Integrated photo-responsive metal oxide semiconductor circuit

    Get PDF
An infrared photoresponsive element (RD) is monolithically integrated into a source follower circuit of a metal oxide semiconductor device by depositing a layer of a lead chalcogenide as a photoresistive element forming an ohmic bridge between two metallization strips serving as electrodes of the circuit. Voltage from the circuit varies in response to illumination of the layer by infrared radiation

The 2 deg/90 deg laboratory scattering photometer

    Get PDF
A scattering photometer for measuring the light scattered by particles in a hydrosol at substantially 2 deg and 90 deg simultaneously is described. Light from a source is directed by a first optical system into a scattering cell containing the hydrosol under study. Light scattered at substantially 90 deg to the incident beam is focused onto a first photoelectric detector to generate an electrical signal indicative of the amount of scattered light at substantially 90 deg. Light scattered at substantially 2 deg to the incident beam is directed through an annular aperture symmetrically located about the axis of the illuminating beam which is linearly transmitted undeviated through the hydrosol and focused onto a second photoelectric detector to generate an electrical signal indicative of the amount of light scattered at substantially 2 deg

    Motion Detecting Method And Device

    Get PDF
In some embodiments, a motion detecting device is configured to detect whether one or more movement events have occurred. The motion detecting device can include: (a) a processing module configured to run on a computational unit; and (b) a sensing device having: (1) one or more pressure sensors configured to provide two or more pressure measurements; and (2) a transmitter electrically coupled to the one or more pressure sensors and configured to transmit the two or more pressure measurements to the computational unit. The processing module is configured to use the two or more pressure measurements to determine whether the one or more movement events have occurred. The sensing device can be configured to be placed in at least one of ductwork of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system or an air handler of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system. Other embodiments are disclosed.Georgia Tech Research Corporatio

Auto and hetero-associative memory using a 2-D optical logic gate

    Get PDF
An optical system for auto-associative and hetero-associative recall utilizing Hamming distance as the similarity measure between a binary input image vector V(sup k) and a binary image vector V(sup m) in a first memory array using an optical Exclusive-OR gate for multiplication of each of a plurality of different binary image vectors in memory by the input image vector. After integrating the light of each product V(sup k) x V(sup m), a shortest Hamming distance detection electronics module determines which product has the lowest light intensity and emits a signal that activates a light emitting diode to illuminate a corresponding image vector in a second memory array for display. That corresponding image vector is identical to the memory image vector V(sup m) in the first memory array for auto-associative recall or related to it, such as by name, for hetero-associative recall

Method and Apparatus for the Real-time Characterisation of Particles Suspended within a Fluid Medium.

This invention describes a method by which microparticles, typically in the size range from 0.3um to 100um, which are carried in a fluid suspension, may be rapidly detected and characterized. The method primarily relates to the measurement of atmospheric particles such as those in clouds or environmental aerosols, but it may be used to measure other forms of particulate suspension wherever the flow of suspension through a defined measurement space can be achieved. The method is based upon a rapid analysis of the spatial laser scattering profile (i.e., the complex manner in which individual particles scatter laser light) recorded from individual particles as they are carried in suspension through a measurement space. Using this method it is possible to differentiate various types of particles based on particle shape and structure, as manifest in characteristics of their individual spatial light scattering patterns. The sizes of spherical particles and the spherical equivalent sizes of non-spherical particles may also be determined, allowing size distribution for each particle type within the suspension to be determined. An implementation of the method for use in an aircraft mounted instrument is described
