A Fuzzy Approach to Erroneous Inputs in Context-Free Language Recognition
Using fuzzy context-free grammars one can easily describe a finite number of ways to derive incorrect strings together with their degree of correctness. However, in general there is an infinite number of ways to perform a certain task wrongly. In this paper we introduce a generalization of fuzzy context-free grammars, the so-called fuzzy context-free -grammars, to model the situation of making a finite choice out of an infinity of possible grammatical errors during each context-free derivation step. Under minor assumptions on the parameter this model happens to be a very general framework to describe correctly as well as erroneously derived sentences by a single generating mechanism.
Our first result characterizes the generating capacity of these fuzzy context-free -grammars. As consequences we obtain: (i) bounds on modeling grammatical errors within the framework of fuzzy context-free grammars, and (ii) the fact that the family of languages generated by fuzzy context-free -grammars shares closure properties very similar to those of the family of ordinary context-free languages.
The second part of the paper is devoted to a few algorithms to recognize fuzzy context-free languages: viz. a variant of a functional version of Cocke-Younger- Kasami's algorithm and some recursive descent algorithms. These algorithms turn out to be robust in some very elementary sense and they can easily be extended to corresponding parsing algorithms
A Survey on Continuous Time Computations
We provide an overview of theories of continuous time computation. These
theories allow us to understand both the hardness of questions related to
continuous time dynamical systems and the computational power of continuous
time analog models. We survey the existing models, summarizing results, and
point to relevant references in the literature
Subshifts as Models for MSO Logic
We study the Monadic Second Order (MSO) Hierarchy over colourings of the
discrete plane, and draw links between classes of formula and classes of
subshifts. We give a characterization of existential MSO in terms of
projections of tilings, and of universal sentences in terms of combinations of
"pattern counting" subshifts. Conversely, we characterise logic fragments
corresponding to various classes of subshifts (subshifts of finite type, sofic
subshifts, all subshifts). Finally, we show by a separation result how the
situation here is different from the case of tiling pictures studied earlier by

Numbers and Languages
The thesis presents results obtained during the authors PhD-studies. First systems of language equations of a simple form consisting of just two equations are proved to be computationally universal. These are systems over unary alphabet, that are seen as systems of equations over natural numbers. The systems contain only an equation X+A=B and an equation X+X+C=X+X+D, where A, B, C and D are eventually periodic constants. It is proved that for every recursive set S there exists natural numbers p and d, and eventually periodic sets A, B, C and D such that a number n is in S if and only if np+d is in the unique solution of the abovementioned system of two equations, so all recursive sets can be represented in an encoded form. It is also proved that all recursive sets cannot be represented as they are, so the encoding is really needed.
Furthermore, it is proved that the family of languages generated by Boolean grammars is closed under injective gsm-mappings and inverse gsm-mappings. The arguments apply also for the families of unambiguous Boolean languages, conjunctive languages and unambiguous languages.
Finally, characterizations for morphisims preserving subfamilies of context-free languages are presented. It is shown that the families of deterministic and LL context-free languages are closed under codes if and only if they are of bounded deciphering delay. These families are also closed under non-codes, if they map every letter into a submonoid generated by a single word. The family of unambiguous context-free languages is closed under all codes and under the same non-codes as the families of deterministic and LL context-free languages.Siirretty Doriast
