This thesis will help to define the best practices for implementing a CRM (Customer Resource Management) system in corporate enterprises. The notion that CRM is just an Information Technology Software Application is shortsighted. CRM is a more global design incorporating vendors, supply chains, enterprises, and customers. In presenting this dissertation, I follow proven and respected processes in order to set a foundation that is necessary for a structured research framework to identify best practices in CRM systems

Magister Commercii (Information Management) - MCom(IM)Micro-enterprises solve many socio-economic issues facing developing nations because of their large contribution to economic development and progress. Micro-enterprises have been influenced by the continued globalisation, digitisation and modernisation of business practices. As a result, micro-enterprises’ are investing in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to enhance enterprise and economic growth, performance, productivity and a competitive advantage. However, the benefits of these investments are not always realised, often because of the ad hoc nature in which micro-enterprises function and a lack of formalised methods and strategy. When these are not realised, micro-enterprise suffer in terms of competitiveness, performance and returns. Maturity models, are tools that help solve issues relating to an enterprise’s current status in terms of its capabilities and resources, and how these issues can be improved. Maturity models may present the ideal solution for micro-enterprise to invest in ICT. Larger enterprises have been able to use maturity models for strategic ICT investments realising benefits. The benefits of using maturity models as a guide to ICT investment include: saving on long-term operational and tactical costs, self-evaluation and linking business and ICT strategy among others. This research sought to determine how micro-enterprises in the Western Cape can use a maturity model in planning strategy for investments in ICT. Data was gathered from micro-enterprises and their stakeholders to find the best maturity model fit. These model fitness considered the entire internal and external environmental factors influencing micro-enterprise ICT investment decision-making. The research investigated micro-enterprises, their current practices, focus and strategic, tactical and operational behaviour in terms of business and ICT. Of the 34 micro-enterprises that took part, most them knew of the concept of growth and maturity of the enterprise, they used none discernable metric to measure their internal and external activities regarding ICT investment. It highlighted the alignment of business and ICT as a major issue that needed to be addressed in order for micro-enterprises to be competitive, improve performance and returns. The recommended model from the research provides a formalised process that covers both the micro-enterprises internal and external matrices when deciding on the ICT investment to be made

Przedmiotem badań niniejszego opracowania są dezyderaty dojrzałości strategicznej zdolności przedsiębiorstw wytwórczych działających w sektorze maszyn rolniczych. Fundamentalnym celem badań jest określenie poziomu dojrzałości parcjalnych (funkcjonalnych) stanowiących o strategicznej zdolności badanych przedsiębiorstw. Osiągnięcie celu głównego wymagało sformułowania i zrealizowania celów cząstkowych, którymi nakreślono: nominowanie dezyderatów determinujących dojrzałość strategiczną (kwerenda literatury), skompilowanie modelu badawczego w postaci arkusza oceny (eksploracja piśmiennictwa oraz badanie eksperckie) oraz rozpoznanie poziomu dojrzałości strategicznej wśród producentów sektora maszyn rolniczych (walidacja modelu teoretycznego). Rozważania zawarte w pracy są umiejscowione w naukach społecznych, a dokładniej – w obszarze nauk o zarządzaniu i jakości.The subject of the research of this elaboration are strategic maturity desiderata of the corporate capability of manufacturing enterprises operating in the agricultural machinery sector. The vital goal of this study is to determine the level of partial (functional) maturities constituting the strategic capability of the investigated enterprises. Achieving the main objective required the formulation and implementation of partial goals, which were applied to outline: nomination of desiderata determining strategic maturity (literature query), compilation of the research model in the form of an assessment sheet (literature exploration and expert research) and recognition of the level of strategic maturity among manufacturers of the agricultural machinery sector (theoretical model validation). The considerations contained in the paper are embedded in social sciences, and more specifically; in the field of management and quality sciences

Enterprise Architecture Maturity: A Crucial Link in Business and IT Alignment

    Get PDF
Misalignment between the business and IT function is an inhibitor in the achievement of competitive advantage. Enterprise Architecture (EA) promises organizational benefits including a closer alignment between IT and business. There is some argument about the true value that EA can provide. Some organizations credit their EA with creating significant value while other EA programmes fail. In response to this we explore whether EA fulfil their purpose in reducing the gap between IT and business. We conducted a case study of five companies that had EA functions. While we found that EA does not make alignment between IT and business more difficult, we did identify that many businesses do not achieve the purported benefits of EA because of poorly executed EA. We propose a four-stage maturity model for EA that encompasses the characteristics of EA, the ‘soft skills’ needed, and the business benefits available at each stage of maturity

Determinants of emerging technology commercialization: Empirical evidences from MEMS technology

    Get PDF
Currently most of studies on commercialization of the emerging technology considered the context in developed countries like US, Japan, and EU with few research on developing country like China. To fill this gap, taking 112 Chinese Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) enterprises as a sample, this thesis empirically investigated the determinants of emerging technology in China. Through multiple regression analysis, the empirical results show that technology property, market conditions, regional innovation network, and enterprise capability are main determinants of MEMS commercialization whereas social environment and policy and regulation do not have significant impact on the performance of MEMS commercialization.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

An investigation of Business Process maturity: a case study in a South African parastatal

Business Process Management (BPM) has become one of the management approaches adopted by many organisations that strive to survive in a turbulent and competitive environment. BPM offers the means to manage and optimize business processes with the objective of improved efficiency and effectiveness; thereby improving the potential of business success. However, the extent to which BPM influences business success is a matter of debate with diverse schools of thought finding it difficult to reach consensus regarding the critical success factors of BPM and the extent at which processes and people influence business success. The capability of an organisation or enterprise is the ability to deliver on a desired outcome. In this dissertation, the enterprise capabilities of BPM are investigated. The research sets out to investigate the BPM maturity level of a South African parastatal. The intention is to identify and improve on those factors that influence maturity of the enterprise capabilities and may have negative impact on stakeholders. The approach taken to address the research objectives drew on case study methodology. Fieldwork was conducted using company documents, observation, a questionnaire and in-depth interviews. The questionnaire responses were qualitatively analysed using the categories of Hammer's model of enterprise capability. The research findings identified weaknesses in all categories of enterprise capability though expertise appeared to be thriving. The findings further suggest that weaknesses in leadership and the leadership style in particular impact on the effectiveness of business processes. The leadership style was seen as the major driver to impede process effectiveness. The following themes describing leadership style were derived from interviews: creation of sense of belonging, degree of approachability and extent of collaboration. In order to improve the BPM in the case company, the following recommendations were made: communication sessions, awareness training and process remodelling. The research study also provides the opportunity to understand BPM in a broader context, thus having potential for transferability to other organisations

This paper describes an empirical study comparing two competing perspectives for explaining information technology (IT) penetration in organizations. IT penetration is defined as the extent to which IT is embedded within an organization\u27s strategic, managerial, and operational work systems. With the first perspective, IT penetration is hypothesized to be related to the implementation of a comprehensive set of management processes for the information systems (IS) function. With the second perspective, IT penetration is hypothesized to be related to the effectiveness of IT-related interactions among an organization\u27s managers, To strengthen the study\u27s research design, the hypotheses are examined separately across two samples of organizations. Senior ]S executives completed the study\u27s research instrument. Respondents in the first sample represented 132 large organizations across a variety of industries, while the respondents in the second sample represented 44 business units within a large, high teChnology firm. IT penetration and IT-related managerial interactions were measured at a subunit level, while IS management processes were measured at an organizational level. The study\u27s findings supported the research hypotheses. *The authors wish to thank Omar El Sawy and anonymous reviewers for their helpful comments on earlier drafts of this paper
