An Efficient Mechanism for Differentiated Quality of Internet Service

    Get PDF
The Internet industry has realized the importance of provisioning different quality of service to different applications. This paper proposes the integrated differentiated services that achieves the efficient throughput allocation without significant queue management or real-time pricing costs. Competing differentiated services integrates networks into a single network in an economy and allows endusers to submit packets to many networks. In equilibrium, each network posts any price for a submitted packet over time by virtue of the revenue equivalence property.

    Testing IP differentiated services implementations

Diffserv architecture is pointed out as a promising solution for the provision of QoS in the Internet in a scalable manner. The main objective of this work is to test, evaluate and discuss, from a practical point of view, two platforms for implementing Diffserv services: one developed at ICA/EPFL for the Linux OS and the other based on Cisco Systems routers. After comparing the configuration strategy in each platform, QoS related functionalities (e.g. classification, marking, policing, shaping) are tested and assessed. In particular, the implementation of EF and AF PHBs is analysed. The capacity of providing bandwidth guarantees and performing adequate traffic conditioning is evaluated as well as the impact background traffic has on delaying high priority traffic. Moreover, the computational effort Diffserv puts on routers is also measured in terms of CPU utilisation.EURESCOM P1006 - DISCMAN Projec

Resource Management in Diffserv On DemAnd (RODA) PHR

The purpose of this draft is to present the Resource Management in Diffserv (RMD) On DemAnd (RODA) Per Hop Reservation (PHR) protocol. The RODA PHR protocol is used on a per-hop basis in a Differentiated Services (Diffserv) domain and extends the Diffserv Per Hop Behavior (PHB) with resource provisioning and control

RMD (Resource Management in Diffserv) QoS-NSLP model

This draft describes a local QoS model, denoted as Resource Management in Diffserv (RMD) QoS model, for NSIS that extends the IETF Differentiated Services (Diffserv) architecture with a scalable admission control and resource reservation concept. The specification of this QoS model includes a description of its QoS parameter information, as well as how that information should be treated or interpreted in the network

Traffic Management Algorithms in Differentiated Services Networks

The Differentiated Services (DiffServ) Architecture, a Quality of Service (QoS) solution being worked on by an IETF work group, is aimed to solve the increasing problems with no service guarantees in the current Internet. New services such as video-on-demand and IP-telephony will be unusable without some sort of service guarantees on which to build applications on. A replacement architecture for the Integrated Services (IntServ) Architecture is needed because of its problems with overhead and scalability. This master thesis studies and evaluates traffic algorithms, specifically scheduling and active queue management algorithms, within the Differentiated Services area using the Network Simulator. The studies investigate Differentiated Services network stability and performance through noise influenced simulations. Results show that against unresponsive users network stability and performance mainly depends on the used scheduling algorithm
