    Numerical Treatment of Non-Linear singular pertubation problems

    Magister Scientiae - MScThis thesis deals with the design and implementation of some novel numerical methods for non-linear singular pertubations problems (NSPPs). It provide a survey of asymptotic and numerical methods for some NSPPs in the past decade. By considering two test problems, rigorous asymptotic analysis is carried out. Based on this analysis, suitable numerical methods are designed, analyzed and implemented in order to have some relevant results of physical importance. Since the asymptotic analysis provides only qualitative information, the focus is more on the numerical analysis of the problem which provides the quantitative information.South Afric

    This paper investigates the problem of finite frequency (FF) Hāˆž filtering for time-delayed singularly perturbed systems. Our attention is focused on designing filters guaranteeing asymptotic stability and FF Hāˆž disturbance attenuation level of the filtering error system. By the generalized Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov (KYP) lemma, the existence conditions of FF Hāˆž filters are obtained in terms of solving an optimization problem, which is delay-independent. The main contribution of this paper is that systematic methods are proposed for designing Hāˆž filters for delayed singularly perturbed systems

    The linear quadratic regulator problem for a class of controlled systems modeled by singularly perturbed Ito differential equations

    This paper discusses an infinite-horizon linear quadratic (LQ) optimal control problem involving state- and control-dependent noise in singularly perturbed stochastic systems. First, an asymptotic structure along with a stabilizing solution for the stochastic algebraic Riccati equation (ARE) are newly established. It is shown that the dominant part of this solution can be obtained by solving a parameter-independent system of coupled Riccati-type equations. Moreover, sufficient conditions for the existence of the stabilizing solution to the problem are given. A new sequential numerical algorithm for solving the reduced-order AREs is also described. Based on the asymptotic behavior of the ARE, a class of O(āˆšĪµ) approximate controller that stabilizes the system is obtained. Unlike the existing results in singularly perturbed deterministic systems, it is noteworthy that the resulting controller achieves an O(Īµ) approximation to the optimal cost of the original LQ optimal control problem. As a result, the proposed control methodology can be applied to practical applications even if the value of the small parameter Īµ is not precisely known.     Integral Sliding Mode Control of Lurā€™e Singularly Perturbed Systems

    This paper investigates the integral sliding mode control problem for Lurā€™e singularly perturbed systems with sector-constrained nonlinearities. First, we design a proper sliding manifold such that the motion of closed-loop systems with a state feedback controller along the manifold is absolutely stable. To achieve this, we give a matrix inequality-based absolute stability criterion; thus the above problem can be converted into a matrix inequality feasibility problem. In addition, the gain matrix can also be derived by solving the matrix inequality. Then, a discontinuous control law is synthesized to force the system state to reach the sliding manifold and stay there for all subsequent time. Finally, some numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed results

    A New Control Strategy for Photovoltaic System Connected to the Grid via Three-Time-Scale Singular Perturbation Technique with Performance Analysis

    This chapter addresses the problem of controlling single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic system through a full bridge inverter with L-filter. The control objectives are threefold: (i) forcing the voltage in the output of photovoltaic panel to track a reference. This reference has been obtained from the maximum power point tracking strategy; (ii) guaranteeing a tight regulation of the DC-link voltage; and (iii) ensuring a satisfactory power factor correction (PFC) at the grid such as the currents injected must be sinusoidal with the same frequency and the same phase as the grid voltage. The considered control problem entails several difficulties including: (i) the high dimension and strong nonlinearity of the system; (ii) the changes in atmospheric conditions. The problem is dealt with by designing a synthesized nonlinear multi-loop controller using singular perturbation technique, in which a three-time-scale dynamics is artificially induced in the closed-loop system. A formal analysis based on the three-time-scale singular perturbation technique and the averaging theory is developed to proved that all control objectives are asymptotically achieved up to small harmonic errors (ripples). The performance of the proposed approach and its strong robustness with respect to climate changes are evaluated based on the various simulations results carried out under Matlab/Simulink software

    Application of feedback linearization to tracking and almost disturbance decoupling control of the AMIRA ball and beam system

    This paper studies the tracking and almost disturbance decoupling problem of the nonlinear AMIRA ball and beam system based on the feedback linearization approach. The main contribution of this study is to construct a controller, under appropriate conditions, such that the resulting closed-loop system is valid for any initial condition and bounded tracking signal with the following characteristics: input-to-state stability with respect to disturbance inputs and almost disturbance decoupling. Two examples on the almost disturbance decoupling problem, which cannot be solved via Ref. 1, are proposed in this paper exploiting the fact that the tracking and the almost disturbance decoupling performances are easily achieved by our proposed approach

    Finite-time stochastic input-to-state stability and observer-based controller design for singular nonlinear systems

    This paper investigated observer-based controller for a class of singular nonlinear systems with state and exogenous disturbance-dependent noise. A new sufficient condition for finite-time stochastic input-to-state stability (FTSISS) of stochastic nonlinear systems is developed. Based on the sufficient condition, a sufficient condition on impulse-free and FTSISS for corresponding closed-loop error systems is provided. A linear matrix inequality condition, which can calculate the gains of the observer and state-feedback controller, is developed. Finally, two simulation examples are employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches
