    CHORUS Deliverable 2.2: Second report - identification of multi-disciplinary key issues for gap analysis toward EU multimedia search engines roadmap

    After addressing the state-of-the-art during the first year of Chorus and establishing the existing landscape in multimedia search engines, we have identified and analyzed gaps within European research effort during our second year. In this period we focused on three directions, notably technological issues, user-centred issues and use-cases and socio- economic and legal aspects. These were assessed by two central studies: firstly, a concerted vision of functional breakdown of generic multimedia search engine, and secondly, a representative use-cases descriptions with the related discussion on requirement for technological challenges. Both studies have been carried out in cooperation and consultation with the community at large through EC concertation meetings (multimedia search engines cluster), several meetings with our Think-Tank, presentations in international conferences, and surveys addressed to EU projects coordinators as well as National initiatives coordinators. Based on the obtained feedback we identified two types of gaps, namely core technological gaps that involve research challenges, and “enablers”, which are not necessarily technical research challenges, but have impact on innovation progress. New socio-economic trends are presented as well as emerging legal challenges

    Sanitizing and Minimizing Databases for Software Application Test Outsourcing

    Abstract—Testing software applications that use nontrivial databases is increasingly outsourced to test centers in order to achieve lower cost and higher quality. Not only do different data privacy laws prevent organizations from sharing this data with test centers because databases contain sensitive information, but also this situation is aggravated by big data – it is time consum-ing and difficult to anonymize, distribute, and test with large databases. Deleting data randomly often leads to significantly worsened test coverages and fewer uncovered faults, thereby reducing the quality of software applications. We propose a novel approach for Protecting and mInimizing databases for Software TestIng taSks (PISTIS) that both sanitizes and minimizes a database that comes along with an application. PISTIS uses a weight-based data clustering algorithm that partitions data in the database using information obtained using program analysis that describes how this data is used by the application. For each cluster, a centroid object is computed that represents different persons or entities in the cluster, and we use associative rule mining to compute and use constraints to ensure that the centroid objects are representative of the general population of the data in the cluster. Doing so also sanitizes information, since these centroid objects replace the original data to make it difficult for attackers to infer sensitive information. Thus, we reduce a large database to a few centroid objects and we show in our experiments with two applications that test coverage stays within a close range to its original level. I

    A Hybrid Probabilistic Privacy Preserving Based Community Detection Model on Online Social Networking Data

    Privacy preserving plays a vital role on the online social networking sites due to high dimensionality and data size. Community detection is used to find the social relationships among the node edges and links. However, most of the conventional models are difficult to process the community structure detection due to high computational time and memory. Also, these models require contextual weighted nodes information for privacy preserving process. In order to overcome these issues, an advanced probabilistic weighted based community detection and privacy preserving framework is developed on the large social networking data. In this model, a filter based probabilistic model is developed to remove the sparse values and to find the weighted community detection nodes and its profiles for privacy preserving process. Experimental results show that the filter based probabilistic community detection framework has better efficiency in terms of normalized mutual information, Q, rand index  and runtime (ms)

    Mapping Knowledge Hierarchy on Digital Library from 2007-2017: A comparative study of India, China and United States

    Purpose: This study aims to provide a comparative analysis on knowledge hierarchy taking into account countries such as India, China and United States of America on digital library perspective research from 2007 to 2017. Methodology: This study covers articles published in the Web of Science database where 242 articles were taken into consideration and further analysis was done for the stipulated time period. Findings: The research trend of digital library in India consists of 15 core topics and other specific areas, China with 15 core areas as well for the same time period and U.S.A showed 17 core topics for research in digital library topic. The countries most researchable areas as well as related researchable areas has been analysed here. The growth of digital libraries in these countries are highlighted with appropriate diagram. Originality: Here the articles were extracted from Web of Science database for obtaining necessary findings. Major highlighted topics of India were digital library architecture/infrastructure (20.58%), whereas digital library services (11.76%) was the most researchable area of China and USA emphasised more on digital library collections (19.74%)
