Cooperative Transmission for a Vector Gaussian Parallel Relay Network
In this paper, we consider a parallel relay network where two relays
cooperatively help a source transmit to a destination. We assume the source and
the destination nodes are equipped with multiple antennas. Three basic schemes
and their achievable rates are studied: Decode-and-Forward (DF),
Amplify-and-Forward (AF), and Compress-and-Forward (CF). For the DF scheme, the
source transmits two private signals, one for each relay, where dirty paper
coding (DPC) is used between the two private streams, and a common signal for
both relays. The relays make efficient use of the common information to
introduce a proper amount of correlation in the transmission to the
destination. We show that the DF scheme achieves the capacity under certain
conditions. We also show that the CF scheme is asymptotically optimal in the
high relay power limit, regardless of channel ranks. It turns out that the AF
scheme also achieves the asymptotic optimality but only when the
relays-to-destination channel is full rank. The relative advantages of the
three schemes are discussed with numerical results.Comment: 35 pages, 10 figures, submitted to IEEE Transactions on Information

Resource Allocation for Secure Gaussian Parallel Relay Channels with Finite-Length Coding and Discrete Constellations
We investigate the transmission of a secret message from Alice to Bob in the
presence of an eavesdropper (Eve) and many of decode-and-forward relay nodes.
Each link comprises a set of parallel channels, modeling for example an
orthogonal frequency division multiplexing transmission. We consider the impact
of discrete constellations and finite-length coding, defining an achievable
secrecy rate under a constraint on the equivocation rate at Eve. Then we
propose a power and channel allocation algorithm that maximizes the achievable
secrecy rate by resorting to two coupled Gale-Shapley algorithms for stable
matching problem. We consider the scenarios of both full and partial channel
state information at Alice. In the latter case, we only guarantee an outage
secrecy rate, i.e., the rate of a message that remains secret with a given
probability. Numerical results are provided for Rayleigh fading channels in
terms of average outage secrecy rate, showing that practical schemes achieve a
performance quite close to that of ideal ones
Diversity-Multiplexing Tradeoff of Asynchronous Cooperative Diversity in Wireless Networks
Synchronization of relay nodes is an important and critical issue in
exploiting cooperative diversity in wireless networks. In this paper, two
asynchronous cooperative diversity schemes are proposed, namely, distributed
delay diversity and asynchronous space-time coded cooperative diversity
schemes. In terms of the overall diversity-multiplexing (DM) tradeoff function,
we show that the proposed independent coding based distributed delay diversity
and asynchronous space-time coded cooperative diversity schemes achieve the
same performance as the synchronous space-time coded approach which requires an
accurate symbol-level timing synchronization to ensure signals arriving at the
destination from different relay nodes are perfectly synchronized. This
demonstrates diversity order is maintained even at the presence of asynchronism
between relay node. Moreover, when all relay nodes succeed in decoding the
source information, the asynchronous space-time coded approach is capable of
achieving better DM-tradeoff than synchronous schemes and performs equivalently
to transmitting information through a parallel fading channel as far as the
DM-tradeoff is concerned. Our results suggest the benefits of fully exploiting
the space-time degrees of freedom in multiple antenna systems by employing
asynchronous space-time codes even in a frequency flat fading channel. In
addition, it is shown asynchronous space-time coded systems are able to achieve
higher mutual information than synchronous space-time coded systems for any
finite signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) when properly selected baseband waveforms
are employed
Asymptotic Analysis of Amplify and Forward Relaying in a Parallel MIMO Relay Network
This paper considers the setup of a parallel MIMO relay network in which
relays, each equipped with antennas, assist the transmitter and the
receiver, each equipped with antennas, in the half-duplex mode, under the
assumption that . This setup has been studied in the literature like
in \cite{nabar}, \cite{nabar2}, and \cite{qr}. In this paper, a simple scheme,
the so-called Incremental Cooperative Beamforming, is introduced and shown to
achieve the capacity of the network in the asymptotic case of
with a gap no more than . This result is shown to hold,
as long as the power of the relays scales as .
Finally, the asymptotic SNR behavior is studied and it is proved that the
proposed scheme achieves the full multiplexing gain, regardless of the number
of relays
