Synchronization of dynamical networks with nonidentical nodes: Criteria and control

    Get PDF
This paper presents a framework for global synchronization of dynamical networks with nonidentical nodes. Several criteria for synchronization are given using free matrices for both cases of synchronizing to a common equilibrium solution of all isolated nodes and synchronizing to the average state trajectory. These criteria can be viewed as generalizations of the master stability function method for local synchronization of networks with identical nodes to the case of nonidentical nodes. The controlled synchronization problem is also studied. The control action, which is subject to certain constraints, is viewed as reorganization of the connection topology of the network. Synchronizability conditions via control are put forward. The synchronizing controllers can be obtained by solving an optimization problem.published_or_final_versio

Complex Projective Synchronization in Drive-Response Stochastic Complex Networks by Impulsive Pinning Control

    Get PDF
The complex projective synchronization in drive-response stochastic coupled networks with complex-variable systems is considered. The impulsive pinning control scheme is adopted to achieve complex projective synchronization and several simple and practical sufficient conditions are obtained in a general drive-response network. In addition, the adaptive feedback algorithms are proposed to adjust the control strength. Several numerical simulations are provided to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed methods

Synchronization of coupled neural oscillators with heterogeneous delays

We investigate the effects of heterogeneous delays in the coupling of two excitable neural systems. Depending upon the coupling strengths and the time delays in the mutual and self-coupling, the compound system exhibits different types of synchronized oscillations of variable period. We analyze this synchronization based on the interplay of the different time delays and support the numerical results by analytical findings. In addition, we elaborate on bursting-like dynamics with two competing timescales on the basis of the autocorrelation function.Comment: 18 pages, 14 figure

Synchronization, quantum correlations and entanglement in oscillator networks

Synchronization is one of the paradigmatic phenomena in the study of complex systems. It has been explored theoretically and experimentally mostly to understand natural phenomena, but also in view of technological applications. Although several mechanisms and conditions for synchronous behavior in spatially extended systems and networks have been identified, the emergence of this phenomenon has been largely unexplored in quantum systems until very recently. Here we discuss synchronization in quantum networks of different harmonic oscillators relaxing towards a stationary state, being essential the form of dissipation. By local tuning of one of the oscillators, we establish the conditions for synchronous dynamics, in the whole network or in a motif. Beyond the classical regime we show that synchronization between (even unlinked) nodes witnesses the presence of quantum correlations and entanglement. Furthermore, synchronization and entanglement can be induced between two different oscillators if properly linked to a random network.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Scientific Report

Chimera states: Coexistence of coherence and incoherence in networks of coupled oscillators

A chimera state is a spatio-temporal pattern in a network of identical coupled oscillators in which synchronous and asynchronous oscillation coexist. This state of broken symmetry, which usually coexists with a stable spatially symmetric state, has intrigued the nonlinear dynamics community since its discovery in the early 2000s. Recent experiments have led to increasing interest in the origin and dynamics of these states. Here we review the history of research on chimera states and highlight major advances in understanding their behaviour.Comment: 26 pages, 3 figure
