Gunrock: A High-Performance Graph Processing Library on the GPU
For large-scale graph analytics on the GPU, the irregularity of data access
and control flow, and the complexity of programming GPUs have been two
significant challenges for developing a programmable high-performance graph
library. "Gunrock", our graph-processing system designed specifically for the
GPU, uses a high-level, bulk-synchronous, data-centric abstraction focused on
operations on a vertex or edge frontier. Gunrock achieves a balance between
performance and expressiveness by coupling high performance GPU computing
primitives and optimization strategies with a high-level programming model that
allows programmers to quickly develop new graph primitives with small code size
and minimal GPU programming knowledge. We evaluate Gunrock on five key graph
primitives and show that Gunrock has on average at least an order of magnitude
speedup over Boost and PowerGraph, comparable performance to the fastest GPU
hardwired primitives, and better performance than any other GPU high-level

Fast network centrality analysis using GPUs
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>With the exploding volume of data generated by continuously evolving high-throughput technologies, biological network analysis problems are growing larger in scale and craving for more computational power. General Purpose computation on Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU) provides a cost-effective technology for the study of large-scale biological networks. Designing algorithms that maximize data parallelism is the key in leveraging the power of GPUs.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We proposed an efficient data parallel formulation of the All-Pairs Shortest Path problem, which is the key component for shortest path-based centrality computation. A betweenness centrality algorithm built upon this formulation was developed and benchmarked against the most recent GPU-based algorithm. Speedup between 11 to 19% was observed in various simulated scale-free networks. We further designed three algorithms based on this core component to compute closeness centrality, eccentricity centrality and stress centrality. To make all these algorithms available to the research community, we developed a software package <it>gpu</it>-<it>fan </it>(GPU-based Fast Analysis of Networks) for CUDA enabled GPUs. Speedup of 10-50Ă— compared with CPU implementations was observed for simulated scale-free networks and real world biological networks.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p><it>gpu</it>-<it>fan </it>provides a significant performance improvement for centrality computation in large-scale networks. various optimization strategies and evaluate Gunrock's overall performance on
different GPU architectures on a wide range of graph primitives that span from
traversal-based algorithms and ranking algorithms, to triangle counting and
bipartite-graph-based algorithms. The results show that on a single GPU,
Gunrock has on average at least an order of magnitude speedup over Boost and
PowerGraph, comparable performance to the fastest GPU hardwired primitives and
CPU shared-memory graph libraries such as Ligra and Galois, and better

A Faster Algorithm for Betweenness Centrality Based on Adjacency Matrices
Betweenness centrality is essential in complex network analysis; it
characterizes the importance of nodes and edges in networks. It is a crucial
problem that exactly computes the betweenness centrality in large networks
faster, which urgently needs to be solved. We propose a novel algorithm for
betweenness centrality based on the parallel computing of adjacency matrices,
which is faster than the existing algorithms for large networks. The time
complexity of the algorithm is only related to the number of nodes in the
network, not the number of edges. Experimental evidence shows that the
algorithm is effective and efficient. This novel algorithm is faster than
Brandes' algorithm on small and dense networks and offers excellent solutions
for betweenness centrality index computing on large-scale complex networks
