almost-Lighter-Than-Air-Vehicle (ALTAV). The effects of communication channels on fault detection and isolation performance are then investigated. A packet erasure channel model is considered for incorporating stochastic packet dropout of communication channels. Combining vehicle dynamics and communication links yields a discrete-time Markovian Jump System (MJS) mathematical model representation. This motivates development of a geometric FDI framework for both discrete-time and continuous-time Markovian jump systems. Our proposed FDI algorithm is then applied to a formation flight of satellites and a Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) helicopter problem. Finally, we investigate the problem of fault detection and isolation for time-delay systems as well as linear impulsive systems. The main motivation behind considering these two problems is that our developed geometric framework for Markovian jump systems can readily be applied to other class of systems. Broad classes of time-delay systems, namely, retarded, neutral, distributed and stochastic time-delay systems are investigated in this dissertation and a robust FDI algorithm is developed for each class of these systems. Moreover, it is shown that our proposed FDI algorithms for retarded and stochastic time-delay systems can potentially be applied in an integrated design of FDI/controller for a network of unmanned vehicles. Necessary and sufficient conditions for solvability of the fundamental problem of residual generation for linear impulsive systems are derived to conclude this dissertation
