CoPhy: A Scalable, Portable, and Interactive Index Advisor for Large Workloads
Index tuning, i.e., selecting the indexes appropriate for a workload, is a
crucial problem in database system tuning. In this paper, we solve index tuning
for large problem instances that are common in practice, e.g., thousands of
queries in the workload, thousands of candidate indexes and several hard and
soft constraints. Our work is the first to reveal that the index tuning problem
has a well structured space of solutions, and this space can be explored
efficiently with well known techniques from linear optimization. Experimental
results demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art commercial
and research techniques by a significant margin (up to an order of magnitude).Comment: VLDB201
An Automatic Intelligent System for Document Processing and Fruition
With the increasing amount of documents available on-line, the need for intelligent
digital libraries, that allow to automatize the document processing tasks and to suitably
organize and make available the documents so as to provide personalized and focused access,
becomes more and more pressing. This paper proposes an integrated system that merges
intelligent modules covering all the phases involved in a document lifecycle, from acquisition,
to processing, to information extraction, to personalized fruition for final users. The role and
possible cooperation of Machine Learning and Data Mining techniques in the system is
highlighted and discussed, along with their importance to provide effective support to both the
building and the fruition of the Digital Library and the underlying knowledge base
Design and implementation cloud computing (TOC, Abstract, chapter 1 and Reference only)
Cloud computing is a new technology can be described as the next generation of Information Technology for the educational technical institute in Malaysia. With the rapidly growing needs of the information technology and the current financial crisis, most of the higher education institutes including the technical institute are facing the problem to provide the ICT infrastructure, education and development activities. However, cloud computing implementation in a technical institute in Malaysia is in the beginning stage. This research aim is to design and implement of Cloud Computing at ILP Selandar in learning and teaching environment also to allow the management, reducing the cost to purchase the expensive computer, licensed software and program that using during the learning process. This research also proposed to deploy a Hybrid Cloud Computing model where is the combination of existing local infrastructure with the public Cloud. The information is gathered by the interviewing IT Team and senior lecturer, they recommend the implementation of Cloud Computing at ILP Selandar. (ABSTRACT BY AUTHOR
