Control and visualization system for managed self-organization network.
Abstract-We propose the managed self-organizing network concept considering the unexpected network changes caused by the future applications, and implement the control and visualization system for it. In the managed self-organizing network, multiple virtual networks are accommodated on a single optical infrastructure. Each virtual network is controlled based on self-organizing mechanism by attractor selection algorithm that models behavior where living organisms adapt to unknown changes in their surrounding environments. On the other hand, the physical resource management server dynamically manages the resource allocation for each virtual network to optimize the utilization of total network resources. Our implemented system efficiently visualizes the behavior of managed self-organizing network with time variability, and network filtering and clustering functions are implemented for visualization of large and multiple virtual networks. Creating business value from big data and business analytics : organizational, managerial and human resource implications
This paper reports on a research project, funded by the EPSRC’s NEMODE (New Economic Models in the Digital Economy, Network+) programme, explores how organizations create value from their increasingly Big Data and the challenges they face in doing so. Three case studies are reported of large organizations with a formal business analytics group and data volumes that can be considered to be ‘big’. The case organizations are MobCo, a mobile telecoms operator, MediaCo, a television broadcaster, and CityTrans, a provider of transport services to a major city. Analysis of the cases is structured around a framework in which data and value creation are mediated by the organization’s business analytics capability. This capability is then studied through a sociotechnical lens of organization/management, process, people, and technology. From the cases twenty key findings are identified. In the area of data and value creation these are: 1. Ensure data quality, 2. Build trust and permissions platforms, 3. Provide adequate anonymization, 4. Share value with data originators, 5. Create value through data partnerships, 6. Create public as well as private value, 7. Monitor and plan for changes in legislation and regulation. In organization and management: 8. Build a corporate analytics strategy, 9. Plan for organizational and cultural change, 10. Build deep domain knowledge, 11. Structure the analytics team carefully, 12. Partner with academic institutions, 13. Create an ethics approval process, 14. Make analytics projects agile, 15. Explore and exploit in analytics projects. In technology: 16. Use visualization as story-telling, 17. Be agnostic about technology while the landscape is uncertain (i.e., maintain a focus on value). In people and tools: 18. Data scientist personal attributes (curious, problem focused), 19. Data scientist as ‘bricoleur’, 20. Data scientist acquisition and retention through challenging work. With regards to what organizations should do if they want to create value from their data the paper further proposes: a model of the analytics eco-system that places the business analytics function in a broad organizational context; and a process model for analytics implementation together with a six-stage maturity model
Boundary Objects and their Use in Agile Systems Engineering
Agile methods are increasingly introduced in automotive companies in the
attempt to become more efficient and flexible in the system development. The
adoption of agile practices influences communication between stakeholders, but
also makes companies rethink the management of artifacts and documentation like
requirements, safety compliance documents, and architecture models.
Practitioners aim to reduce irrelevant documentation, but face a lack of
guidance to determine what artifacts are needed and how they should be managed.
This paper presents artifacts, challenges, guidelines, and practices for the
continuous management of systems engineering artifacts in automotive based on a
theoretical and empirical understanding of the topic. In collaboration with 53
practitioners from six automotive companies, we conducted a design-science
study involving interviews, a questionnaire, focus groups, and practical data
analysis of a systems engineering tool. The guidelines suggest the distinction
between artifacts that are shared among different actors in a company (boundary
objects) and those that are used within a team (locally relevant artifacts). We

Clarens Client and Server Applications
Several applications have been implemented with access via the Clarens web
service infrastructure, including virtual organization management, JetMET
physics data analysis using relational databases, and Storage Resource Broker
(SRB) access. This functionality is accessible transparently from Python
scripts, the Root analysis framework and from Java applications and browser

Implementing a Business Process Management System Using ADEPT: A Real-World Case Study
This article describes how the agent-based design of ADEPT (advanced decision environment for processed tasks) and implementation philosophy was used to prototype a business process management system for a real-world application. The application illustrated is based on the British Telecom (BT) business process of providing a quote to a customer for installing a network to deliver a specified type of telecommunication service. Particular emphasis is placed upon the techniques developed for specifying services, allowing heterogeneous information models to interoperate, allowing rich and flexible interagent negotiation to occur, and on the issues related to interfacing agent-based systems and humans. Knowledge Discovery in the SCADA Databases Used for the Municipal Power Supply System
This scientific paper delves into the problems related to the develop-ment of
intellectual data analysis system that could support decision making to manage
municipal power supply services. The management problems of mu-nicipal power
supply system have been specified taking into consideration modern tendencies
shown by new technologies that allow for an increase in the energy efficiency.
The analysis findings of the system problems related to the integrated
computer-aided control of the power supply for the city have been given. The
consideration was given to the hierarchy-level management decom-position model.
The objective task targeted at an increase in the energy effi-ciency to
minimize expenditures and energy losses during the generation and
transportation of energy carriers to the Consumer, the optimization of power
consumption at the prescribed level of the reliability of pipelines and
networks and the satisfaction of Consumers has been defined. To optimize the
support of the decision making a new approach to the monitoring of engineering
systems and technological processes related to the energy consumption and
transporta-tion using the technologies of geospatial analysis and Knowledge
Discovery in databases (KDD) has been proposed. The data acquisition for
analytical prob-lems is realized in the wireless heterogeneous medium, which
includes soft-touch VPN segments of ZigBee technology realizing the 6LoWPAN
standard over the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and also the segments of the networks
of cellu-lar communications. JBoss Application Server is used as a server-based
plat-form for the operation of the tools used for the retrieval of data
collected from sensor nodes, PLC and energy consumption record devices. The KDD
tools are developed using Java Enterprise Edition platform and Spring and ORM
