    Cognitive Radio : A Solution for Issues in Network Convergence

    While planning for strategic communication no nation or organisation can ignore the problems of dynamic radio resource allocation and interference. Among lot number of technologies as a solution Cognitive Radio (CR) is the best one, which helps to overcome the problem of interference, and also allow efficient and dynamic radio resource allocation. Applying Cognitive Radio Networks (CRN) to strategic communications as a solution, this roadmap has been proposed by nations and organizations. For fast network deployment it is mandatory to overcome traffic problem in spectrum, increase communication reshaping mechanism and also strategic radio should act as multi-functional Radio-Frequency(RF) Unit, these are the themes for which CRN is the choice. Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs) present day have many challenges, if it get clubbed with CR, many problems can be solved. Theme of our research is to empower CRN, so that it will help to solve above problems and also help to manage traffic in network convergence services without ignoring or compromising security

    Let Cognitive Radios Imitate: Imitation-based Spectrum Access for Cognitive Radio Networks

    In this paper, we tackle the problem of opportunistic spectrum access in large-scale cognitive radio networks, where the unlicensed Secondary Users (SU) access the frequency channels partially occupied by the licensed Primary Users (PU). Each channel is characterized by an availability probability unknown to the SUs. We apply evolutionary game theory to model the spectrum access problem and develop distributed spectrum access policies based on imitation, a behavior rule widely applied in human societies consisting of imitating successful behavior. We first develop two imitation-based spectrum access policies based on the basic Proportional Imitation (PI) rule and the more advanced Double Imitation (DI) rule given that a SU can imitate any other SUs. We then adapt the proposed policies to a more practical scenario where a SU can only imitate the other SUs operating on the same channel. A systematic theoretical analysis is presented for both scenarios on the induced imitation dynamics and the convergence properties of the proposed policies to an imitation-stable equilibrium, which is also the ϵ\epsilon-optimum of the system. Simple, natural and incentive-compatible, the proposed imitation-based spectrum access policies can be implemented distributedly based on solely local interactions and thus is especially suited in decentralized adaptive learning environments as cognitive radio networks

    Resource Allocation in the Cognitive Radio Network-Aided Internet of Things for the Cyber-Physical-Social System: An Efficient Jaya Algorithm

    Currently, there is a growing demand for the use of communication network bandwidth for the Internet of Things (IoT) within the cyber-physical-social system (CPSS), while needing progressively more powerful technologies for using scarce spectrum resources. Then, cognitive radio networks (CRNs) as one of those important solutions mentioned above, are used to achieve IoT effectively. Generally, dynamic resource allocation plays a crucial role in the design of CRN-aided IoT systems. Aiming at this issue, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been identified as one of the successful technologies, which works with a multi-carrier parallel radio transmission strategy. In this article, through the use of swarm intelligence paradigm, a solution approach is accordingly proposed by employing an efficient Jaya algorithm, called PA-Jaya, to deal with the power allocation problem in cognitive OFDM radio networks for IoT. Because of the algorithm-specific parameter-free feature in the proposed PA-Jaya algorithm, a satisfactory computational performance could be achieved in the handling of this problem. For this optimization problem with some constraints, the simulation results show that compared with some popular algorithms, the efficiency of spectrum utilization could be further improved by using PA-Jaya algorithm with faster convergence speed, while maximizing the total transmission rate
