Composing Trust Models towards Interoperable Trust Management
Part 2: Full PapersInternational audienceComputational trust is a central paradigm in today's Internet as our modern society is increasingly relying upon online transactions and social net- works. This is indeed leading to the introduction of various trust management systems and associated trust models, which are customized according to their target applications. However, the heterogeneity of trust models prevents exploiting the trust knowledge acquired in one context in another context although this would be beneficial for the digital, ever-connected environment. This is such an issue that this paper addresses by introducing an approach to achieve interoperability between heterogeneous trust management systems. Specifically, we define a trust meta-model that allows the rigorous specification of trust models as well as their composition. The resulting composite trust models enable heterogeneous trust management systems to interoperate transparently through mediators
Flock together with CReATIVE-B: A roadmap of global research data infrastructures supporting biodiversity and ecosystem science
Biodiversity research infrastructures are providing the integrated data sets and support for studying scenarios of biodiversity and ecosystem dynamics. The CReATIVE-B project - Coordination of Research e-Infrastructures Activities Toward an International Virtual Environment for Biodiversity – explored how cooperation and interoperability of large-scale Research Infrastructures across the globe could support the challenges of biodiversity and ecosystem research. A key outcome of the project is that the research infrastructures agreed to continue cooperation after the end of the project to advance scientific progress in understanding and predicting the complexity of natural systems. By working together in implementing the recommendations in this Roadmap, the data and capabilities of the cooperating research infrastructures are better served to address the grand challenges for biodiversity and ecosystem scientists
Autonomous systems for operations in critical environments
This paper proposes an environment devoted to simulate the use of autonomous systems in the context of space exploratory missions and
operations; this research focuses on supporting engineering of autonomous systems and of their innovative artificial intelligences through
interoperable simulation. The proposed approach enables also development of training and educational solutions for use of robots and autonomous systems in space critical environments. The paper addresses different application areas including robotic inventory and
warehouse solutions, intelligent space guard systems, drones for supporting extravehicular activities and for managing accidents and health
emergencies. The paper investigates the potential of autonomous systems as well as their capability to interoperate with other systems and with
humans, especially in critical environments. Finally, the paper presents the existing researches for interoperable simulators devoted to address
these challenging topics within Simulation Exploratory Experience initiative
Towards Grid-Wide Modeling and Simulation
Modeling and simulation permeate all areas of business, science and engineering. With the increase in the scale and complexity of simulations, large amounts of computational resources are required, and collaborative model development is needed, as multiple parties could be involved in the development process. The Grid provides a platform for coordinated resource sharing and application development and execution. In this paper, we survey existing technologies in modeling and simulation, and we focus on interoperability and composability of simulation components for both simulation development and execution. We also present our recent work on an HLA-based simulation framework on the Grid, and discuss the issues to achieve composability.Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA

This chapter outlines some of the challenges and opportunities associated
with adopting provenance principles and standards in a variety of disciplines,
including data publication and reuse, and information sciences
Dynamic service composition for telecommunication services and its challenges
As communication networks have evolved towards IP (Internet Protocol) networks, telecommunication operators has expanded its reach to internet multimedia web content services while operating circuit-switch networks in parallel. With the adoption of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) that enables service capability interfaces to be published and integrated with other service capabilities into new composite service, service composition allows telecommunication providers to accelerate more new services provisioning. From the perspective of telecommunication providers to deliver integrated composite service from different providers and different network protocols, this paper is aimed to present the current service composition based on middleware approaches; discuss the requirements of meeting the challenges; and compare the approaches
QUALITY OF SERVICE ORIENTED WEB SERVICE SELECTION: AN EVALUATION OF TECHNIQUES
Abstract
In service-oriented computing, web services are the basic foundation that aims to facilitate building of business application in a more flexible and interoperable manner for enterprise collaboration. One of the most promising advantages of web service technology is the possibility of creating added-value services by combining existing ones. A key step for composing and executing services lies in the selection of the individual service to use. Much attention has been devoted to appropriate selection of service functionalities, but also the non-functional properties of the services play a key role. A web service selection technique must take as much as possible the important influencing aspects into account to the selection process in order to minimize the selection efforts. This paper evaluates several web service selection techniques published in literature with the focus on their contributions to web service selection. The evaluation results can be used as a basis for improving web service selection techniques and then simplifying the selection tasks
