    Context-awareness in mobile tourist information systems: challenges for user interaction

This paper explores ideas of how to model, observe, evaluate, and exploit a richer notion of context in this application area. We discuss the influence of such a richer context model on the user interaction for both the capturing of context and the context-aware user/device interactions

    Improved battery life for context awareness application in smart-phones

    The new smart-phones with new operating system and portable sensors support the basis for context awareness systems and applications for handling user activity and user privacy. Nowadays, individuals need new services and real time information anywhere and anytime. Context awareness is an emerging service, which could be able to improve the user experiences in current situation. Context awareness can be considered as location, calendar, user activity and etc. The review of the literature proves that context awareness in mobile phone can be useful and studied as unavoidable service in next generation of smart-phone applications. In this paper, a short review about context awareness in mobile phone is studied, furthermore, we critically analyzed related works of context awareness in smart-phones. The review shows that the most important context in mobile phone is location, which is mostly obtained by using Global Positioning System (GPS) sensor in mobile phones but GPS can significantly increases battery consumption in mobile phones. In this regard, a framework as Improved Battery life in Context Awareness System (IBCS) is proposed to improve battery life and reduce cost of using GPS in context awareness applications based on smart-phones. The review argues the weakness and strength of these studies, and aims to (a) indicate the most important context in mobile phone, (b) reduce the battery consumption of GPS sensor in mobile phone

    Discovering Boundaries for Mobile Awareness: An Analysis of Relevant Design Factors

    Mobile awareness applications connect you with the activities of friends, colleagues, and communication partners. The development of awareness applications for mobile devices is a top priority for HCI researchers. In discovering boundaries for mobile awareness systems, it is important to consider how these devices will be used. Factors relevant to design include boundaries drawn by technical, functional, privacy and complexity issues. This paper presents a literature review and introduces a Mobile Awareness Conceptual Framework that defines relevant boundaries for mobile awareness applications. The Framework includes information awareness, people-centered awareness, and context awareness. The paper concludes with an application of the Framework to inform the design of mobile awareness systems

    Context-awareness is becoming a crucial component in the mobile learning systems due to the dynamic changing of the Mobile learning environment, a Context-aware mobile learning system senses mobile environment and reacts to changing context during the learning process. Some efforts have been made in the area of Context-aware Mobile learning systems in order to propose a user model, most of them are focusing on the technological context such as the network performances, mobile devices capabilities, others are focusing on the learners’ style and preferences, and no one tried to understand the learners’ needs. However, no one tried to study the Learning context from the point of view of the learners. For this purpose, we created a questionnaire, in which we tried to understand which learning contexts are important to the learners in the learning process, and we use it to understand their needs and preferences, to inform the design of a new Context aware Mobile Learning Approach

A number of formal models are available for reasoning about concurrency. Models designed to capture the specifics of mobility are fewer but still well represented (e.g., Mobile Ambients, π-Calculus, and Mobile UNITY). These models do not, however, provide constructs necessary for explicit modeling of context-aware interactions. This paper builds upon earlier efforts on state-based formal reasoning about mobility and explores the process by which a model such as Mobile UNITY can be transformed to explicitly capture context-awareness. Starting with an ex-amination of the essential features of context-aware systems, this paper explores a range of constructs designed to facilitate a highly decoupled style of programming among context-aware components. The result of this exploration is a model called Context UNITY

    The advancement of the Internet of things, big data, and mobile computing leads to the need for smart services that enable the context awareness and the adaptability to their changing contexts. Today, designing a smart service system is a complex task due to the lack of an adequate model support in awareness and pervasive environment. In this paper, we present a context-aware knowledge model for smart service systems that organizes the domain and context-aware knowledge into knowledge components based on the three levels of services: Services, Service system and Network of service systems. The context-aware knowledge model for smart service systems integrates all the information and knowledge related to smart services, knowledge components and context awareness that can play a key role for any framework, infrastructure, or applications deploying smart services. To demonstrate the approach, a case study about a chatbot as a smart service for customer support is presented

    Investigating design issues of context-aware mobile guides for people with visual impairments

    While mobile wayfinding systems for visually impaired people offer huge potential, most insufficiently address the differences between visual impairments and contextual environments, and offer very little context-awareness - usability issues of which are vital in supporting independent mobility. Participants experiencing a loss of central vision, loss of peripheral vision, and total vision loss made up three groups. Our multidisciplinary model of context was used to design a user study, which involved asking participants to walk to pre-determined outdoor and indoor landmarks. Significant differences were found between groups relating to information requirements, and the environmental cues encoded and used to orientate and navigate. The study also found differences between indoor and outdoor contexts. It was concluded that what is meaningful to one form of visual impairment is incidental to another. These issues need to be captured and accounted for if wayfinding systems are to be usable
