In this paper, a novel fast sparse DOA estimation algorithm, named the joint smoothed l0-norm algorithm, is proposed for multiple measurement vectors in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar. To eliminate the white or colored Gaussian noises, the new method first obtains a low-complexity high-order cumulants based data matrix. Then, the proposed algorithm designs a joint smoothed function tailored for the MMV case, based on which joint smoothed l0-norm sparse representation framework is constructed. Finally, for the MMV-based joint smoothed function, the corresponding gradient-based sparse signal reconstruction is designed, thus the DOA estimation can be achieved. The proposed method is a fast sparse representation algorithm, which can solve the MMV problem and perform well for both white and colored Gaussian noises. The proposed joint algorithm is about two orders of magnitude faster than the l1-norm minimization based methods, such as l1-SVD (singular value decomposition), RV (real-valued) l1-SVD and RV l1-SRACV (sparse representation array covariance vectors), and achieves better DOA estimation performance

Low complexity DOA estimation for wideband off-grid sources based on re-focused compressive sensing with dynamic dictionary

Under the compressive sensing (CS) framework, a novel focusing based direction of arrival (DOA) estimation method is first proposed for wideband off-grid sources, and by avoiding the application of group sparsity (GS) across frequencies of interest, significant complexity reduction is achieved with its computational complexity close to that of solving a single frequency based direction finding problem. To further improve the performance by alleviating both the off-grid approximation errors and the focusing errors which are even worse for the off-grid case, a dynamic dictionary based re-focused off-grid DOA estimation method is developed with the number of extremely sparse grids involved in estimation refined to the number of detected sources, and thus the complexity is still very low due to the limited increased complexity introduced by iterations, while improved performance can be achieved compared with those fixed dictionary based off-grid methods

Massive antenna arrays can be used to meet the requirements of 5G, by exploiting different spatial signatures of users. This same property can also be harnessed to determine the locations of those users. In order to perform massive MIMO localization, refined channel estimation routines and localization methods have been developed. This paper provides a brief overview of this emerging field

Coherent, super resolved radar beamforming using self-supervised learning

High resolution automotive radar sensors are required in order to meet the high bar of autonomous vehicles needs and regulations. However, current radar systems are limited in their angular resolution causing a technological gap. An industry and academic trend to improve angular resolution by increasing the number of physical channels, also increases system complexity, requires sensitive calibration processes, lowers robustness to hardware malfunctions and drives higher costs. We offer an alternative approach, named Radar signal Reconstruction using Self Supervision (R2-S2), which significantly improves the angular resolution of a given radar array without increasing the number of physical channels. R2-S2 is a family of algorithms which use a Deep Neural Network (DNN) with complex range-Doppler radar data as input and trained in a self-supervised method using a loss function which operates in multiple data representation spaces. Improvement of 4x in angular resolution was demonstrated using a real-world dataset collected in urban and highway environments during clear and rainy weather conditions.Comment: 28 pages 10 figure
