Complex data processing: fast wavelet analysis on the sphere

    Get PDF
In the general context of complex data processing, this paper reviews a recent practical approach to the continuous wavelet formalism on the sphere. This formalism notably yields a correspondence principle which relates wavelets on the plane and on the sphere. Two fast algorithms are also presented for the analysis of signals on the sphere with steerable wavelets.Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures, JFAA style, paper invited to J. Fourier Anal. and Appli

Learning from medical data streams: an introduction

    Get PDF
Clinical practice and research are facing a new challenge created by the rapid growth of health information science and technology, and the complexity and volume of biomedical data. Machine learning from medical data streams is a recent area of research that aims to provide better knowledge extraction and evidence-based clinical decision support in scenarios where data are produced as a continuous flow. This year's edition of AIME, the Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, enabled the sound discussion of this area of research, mainly by the inclusion of a dedicated workshop. This paper is an introduction to LEMEDS, the Learning from Medical Data Streams workshop, which highlights the contributed papers, the invited talk and expert panel discussion, as well as related papers accepted to the main conference

Change detection in multisensor SAR images using bivariate gamma distributions

    Get PDF
This paper studies a family of distributions constructed from multivariate gamma distributions to model the statistical properties of multisensor synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. These distributions referred to as multisensor multivariate gamma distributions (MuMGDs) are potentially interesting for detecting changes in SAR images acquired by different sensors having different numbers of looks. The first part of the paper compares different estimators for the parameters of MuMGDs. These estimators are based on the maximum likelihood principle, the method of inference function for margins and the method of moments. The second part of the paper studies change detection algorithms based on the estimated correlation coefficient of MuMGDs. Simulation results conducted on synthetic and real data illustrate the performance of these change detectors

A model checker for performance and dependability properties

    Get PDF
Markov chains are widely used in the context of performance and reliability evaluation of systems of various nature. Model checking of such chains with respect to a given (branching) temporal logic formula has been proposed for both the discrete [8] and the continuous time setting [1], [3]. In this short paper, we describe the prototype model checker EMC2E \vdash M C^2 for discrete and continuous-time Markov chains, where properties are expressed in appropriate extensions of CTL.We illustrate the general benefits of this approach and discuss the structure of the tool
