Research and Applications of the Processes of Performance Appraisal: A Bibliography of Recent Literature, 1981-1989
[Excerpt] There have been several recent reviews of different subtopics within the general performance appraisal literature. The reader of these reviews will find, however, that the accompanying citations may be of limited utility for one or more reasons. For example, the reference sections of these reviews are usually composed of citations which support a specific theory or practical approach to the evaluation of human performance. Consequently, the citation lists for these reviews are, as they must be, highly selective and do not include works that may have only a peripheral relationship to a given reviewer\u27s target concerns. Another problem is that the citations are out of date. That is, review articles frequently contain many citations that are fifteen or more years old. The generation of new studies and knowledge in this field occurs very rapidly. This creates a need for additional reference information solely devoted to identifying the wealth of new research, ideas, and writing that is changing the field
A goal-oriented requirements modelling language for enterprise architecture
Methods for enterprise architecture, such as TOGAF, acknowledge the importance of requirements engineering in the development of enterprise architectures. Modelling support is needed to specify, document, communicate and reason about goals and requirements. Current modelling techniques for enterprise architecture focus on the products, services, processes and applications of an enterprise. In addition, techniques may be provided to describe structured requirements lists and use cases. Little support is available however for modelling the underlying motivation of enterprise architectures in terms of stakeholder concerns and the high-level goals that address these concerns. This paper describes a language that supports the modelling of this motivation. The definition of the language is based on existing work on high-level goal and requirements modelling and is aligned with an existing standard for enterprise modelling: the ArchiMate language. Furthermore, the paper illustrates how enterprise architecture can benefit from analysis techniques in the requirements domain
Requirements Prioritization Based on Benefit and Cost Prediction: An Agenda for Future Research
In early phases of the software cycle, requirements
prioritization necessarily relies on the specified
requirements and on predictions of benefit and cost of
individual requirements. This paper presents results of
a systematic review of literature, which investigates
how existing methods approach the problem of
requirements prioritization based on benefit and cost.
From this review, it derives a set of under-researched
issues which warrant future efforts and sketches an
agenda for future research in this area
Quality measures for ETL processes: from goals to implementation
Extraction transformation loading (ETL) processes play an increasingly important role for the support of modern business operations. These business processes are centred around artifacts with high variability and diverse lifecycles, which correspond to key business entities. The apparent complexity of these activities has been examined through the prism of business process management, mainly focusing on functional requirements and performance optimization. However, the quality dimension has not yet been thoroughly investigated, and there is a need for a more human-centric approach to bring them closer to business-users requirements. In this paper, we take a first step towards this direction by defining a sound model for ETL process quality characteristics and quantitative measures for each characteristic, based on existing literature. Our model shows dependencies among quality characteristics and can provide the basis for subsequent analysis using goal modeling techniques. We showcase the use of goal modeling for ETL process design through a use case, where we employ the use of a goal model that includes quantitative components (i.e., indicators) for evaluation and analysis of alternative design decisions.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
Survey on Evaluation Methods for Dialogue Systems
In this paper we survey the methods and concepts developed for the evaluation
of dialogue systems. Evaluation is a crucial part during the development
process. Often, dialogue systems are evaluated by means of human evaluations
and questionnaires. However, this tends to be very cost and time intensive.
Thus, much work has been put into finding methods, which allow to reduce the
involvement of human labour. In this survey, we present the main concepts and
methods. For this, we differentiate between the various classes of dialogue
systems (task-oriented dialogue systems, conversational dialogue systems, and
question-answering dialogue systems). We cover each class by introducing the
main technologies developed for the dialogue systems and then by presenting the
evaluation methods regarding this class
Exploration of the High Entropy Alloy Space as a Constraint Satisfaction Problem
High Entropy Alloys (HEAs), Multi-principal Component Alloys (MCA), or
Compositionally Complex Alloys (CCAs) are alloys that contain multiple
principal alloying elements. While many HEAs have been shown to have unique
properties, their discovery has been largely done through costly and
time-consuming trial-and-error approaches, with only an infinitesimally small
fraction of the entire possible composition space having been explored. In this
work, the exploration of the HEA composition space is framed as a Continuous
Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CCSP) and solved using a novel Constraint
Satisfaction Algorithm (CSA) for the rapid and robust exploration of alloy
thermodynamic spaces. The algorithm is used to discover regions in the HEA
Composition-Temperature space that satisfy desired phase constitution
requirements. The algorithm is demonstrated against a new (TCHEA1) CALPHAD HEA
thermodynamic database. The database is first validated by comparing phase
stability predictions against experiments and then the CSA is deployed and
tested against design tasks consisting of identifying not only single phase
solid solution regions in ternary, quaternary and quinary composition spaces
but also the identification of regions that are likely to yield
precipitation-strengthened HEAs.Comment: 14 pages, 13 figure
