Supporting service discovery, querying and interaction in ubiquitous computing environments.
In this paper, we contend that ubiquitous computing environments will be highly heterogeneous, service rich domains. Moreover, future applications will consequently be required to interact with multiple, specialised service location and interaction protocols simultaneously. We argue that existing service discovery techniques do not provide sufficient support to address the challenges of building applications targeted to these emerging environments. This paper makes a number of contributions. Firstly, using a set of short ubiquitous computing scenarios we identify several key limitations of existing service discovery approaches that reduce their ability to support ubiquitous computing applications. Secondly, we present a detailed analysis of requirements for providing effective support in this domain. Thirdly, we provide the design of a simple extensible meta-service discovery architecture that uses database techniques to unify service discovery protocols and addresses several of our key requirements. Lastly, we examine the lessons learnt through the development of a prototype implementation of our architecture
Telehealth Support System Using Wireless Technologies: The Case of Ethiopia
Telehealth is an inter-disciplinary area and is basically the delivery of health and medical information and services over large and small distances using electronic information and communication technologies. Broadband wireless services available today, along with more powerful and convenient handheld devices, will enable a transformational change in health management and healthcare with the introduction of real-time monitoring and timely responses to a wide array of patient needs. Further, a network of low-cost sensors and wireless systems help in creating constantly vigilant and pervasive monitoring capability at home and at work. This paper addresses recent efforts in this growing field, including standards, system architectures, and lower layer protocols for body area networks. The paper also suggests the use of cooperative transmission-based strategies for such wireless topologies. Keywords: Telehealth, Telemedicine, Telecare, Wireless Technology. Mobile Library
Wireless application system and application has large potential due to the very personal
and intimate nature of the device and high targeting possibilities. Due to rapid
advancement of advertising and informing technologies recent years, the concepts and
such applications have been significantly extended. This research will look deeply into
the acceptance level of implementing the wireless system at the defined area. In this
project the application and the function of advertising on mobile device has been
modified to another alternatives that can enhance the environment surrounding us. This
project is basically will be functioning as a reminder system. This system will establish
the connection between the server and the Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). The
system will deliver location-aware of information that allows the transition info from the
server to the PDAs using WiFi pull-based technology. The objective of this system being
developed is to enhance the idea and the technologies of wireless nowadays which
definitely can be implemented in various ways later on. In this project, several techniques
have been used starting with ideas and information research and gathering that have been
done through journals, existing paper work, and previous systems that create by previous
students. This report covers the background study, literature review and theory based on
research, and also methodology used in research and design phase. In research,
questionnaire is used to gather information pertaining to user preferences. Meanwhile, in
design phase, the methodologies will be explained more in chapter three (3). The lasttwo
part of this report covers result and discussion from the research and testing phase, and
also recommendation for future work.

COMMUNITY MOBILE SERVICES (FYP PROJECT FOR 2 SEMESTERS)
Property development has seen many changes in recent years. Customers are more
cautious then before, making comparison between properties before investing in one. For
a property developer to gain an edge over a competitor, they need to create new and
innovative product, while serving the customers with satisfying support service. One of
the methods that an organization can use is to provide Community Mobile Services to
township resident or community. With mobile application, buyers can communicate with
property developers more easily, while at the same time have access to a collection of
mobile Web 2.0 services for mobile users (residents & visitors) with contextual content
related to the community/township that the user is in. Developers will have a place where
user's feedbacks are categorized and reviewed for discussion and further action. For a
customer to adopt such technology, studies on Human Computer Interaction (HCI) must
be done to maximize usability of a mobile device. No user will like the pain and
complexities of a mobile device that has very limited input and output facilities. Also
push and pull technology need to be used depending on the situation, so that users are
able to receive information without hassles
M-Learning Campus Course Development Tool
The objective of M-Learning is to integrate technology with education in order to
enhance the effectiveness of students' traditional learning process. The main purpose of
M-Learning is to create a flexible learning environment for students where the
implementation of just-in-time learning is applied here. Education is the key element to
an economic success in any nation. Thus the computer and internet become essential
tools in education which provides opportunities for widening participation in to access
the Internet. A system is targeting to introduce the new way of learning environment to
the students as a learning tool. In Chapter 3, the author will discuss about the
methodology used; waterfall model, architecture of the system and tools used in
developing the system. The system prototype consists of five modules; announcement
module, courses module, grades modules, assignments module and schedule module
which will be discussed in Chapter 4. The system evaluation is done by conducting a
survey and the result analysis is presented based on Technology Acceptance Model
(TAM) concept. As in conclusion, the scope of this project has been achieved and
should provides new experience of learning style and environment
Prehospital Electronic Patient Care Report Systems: Early Experiences from Emergency Medical Services Agency Leaders
Background: As the United States embraces electronic health records (EHRs), improved emergency medical services (EMS) information systems are also a priority; however, little is known about the experiences of EMS agencies as they adopt and implement electronic patient care report (e-PCR) systems. We sought to characterize motivations for adoption of e-PCR systems, challenges associated with adoption and implementation, and emerging implementation strategies. Methods: We conducted a qualitative study using semi-structured in-depth interviews with EMS agency leaders. Participants were recruited through a web-based survey of National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP) members, a didactic session at the 2010 NAEMSP Annual Meeting, and snowball sampling. Interviews lasted approximately 30 minutes, were recorded and professionally transcribed. Analysis was conducted by a five-person team, employing the constant comparative method to identify recurrent themes. Results: Twenty-three interviewees represented 20 EMS agencies from the United States and Canada; 14 EMS agencies were currently using e-PCR systems. The primary reason for adoption was the potential for e-PCR systems to support quality assurance efforts. Challenges to e-PCR system adoption included those common to any health information technology project, as well as challenges unique to the prehospital setting, including: fear of increased ambulance run times leading to decreased ambulance availability, difficulty integrating with existing hospital information systems, and unfunded mandates requiring adoption of e-PCR systems. Three recurring strategies emerged to improve e-PCR system adoption and implementation: 1) identify creative funding sources; 2) leverage regional health information organizations; and 3) build internal information technology capacity. Conclusion: EMS agencies are highly motivated to adopt e-PCR systems to support quality assurance efforts; however, adoption and implementation of e-PCR systems has been challenging for many. Emerging strategies from EMS agencies and others that have successfully implemented EHRs may be useful in expanding e-PCR system use and facilitating this transition for other EMS agencies
