    Due to the effect of citation impact on The Higher Education (THE) world university ranking system, most of the researchers are looking for some helpful techniques to increase their citation record. This paper by reviewing the relevant articles extracts 33 different ways for increasing the citations possibilities. The results show that the article visibility has tended to receive more download and citations. This is probably the first study to collect over 30 different ways to improve the citation record.     Kvalitet naučnih rezultata podrazumeva značaj rezultata, uticajnost, vidljivost i pozitivnu citiranost. Kao pokazatelj, citiranost publikacija je važna kako za autora, tako i za ustanovu kojoj pripada. U savremenom društvu, sa razvojem tehnologije i Interneta uspostavljeno je globalno predstavljanje znanja i obezbeđivanje pristupa znanju, a samim tim i obezbeđivanje dostupnosti citatnih baza podataka većem broju korisnika. Iako se u literaturi naglašavaju nedostaci merenja citiranosti kao pokazatelja kvaliteta, ona je i dalje jedno od merila vrendovanja učinka istraživača i institucija kojoj pripadaju. Većina autora traga za najuspešnijim tehnikama za povećanje citiranosti svojih radova. U radu je dat predlog za povećanje citiranosti korišćenjem specifičnih metoda, koje su autori podelili u tri oblasti: putem kvaliteta i strukture naučnog rada, izbora naučnog časopisa i promocije rezultata istraživanja

    Highly Cited Papers in Library and Information Science Field in the Web of Science from 1983 to 2018: A Bibliometric Study

    Abstract This bibliometric study set out to evaluate and analyze highly cited papers in Library and Information Science field (LIS) in the Web of Science database from 1983 to 2018. In this bibliometric study, the required data were extracted from the Web of Science database. First, all documents under the rubric of LIS subject area, including 366,756 documents, were retrieved. The search was then limited to the highly cited papers. Of these papers, 433 ones were in the top-1% percentile rank. Finally, after the bibliometric data of the highly cited papers were extracted in plain text format, Excel and VOSviewer software were run to analyze the obtained data. The results showed that the Highly cited papers in LIS (433 ones) were published in the period 2009 to 2018. The highest number of highly cited papers belonged to 2014 (57 articles) and the subject area was Computer Science Information Systems (239 papers). Moreover, Thelwall, the University of Maryland, the United States, and Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association were the top authors, universities, countries, and journals for publishing LIS highly cited articles, respectively. The co-authorship map revealed that Thelwall, M, ranked first with eight co-authorships. In addition, Haustein, S with 6 co-authorships and Lariviere, V with 5 co-authorships were in second and third places, respectively. In addition, the co-authorship map of the countries publishing the Highly cited papers in LIS showed that the most papers were co-authored by the United States and China (link strength = 24). The results of most frequent keyword visualization indicated that in the last five years, concepts such as bibliometrics, altmetrics, social media, information systems, meta-analysis, electronic health record, social networking sites, and big data have been the most important keywords in Highly cited papers in LIS

    Five hundred most-cited papers in the computer sciences: Trends, relationships and common factors

    This study reveals common factors among highly cited papers in the computer sciences. The 500 most cited papers in the computer sciences published between January 2013 and December 2017 were downloaded from the Web of Science (WoS). Data on the number of citations, number of authors, article length and subject sub-discipline were extracted and analyzed in order to identify trends, relationships and common features. Correlations between common factors were analyzed. The 500 papers were cited a total of 10,926 times: the average number of citations per paper was 21.82 citations. A correlation was found between author credibility (defined in terms of the QS University Ranking of the first named author’s affiliation) and the number of citations. Authors from universities ranked 350 or higher were more cited than those from lower ranked universities. Relationships were also found between journal ranking and both the number of authors and the article length. Higher ranked journals tend to have a greater number of authors, but were of shorter length. The article length was also found to be correlated with the number of authors and the QS Subject Ranking of the first author’s affiliation. The proportion of articles in higher ranked journals (journal quartile), the length of articles and the number of citations per page were all found to correlate to the sub-discipline area (Information Systems; Software Engineering; Artificial Intelligence; Interdisciplinary Applications; and Theory and Methods)

    Research on sharing economy: why are some articles more cited than others?

    The present article seeks to identify the reasons why some articles are more cited than others, with a specific focus on the recent and innovative research area of the sharing economy. To determine how characteristics of the research drive citations, we carry out a systematic analysis of articles published from 2012 to 2018 in high-impact social science journals. Comparative analyses were conducted to visualise what features relate to higher citations. The results show that citations vary depending on the approach, field, unit of analysis, and the data analyses used in the research. Our contributions will be useful both for authors when deciding the type of analysis to undertake and the journal to which to send their papers, as well as for editors setting editorial policy

    Analysis of the 100 most-cited papers in one of the leading Library and Information Science journals “Scientometrics”

    Scientometrics is one of the leading peer-reviewed journals in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS). The present study is aimed to evaluate the salient characteristics of the 100 most-cited papers of Scientometrics. The bibliographic data of most cited papers were extracted from the Scopus database. The attributes of selected papers were analyzed by using Microsoft Excel, VOSviewer, and Biblioshiny software. These papers were published between 1979 and 2017. All papers gained citations with a mean ratio of 332.86 citations per paper and the range of citations varies from 155 to 3,222. These papers were contributed by 221authors, with an average of 2.21 authors per paper. Thirty-two papers were contributed by a single author pattern and these papers gained a higher proportion of citations as compared to multi-author papers. Likewise, the open accessed papers gained more citations as compared to subscription-based papers. Glänzel W. emerged as the most prolific author while the United States contributed the highest number of papers. This paper also highlighted the frequently used keywords and the analysis of cited references. Scientometrics is an important journal that has been providing a platform to LIS researchers, focusing on research evaluation, altmetrics, bibliometrics, and citation analysis, etc. The findings of the current study assist to recognize the publication trends and research markers in the area of scientometrics

    Maximized Research Impact: Effective Strategies for Increasing Citations

    The high competitive environment has forced higher education authorities to set their strategies to improve university ranking. Citations of published papers are among the most widely used inputs to measure national and global university ranking (which accounts for 20% of QS, 30% of THE, and etc.). Therefore, from one hand, improving the citation impact of a search is one of the university manager’s strategies. On the other hand, the researchers are also looking for some helpful techniques to increase their citation record. This chapter by reviewing the relevant articles covers 48 different strategies for maximizing research impact and visibility. The results show that some features of article can help predict the number of article views and citation counts. The findings presented in this chapter could be used by university authorities, authors, reviewers, and editors to maximize the impact of articles in the scientific community
