California’s State University: A Leadership Perspective
Editor’s Introduction: Dr. Timothy P. White has served as chancellor of the California State University (CSU) system since late 2012. As chancellor, he oversees 23 campuses, over 460,000 students, and 47,000 faculty and staff. The CSU spans the entire state of California and has an an-nual budget of more than $5 billion. It is one of the most diverse and most affordable university systems in the country. In June 2015, members of the Editorial Board of The Journal of Transformative Leadership and Policy Studies (JTLPS) met with Chancellor White in Long Beach, California to engage on issues surrounding leadership, policy and transformational change across the largest four-year system of higher education in the United States. This reflective essay was culled from a transcribed inter-view and themed around six major areas: institutional vision, leadership, future of the California State Univer-sity system, facilitating system level change, the CSU as a state-wide system with local flavors, and legacy fore-sight. The title to this reflective essay came from Chancel-lor’s White interview as he asserted that the official name of the university was California State University and that in a sense the apostrophe “s” as a possessive would ide-ally reflect that the system is California’s state university
Digital learning objects: a local response to the California State University system initiative
The purpose of this paper is to present a virtual library plan created by library directors of the 23 California State University (CSU) system campuses. The information literacy portion of the project offers a repository of high quality interactive digital learning objects (DLOs) in the MERLOT repository. Therefore, DLOs created locally at the Dr Martin Luther King, Jr Library at San José State University (SJSU) focus on topics that supplement the “core” DLO collection
A Mixed Method Study of the Impact and Outcomes of Graduates of the CSU Northern California Consortium Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Class of 2014
In 2010, in response to a demand for advanced practice nurses to meet the burgeoning needs of the state\u27s population, the California legislature passed AB 867 which called for a pilot project to institute the Doctor of Nursing Practice program in the California State University campus system (Nava & Arambula, 2010). Two programs, one based in Southern California and the other in Northern California, opened in fall of 2012. In Northern California, Fresno State was chosen as the base campus with San Jose State University as the partner campus for the CSU Northern California Consortium of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. The goal of this DNP program is to produce leaders and advanced practice nurses to serve in the increasingly complex California health care system as well as produce faculty capable of teaching nursing in colleges and universities.
This report describes the results of a research study undertaken by the Co-Director of the CSU Northern California Consortium of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program (CSUNCCDNP) program from February 2015 to May 2015 that sought to understand the impact and the outcomes of the program on recent graduates from the Class of May 2014.
This report will present both qualitative information and quantitative data on the impact and outcomes of the class of 2014 of the (CSUNCCDNP) program. Because the program is new in the California State University system, evaluation of the DNP program is critical to curricular and program development, and measuring program success. The California state legislature is requesting specific information that can be collected in survey form regarding where DNP graduates are working, what kinds of positions they are holding, and if their employment has changed since their graduation (Nava & Arambula, 2010)
Analysis of Policy Issues Relating to Public Investment in Private Freight Infrastructure, MTI Report 99-03
The Norman Y. Mineta International Institute for Surface Transportation Policy Studies (IISTPS) at San José State University conducted this study to review the issues and implications involved in the investment of public funds in private freight infrastructure. After thorough legal research, the project team reached the following conclusions: LEGAL ANALYSIS: The California legislature has the legal power to invest public funds in privately-owned freight infrastructure projects State Highway funds, excepting gas tax revenues, may be used for investment in freight infrastructure projects. Gas tax revenues are restricted to highway use by current interpretations of the California Constitution. A challenge to this interpretation is not recommended. Gas tax revenues may be invested in roadway segments of freight infrastructure projects. RECOMMENDATIONS An analytical system of guidelines should be developed to score and evaluate any proposed freight infrastructure project. Economic development must be included in these scoring guidelines. Public agencies should maintain political contacts in order to control the political short-circuits of the planning process. The California Department of Transportation should develop a Freight Improvement Priority System for the purpose of prioritizing all freight improvement projects
“Sign or Get Out”: Academic Freedom at the University of California and Cal Poly in the McCarthy Era
The administering of loyalty oaths in America attained a certain controversy in late 1949 and into 1950 when the state of California and the University of California Board of Regents implemented loyalty oaths that explicitly demanded that all employees declare that they were not a member of the Communist Party. A crisis ensued, as many academics, faculty, and state employees were given the choice between the constitutional right to free speech and job security. Many of these individuals chose integrity in the face of losing their job, their reputation, and their livelihood. This paper will examine the consequences of implementing such an oath in California and the reactions to the loyalty oaths of 1949 and 1950 by students, faculty, and those who initiated loyalty oath policies and legislation, specifically the University of California Board of Regents. I will focus on California Polytechnic State University and compare its campus reactions to the loyalty oath crisis with that of several universities within the UC System

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevailing student disciplinary issues regarding student conduct in the California State University System
Presence of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase gene (NDM-1) in a clinical isolate of Acinetobacter junii in Argentina
Here we report the presence of a clinically significant A. junii blaNDM-1 positive in a 38-year-old woman who was admitted to the emergency department with a fever and leg ulcers with signs of infection. The NDM-1 carbapenemase has been dramatically spread among Gram-negative bacilli, thus imposing a new challenge on the health system to fight bacterial infections. These data expand the number of Acinetobacter species harbouring blaNDM-1. The wide existence of Acinetobacter harbouring and dispersing this carbapenemase emphasizes the importance of non-previously recognized pathogens as reservoirs of dangerous resistance determinants. These resistance determinants can be later easily transferred to other menacing pathogens.Fil: Montaña, Sabrina Daiana. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Study on Administration of System Administrative Organization in State-operated Universities in America:case study on University of California, California State University and State University of New
Of state university systems prosperously developed after the Second World War, many campuses assume tripartite responsibilities very well-teaching, research and public service.
