A New Reduction Scheme for Gaussian Sum Filters
In many signal processing applications it is required to estimate the
unobservable state of a dynamic system from its noisy measurements. For linear
dynamic systems with Gaussian Mixture (GM) noise distributions, Gaussian Sum
Filters (GSF) provide the MMSE state estimate by tracking the GM posterior.
However, since the number of the clusters of the GM posterior grows
exponentially over time, suitable reduction schemes need to be used to maintain
the size of the bank in GSF. In this work we propose a low computational
complexity reduction scheme which uses an initial state estimation to find the
active noise clusters and removes all the others. Since the performance of our
proposed method relies on the accuracy of the initial state estimation, we also
propose five methods for finding this estimation. We provide simulation results
showing that with suitable choice of the initial state estimation (based on the
shape of the noise models), our proposed reduction scheme provides better state
estimations both in terms of accuracy and precision when compared with other
reduction methods
ILAPF: Incremental Learning Assisted Particle Filtering
This paper is concerned with dynamic system state estimation based on a
series of noisy measurement with the presence of outliers. An incremental
learning assisted particle filtering (ILAPF) method is presented, which can
learn the value range of outliers incrementally during the process of particle
filtering. The learned range of outliers is then used to improve subsequent
filtering of the future state. Convergence of the outlier range estimation
procedure is indicated by extensive empirical simulations using a set of
differing outlier distribution models. The validity of the ILAPF algorithm is
evaluated by illustrative simulations, and the result shows that ILAPF is more
accurate and faster than a recently published state-ofthe-art robust particle
filter. It also shows that the incremental learning property of the ILAPF
algorithm provides an efficient way to implement transfer learning among
related state filtering tasks.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, conferenc
3D angle-of-arrival positioning using von Mises-Fisher distribution
We propose modeling an angle-of-arrival (AOA) positioning measurement as a
von Mises-Fisher (VMF) distributed unit vector instead of the conventional
normally distributed azimuth and elevation measurements. Describing the
2-dimensional AOA measurement with three numbers removes discontinuities and
reduces nonlinearity at the poles of the azimuth-elevation coordinate system.
Our computer simulations show that the proposed VMF measurement noise model
based filters outperform the normal distribution based algorithms in accuracy
in a scenario where close-to-pole measurements occur frequently.Comment: 5 page
Magnetic-Visual Sensor Fusion-based Dense 3D Reconstruction and Localization for Endoscopic Capsule Robots
Reliable and real-time 3D reconstruction and localization functionality is a
crucial prerequisite for the navigation of actively controlled capsule
endoscopic robots as an emerging, minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic
technology for use in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. In this study, we
propose a fully dense, non-rigidly deformable, strictly real-time,
intraoperative map fusion approach for actively controlled endoscopic capsule
robot applications which combines magnetic and vision-based localization, with
non-rigid deformations based frame-to-model map fusion. The performance of the
proposed method is demonstrated using four different ex-vivo porcine stomach
models. Across different trajectories of varying speed and complexity, and four
different endoscopic cameras, the root mean square surface reconstruction
errors 1.58 to 2.17 cm.Comment: submitted to IROS 201
