Neutral Metal 1,2-Dithiolenes: Preparations, Properties and Possible Applications of Unsymmetrical in Comparison to the Symmetrical
This paper is an overview concerning the preparations and properties as well as possible applications of neutral (one component) metal 1,2-dithiolenes (and selenium analogues). The structural, chemical, electrochemical, optical and electrical behavior of these complexes depend strongly on the nature of ligand and/or the metal. The results of unsymmetrical in comparison to those of symmetrical complexes related to the properties of materials in the solid state are primarily discussed. The optical absorption spectra exhibit strong bands in the near IR spectral region ca. 700 to ca. 1950 nm. X-ray crystal structure solutions show that the complexes usually have square-planar geometry with S–S and/or M–S contacts. Some of them behave as semiconductors or conductors (metals) and are stable in air. The cyclic voltammograms at negative potentials are different from the corresponding potentials of tetrathiafulvalenes (TTFs). As a consequence, the LUMO bands occur at much lower levels than those of TTFs. Consequently, electrical measurements under conditions of field effect transistors exhibit n-type or ambipolar behavior. Illumination of materials with high power lasers exhibits non-linear optical behavior. These properties enable metal 1,2-dithiolene complexes to be classified as promising candidates for optical and electronic applications, (e.g., saturable absorbers, ambipolar inverters)
Stabilization of a honeycomb lattice of IrO octahedra in superlattices with ilmenite-type MnTiO
In the quest for quantum spin liquids, thin films are expected to open the
way for the control of intricate magnetic interactions in actual materials by
exploiting epitaxial strain and two-dimensionality. However, materials
compatible with conventional thin-film growth methods have largely remained
undeveloped. As a promising candidate towards the materialization of quantum
spin liquids in thin films, we here present a robust ilmenite-type oxide with a
honeycomb lattice of edge-sharing IrO octahedra artificially stabilized by
superlattice formation with an ilmenite-type antiferromagnetic oxide MnTiO.
The stabilized sub-unit-cell-thick Mn-Ir-O layer is isostructural to MnTiO,
having the atomic arrangement corresponding to ilmenite-type MnTiO not
discovered yet. By spin Hall magnetoresistance measurements, we found that
antiferromagnetic ordering in the ilmenite Mn sublattice is suppressed by
modified magnetic interactions in the MnO planes via the IrO planes.
These findings lay the foundation for the creation of two-dimensional Kitaev
candidate materials, accelerating the discovery of exotic physics and
applications specific to quantum spin liquids
Risk Management for Persons with Serious Mental Illness: A Process Analysis of Washington State Department of Corrections\u27 Tools
Although many evidence-based techniques are outlined in the literature, systems often assess, plan, and mitigate risk for Persons with Serious Mental Illness (PSMI) in significantly divergent ways. For more than 20 years now, the Washington State Department of Corrections has relied on the Offender Reentry Community Safety Program (ORCSP) to appraise dangerousness and presence of mental disorder, utilizing a staged process that considers a wide-ranging set of criminogenic and non-criminogenic variables. A growing body of research suggests that the ORCSP is effectively decreasing recidivism through collaborative reentry planning and mitigation between mental health and criminal justice professionals; however, whether ORCSP participant screening methods are valid or reliable remains untested. Without a cohesive assessment theory or comprehensive exploration of recidivism trends, increased scrutiny must be given to findings. In an effort to clarify these issues, this dissertation evaluates current and historical ORCSP assessment processes, overviews national standards and best-practices for PSMI risk management, and provides a set of practical recommendations to improve selection efficiency
(Dimethyl sulfoxide-κO)diphenyl(3-thioxo-3H-1,2-dithiole-4,5-dithiolato-κ2 S 4,S 5)tin(IV)
The Sn atom in the title compound, [Sn(C6H5)2(C3S5)(C2H6OS)], exists within a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry defined by two S atoms of the 1,2-dithiole-3-thione-4,5-dithiolate dianion, two ipso-C atoms from the phenyl groups, and the O atom of the dimethyl sulfoxide molecule. In this description, one of the S atoms and the O occupy axial positions. In the crystal, centrosymmetrically related molecules associate via pairs of C—H⋯S contacts, forming dimeric aggregates
Current Strategies for Reducing Recidivism
This study reports on programs for inmates and released inmates that are contributing to reductions in recidivism. Programs showing the greatest success address the issues of substance abuse, low educational attainment, and the need for vocational training, job readiness, and placement services
