    Simulation of Mixed Critical In-vehicular Networks

    Future automotive applications ranging from advanced driver assistance to autonomous driving will largely increase demands on in-vehicular networks. Data flows of high bandwidth or low latency requirements, but in particular many additional communication relations will introduce a new level of complexity to the in-car communication system. It is expected that future communication backbones which interconnect sensors and actuators with ECU in cars will be built on Ethernet technologies. However, signalling from different application domains demands for network services of tailored attributes, including real-time transmission protocols as defined in the TSN Ethernet extensions. These QoS constraints will increase network complexity even further. Event-based simulation is a key technology to master the challenges of an in-car network design. This chapter introduces the domain-specific aspects and simulation models for in-vehicular networks and presents an overview of the car-centric network design process. Starting from a domain specific description language, we cover the corresponding simulation models with their workflows and apply our approach to a related case study for an in-car network of a premium car

    Design Optimization of Mixed-Criticality Real-Time Applications on Cost-Constrained Partitioned Architectures

    Abstract—In this paper we are interested to implement mixed-criticality hard real-time applications on a given heterogeneous distributed architecture. Applications have different criticality levels, captured by their Safety-Integrity Level (SIL), and are scheduled using static-cyclic scheduling. Mixed-criticality tasks can be integrated onto the same architecture only if there is enough spatial and temporal separation among them. We consider that the separation is provided by partitioning, such that applications run in separate partitions, and each partition is allocated several time slots on a processor. Tasks of different SILs can share a partition only if they are all elevated to the highest SIL among them. Such elevation leads to increased development costs. We are interested to determine (i) the mapping of tasks to processors, (ii) the assignment of tasks to partitions, (iii) the sequence and size of the time slots on each processor and (iv) the schedule tables, such that all the applications are schedulable and the development costs are minimized. We have proposed a Tabu Search-based approach to solve this optimization problem. The proposed algorithm has been evaluated using several synthetic and real-life benchmarks. I

    Der Workshop Methoden und Beschreibungssprachen zur Modellierung und Verifikation von Schaltungen und Systemen (MBMV 2015) findet nun schon zum 18. mal statt. Ausrichter sind in diesem Jahr die Professur Schaltkreis- und Systementwurf der Technischen Universität Chemnitz und das Steinbeis-Forschungszentrum Systementwurf und Test. Der Workshop hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, neueste Trends, Ergebnisse und aktuelle Probleme auf dem Gebiet der Methoden zur Modellierung und Verifikation sowie der Beschreibungssprachen digitaler, analoger und Mixed-Signal-Schaltungen zu diskutieren. Er soll somit ein Forum zum Ideenaustausch sein. Weiterhin bietet der Workshop eine Plattform für den Austausch zwischen Forschung und Industrie sowie zur Pflege bestehender und zur Knüpfung neuer Kontakte. Jungen Wissenschaftlern erlaubt er, ihre Ideen und Ansätze einem breiten Publikum aus Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft zu präsentieren und im Rahmen der Veranstaltung auch fundiert zu diskutieren. Sein langjähriges Bestehen hat ihn zu einer festen Größe in vielen Veranstaltungskalendern gemacht. Traditionell sind auch die Treffen der ITGFachgruppen an den Workshop angegliedert. In diesem Jahr nutzen zwei im Rahmen der InnoProfile-Transfer-Initiative durch das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung geförderte Projekte den Workshop, um in zwei eigenen Tracks ihre Forschungsergebnisse einem breiten Publikum zu präsentieren. Vertreter der Projekte Generische Plattform für Systemzuverlässigkeit und Verifikation (GPZV) und GINKO - Generische Infrastruktur zur nahtlosen energetischen Kopplung von Elektrofahrzeugen stellen Teile ihrer gegenwärtigen Arbeiten vor. Dies bereichert denWorkshop durch zusätzliche Themenschwerpunkte und bietet eine wertvolle Ergänzung zu den Beiträgen der Autoren. [... aus dem Vorwort

    Demonstrating Controlled Change for Autonomous Space Vehicles

    Recent research discusses concepts of infield changes to overcome the drawbacks of conventional lab-based system design processes. In this paper, we evaluate the concept of controlled change by applying it to a demonstration of a potential future space exploration scenario with mobile robots. The robots are capable of executing several image computations for exploration, object detection and pose estimation, which can be allocated to both FPGA-and processor resources of a System-on-Chip. The demonstrator addresses three scenarios which cover application-, environment-, and platform change. The system adapts itself to any of the named changes. This capability can increase the autonomy of future space missions. Exemplary, the demonstrator executes adaption of applications during operation to fulfill the mission goals, adaption of reliability under changing environment conditions, and adaption to sensor failure

    Throughput Optimization by Software Pipelining of Conditional Reservation tables

    Reservation tables are used at various levels in embedded systems design to represent the allocation of resources in cyclic computations. They model system-level static realtime task schedules in fields like automotive or avionics, but also model the cycle-accurate ordering of instructions at microarchitectural level, as used in software pipelining. To optimize system throughput, successive execution cycles can be pipelined, subject to resource constraints and intercycle data dependencies. In this paper we take inspiration from software pipelining and predicate-aware scheduling to define system-level pipelining techniques for task schedules given under the form of reservation tables. Our algorithms start from predicated reservation tables output by state-of-the-art latency-optimizing embedded design tools. They significantly optimize system throughput while maintaining the required strictly periodic execution model and the end-to-end latency guarantees of the input reservation table.     SimSched: A tool for Simulating Autosar Implementaion in Simulink

    AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) is an open industry standard for the automotive sector. It defines the three-layered automotive software architecture. One of these layers is the application layer, where functional behaviors are encapsulated in Software Components (SW-Cs). Inside SW-Cs, a set of runnable entities represents the internal behavior and is realized as a set of tasks. To address AUTOSAR's lack of support for modeling behaviors of runnables, languages such as Simulink are employed. Simulink simulations assume Simulink block behaviors are completed in zero execution time, while real execution requires a finite execution time. This timing mismatch can result in failures to detect unexpected runtime behaviors during the simulation phase. This paper extends the Simulink environment to model the timing properties of tasks. We present a Simulink block that can schedule tasks with non-zero simulation times. It enables a more realistic analysis during model development.Comment: 21 page
