Modelação da procura turística em Portugal

Dado o crescimento substancial do setor do turismo em Portugal, será de todo proveitoso desenvolver modelos suscetíveis de serem utilizados para modelar e efetuar previsões fiáveis da procura turística, dado que esta assume um papel relevante no processo de planeamento e de tomada de decisões tanto no contexto do setor público como do privado (Fernandes, 2005). Desta forma, o principal objetivo do presente trabalho assentou em modelar a procura turística de Portugal utilizando modelos econométricos, tendo por base o modelo linear geral. Pretendeu-se assim, construir um instrumento que permita obter uma visão antecipada da evolução da procura turística para Portugal. Para tal e como objeto de estudo utilizou-se a série temporal de turismo “dormidas mensais registadas em Portugal”, compreendida entre o período de janeiro de 1996 a dezembro de 2009, dados recolhidos junto da EUROSTAT (2012)

Modelação e caracterização da procura turística : o caso da região Norte de Portugal

No sentido de contribuir para o enriquecimento de estudos na área de Turismo, pretendeu-se com o presente trabalho caracterizar o Turismo na Região Norte de Portugal, sob o ponto de vista da procura e modelar a procura turística para a região em análise, tendo por base modelos econométricos assentes no modelo linear geral. Pelos resultados obtidos, para a primeira análise, concluiu-se que os turistas passam menos dias na região, apesar das dormidas terem aumentado. As regiões do litoral apresentam um índice de preferência superior quando comparado com as regiões do interior. O índice de saturação turística tem vindo a aumentar, podendo provocar impactos negativos. Por outro lado, o modelo econométrico encontrado produziu resultados satisfatórios, evidenciando ser adequado para modelar a procura turística na região

Tourism revenue for the North Region of Portugal : an econometric analysis

The purpose of this study is to build a model that allows estimating the Tourism Revenue for the North Region of Portugal. To achieve the Multiple Linear Regression Model estimated by Ordinary Least Squares Method it was selected 13 economic variables and collected 72 monthly observations for the period between January 2006 and December 2011. The empirical analysis showed that the model of First difference of LOG is the econometric model that explains better the tourism revenue for the North Region of Portugal. The model as well indicated that the tourism revenue are influenced by variations occurred in the number of national and foreigners tourists, in the available income of the national and foreigners tourists and still in the typology of the hotel establishment. Although of the high increase of foreign tourists in the North Region and hotel investment, the domestic tourism was the main contribution for the tourism revenue

Tourism demand in Northern Portugal: application of a multivariate model

The northern region of Portugal has revealed some potential in the tourism sector over the last few years and capable of attracting tourist to this region. The reason of being of this work is to qualify the flow of tourists that come to the study region and verify the determining factors that influence tourist demand. Thus the main aim of this work is to model tourist demand in the Northern Region of Portugal using econometric models based on stochastic general linear model. With that in mind, the tourism temporal series “Monthly Nights in Hotels in the Northern Region of Portugal”, recorded for the period Jan. 1996 - Dec. 2009, taking into consideration the main countries of origin of tourists. The results obtained revealed that the model found produced satisfactory results, guarantying the basic hypothesis of the general linear model, showing its capabilities to explain the behaviour of tourist demand in the Northern region of Portugal. OLS Estimator for a Mixed Regressive, Spatial Autoregressive Model: Extended Version

We find the asymptotic distribution of the OLS estimator of the parameters $$ and $\rho$ in the mixed spatial model with exogenous regressors $$. The exogenous regressors may be bounded or growing, like polynomial trends. The assumption about the spatial matrix $W_n$ is appropriate for the situation when each economic agent is influenced by many others. The error term is a short-memory linear process. The key finding is that in general the asymptotic distribution contains both linear and quadratic forms in standard normal variables and is not normal.$L_p$-approximability; mixed spatial model; OLS asymptotics

O Turismo é um sector de actividade económica fundamental para a economia portuguesa, caracterizado, em larga medida e no que concerne à procura, por uma elevada sazonabilidade. A actividade turística tem vindo apresentar-se como um factor-chave para o desenvolvimento dos países ou regiões, sobretudo naquelas onde o tecido económico e produtivo é pouco competitivo. Neste sentido e no que concerne à Região Norte de Portugal, ao longo dos últimos anos, a mesma tem relevado algumas potencialidades no sector turístico, demonstrando a aposta feita neste sector. Deste modo, faz todo o sentido construir mecanismos que permitam obter uma visão antecipada da evolução da procura turística. Este trabalho teve como objectivo caracterizar o sector do turismo na Região Norte de Portugal, sob o ponto de vista da procura. Para tal calcularam-se alguns indicadores da actividade turística, registadas no período compreendido entre 1996 e 2008. O principal objectivo prende-se com a modelação da procura turística na Região Norte de Portugal utilizando modelos econométricos, assentes no modelo linear geral. Para tal, utilizou-se a série temporal de turismo: “Dormidas Mensais, nos estabelecimentos hoteleiros, na Região Norte de Portugal”, registadas no período de Janeiro de 1996 a Dezembro 2009. Os resultados obtidos revelaram que o número de dormidas e de hóspedes, registaram aumentos em alguns anos, os quais poderão ser consequência de alguns eventos tais como, EXPO em 1998 e o EURO em 2004. Para dar resposta ao segundo objectivo e após a construção do modelo econométrico verificou-se que o modelo de primeiras diferenças foi o que produziu os resultados mais satisfatórios, garantindo as hipóteses básicas do modelo linear geral, evidenciando, ainda, ser adequado para explicar o comportamento da procura turística, na região Norte de Portugal. Tourism is an economic key sector for the Portuguese economy, characterized, especially and in relation to demand, by a high seasonality. Tourism has been presented as a key factor for the development of countries or regions, especially those where the economic and productive is uncompetitive. In this regard and in regard to the North Region of Portugal, over the past few years, it has subsumed some potential in the tourism sector, demonstrating the investment made in this sector. It is of fundamental importance to model and forecast tourist demand for tourism planning, making use of different modelling and forecasting instruments and methods that contribute to more precise tourist demand forecasting. Thus the main aim of this scientific work was to characterize the tourism industry in Northern Portugal, from the point of view of tourism demand. To this end we calculated some indicators of tourism activity, recorded in the period between 1996 and 2008. The first objective, deals with modelling the tourism demand in Northern Region of Portugal using econometric models, based on the general linear model. With that in mind, we used the time series "Monthly Guest Nights in Hotel Establishments in the Northern Region of Portugal", that been registered in the period January 1996 to December 2009. The results obtained revealed that the number of overnights and guests, registered increases in some years, which may be due to some events such as EXPO in 1998 and the EURO in 2004. To answer the second objective and after construction the econometric model, found that the model of first differences was what produced the most satisfactory results, ensuring the basic assumptions of general linear model, showing its capabilities to explain the behaviour of tourism demand in the Northern Region of Portugal
