Serious interface design for dental health: Wiimote-based tangible interaction for school children
This paper describes a camera-based approach towards creating a tangible interface for serious games. We introduce our game for dental health targeted at school children which implements the Nintendo WiiMote as infrared camera. Paired with a gesture-recognition system, this combination allows us to apply real-world items as input devices. Thereby, the game tries to address different aspects of dental hygiene along with the improvement of children's motor skills. In our focus group test, we found that tangible interfaces offer great potential for educational purposes and can be used to engage kids in a playful learning process by addressing their childlike curiosity and fostering implicit learning
Tangible User Interface Design for Home Automation Energy Management Appliances
Home Automation System connects the digital technology and computers to the appliances at home and manages it. It's the frequency of use an position in the home that makes it important to have an aesthetic friendly user interface. There are numerous UI design cases of Display panel or the buttons. However, the usability or aesthetic sensibility design through using a variety of multi-layered emotional satisfaction of feeling that provides the interface design needs to be studied. This study explores the ways to satisfy the emotional needs of Home Automation System and Tangible User Interface (TUI).OAIID:oai:osos.snu.ac.kr:snu2010-01/104/0000025799/16SEQ:16PERF_CD:SNU2010-01EVAL_ITEM_CD:104USER_ID:0000025799ADJUST_YN:NEMP_ID:A075458DEPT_CD:611CITE_RATE:0FILENAME:Tangible User Interface Design for Home Automation Energy Management Appliances.pdfDEPT_NM:디자인학부EMAIL:[email protected]:

An intuitive tangible game controller
This paper outlines the development of a sensory feedback device providing a low cost, versatile and intuitive interface for controlling digital environments, in this example a flight simulator. Gesture based input allows for a more immersive experience, so rather than making the user feel like they are controlling an aircraft the intuitive interface allows the user to become the aircraft that is controlled by the movements of the user's hand. The movements are designed to feel intuitive and allow for a sense of immersion that would be difficult to achieve with an alternative interface. In this example the user's hand can become the aircraft much the same way that a child would imagine it
