Spectrum sharing security and attacks in CRNs: a review
Cognitive Radio plays a major part in communication technology by resolving the shortage of the spectrum through usage of dynamic spectrum access and artificial intelligence characteristics. The element of spectrum sharing in cognitive radio is a fundament al approach in utilising free channels. Cooperatively communicating cognitive radio devices use the common control channel of the cognitive radio medium access control to achieve spectrum sharing. Thus, the common control channel and consequently spectrum sharing security are vital to ensuring security in the subsequent data communication among cognitive radio nodes. In addition to well known security problems in wireless networks, cognitive radio networks introduce new classes of security threats and challenges, such as licensed user emulation attacks in spectrum sensing and misbehaviours in the common control channel transactions, which degrade the overall network operation and performance. This review paper briefly presents the known threats and attacks in wireless networks before it looks into the concept of cognitive radio and its main functionality. The paper then mainly focuses on spectrum sharing security and its related challenges. Since spectrum sharing is enabled through usage of
the common control channel, more attention is paid to the
security of the common control channel by looking into its
security threats as well as protection and detection mechanisms. Finally, the pros and cons as well as the comparisons of different CR - specific security mechanisms are presented with some open research issues and challenges
Intrusion Detection in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using Classification Algorithms
In this paper we present the design and evaluation of intrusion detection
models for MANETs using supervised classification algorithms. Specifically, we
evaluate the performance of the MultiLayer Perceptron (MLP), the Linear
classifier, the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM), the Naive Bayes classifier and
the Support Vector Machine (SVM). The performance of the classification
algorithms is evaluated under different traffic conditions and mobility
patterns for the Black Hole, Forging, Packet Dropping, and Flooding attacks.
The results indicate that Support Vector Machines exhibit high accuracy for
almost all simulated attacks and that Packet Dropping is the hardest attack to
detect.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, presented at MedHocNet 200
DPRAODV: A Dynamic Learning System Against Blackhole Attack In AODV Based MANET
Security is an essential requirement in mobile ad hoc networks to provide protected communication between mobile nodes. Due to unique characteristics of MANETS, it creates a number of consequential challenges to its security design. To overcome the challenges, there is a need to build a multifence security solution that achieves both broad protection and desirable network performance. MANETs are vulnerable to various attacks, blackhole, is one of the possible attacks. Black hole is a type of routing attack where a malicious node advertise itself as having the shortest path to all nodes in the environment by sending fake route reply. By doing this, the malicious node can deprive the traffic from the source node. It can be used as a denial-of-service attack where it can drop the packets later. In this paper, we proposed a DPRAODV (Detection, Prevention and Reactive AODV) to prevent security threats of blackhole by notifying other nodes in the network of the incident. The simulation results in ns2 (ver-2.33) demonstrate that our protocol not only prevents blackhole attack but consequently improves the overall performance of (normal) AODV in presence of black hole attack
Performance Comparison of ZHLP and M-ZHLP under Black Hole for Manet
Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) are a type of Wireless ad-hoc network that usually has a routable networking environment on top of an end-to-end Link Layer (LL) ad-hoc network.  MANETs consist of a hop-to-hop, self-arrangement and self-configure network in contrast to a mobile network has a central controller.  The solutions may not always be sufficient, as ad-hoc networks have their own vulnerabilities that cannot be addressed by these IDS solutions.  In the network, some active attacks un-forward capacity nodes pretend to be intermediate nodes of a route to some given targets, drop any packet that subsequently goes through it, is one of the main types of attack.  In this research paper, they propose black-hole attacks an analysis method to detect malicious nodes in MANETs, the mechanism is cooperative hence the protocol work cooperatively together so that they can analyze, detect malicious nodes in a reliable manner.  To verify our developed scheme by running through Network Simulations 2 (NS2) with mobile nodes using hybrid routing protocol namely, Modified - Zone based Hierarchical Link State (M-ZHLS) routing protocol.  It is observed that the black hole and malicious node detection rate is very good, reduced average delay and also increased packet delivery ratio compare Zone based Hierarchical Link State (ZHLS) routing protocol  when there is a change of mobility speed and varying topology size
Hierarchical Design Based Intrusion Detection System For Wireless Ad hoc Network
In recent years, wireless ad hoc sensor network becomes popular both in civil
and military jobs. However, security is one of the significant challenges for
sensor network because of their deployment in open and unprotected environment.
As cryptographic mechanism is not enough to protect sensor network from
external attacks, intrusion detection system needs to be introduced. Though
intrusion prevention mechanism is one of the major and efficient methods
against attacks, but there might be some attacks for which prevention method is
not known. Besides preventing the system from some known attacks, intrusion
detection system gather necessary information related to attack technique and
help in the development of intrusion prevention system. In addition to
reviewing the present attacks available in wireless sensor network this paper
examines the current efforts to intrusion detection system against wireless
sensor network. In this paper we propose a hierarchical architectural design
based intrusion detection system that fits the current demands and restrictions
of wireless ad hoc sensor network. In this proposed intrusion detection system
architecture we followed clustering mechanism to build a four level
hierarchical network which enhances network scalability to large geographical
area and use both anomaly and misuse detection techniques for intrusion
detection. We introduce policy based detection mechanism as well as intrusion
response together with GSM cell concept for intrusion detection architecture.Comment: 16 pages, International Journal of Network Security & Its

Intrusion-aware Alert Validation Algorithm for Cooperative Distributed Intrusion Detection Schemes of Wireless Sensor Networks
Existing anomaly and intrusion detection schemes of wireless sensor networks
have mainly focused on the detection of intrusions. Once the intrusion is
detected, an alerts or claims will be generated. However, any unidentified
malicious nodes in the network could send faulty anomaly and intrusion claims
about the legitimate nodes to the other nodes. Verifying the validity of such
claims is a critical and challenging issue that is not considered in the
existing cooperative-based distributed anomaly and intrusion detection schemes
of wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we propose a validation algorithm
that addresses this problem. This algorithm utilizes the concept of
intrusion-aware reliability that helps to provide adequate reliability at a
modest communication cost. In this paper, we also provide a security resiliency
analysis of the proposed intrusion-aware alert validation algorithm.Comment: 19 pages, 7 figure
