    A study on performance metrics and clustering methods for analyzing behavior in UAV operations

    Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are starting to provide new possibilities to human societies and their demand is growing according to the new industrial application fields for these revolutionary tools. The current systems are still evolving, specially from an Artificial Intelligence perspective, which is increasing the different tasks that UAVs can perform. However, the current state still requires a strong human supervision. As a consequence, a good preparation for UAV operators is mandatory due to some of their applications might affect human safety. During the training process, it is important to measure the performance of these operators according to different factors that can help to decide what operators are more suitable for different kinds of missions creating operator profiles. Having this goal in mind, this work aims to present an extensive and robust methodology to automatically extract different performance profiles from the training process of operators in an UAV simulation environment.     Active learning based laboratory towards engineering education 4.0

    Universities have a relevant and essential key role to ensure knowledge and development of competencies in the current fourth industrial revolution called Industry 4.0. The Industry 4.0 promotes a set of digital technologies to allow the convergence between the information technology and the operation technology towards smarter factories. Under such new framework, multiple initiatives are being carried out worldwide as response of such evolution, particularly, from the engineering education point of view. In this regard, this paper introduces the initiative that is being carried out at the Technical University of Catalonia, Spain, called Industry 4.0 Technologies Laboratory, I4Tech Lab. The I4Tech laboratory represents a technological environment for the academic, research and industrial promotion of related technologies. First, in this work, some of the main aspects considered in the definition of the so called engineering education 4.0 are discussed. Next, the proposed laboratory architecture, objectives as well as considered technologies are explained.     DETECTA: Investigaci\'on de metodolog\'ias no intrusivas apoyadas en tecnolog\'ias habilitadoras 4.0 para abordar un mantenimiento predictivo y ciberseguro en pymes industriales

    This work presents the results of the DETECTA project, which addresses industrial research activities for the generation of predictive knowledge aimed at detecting anomalies in machining-based manufacturing systems. It addresses different technological challenges to simultaneously improve the availability of machinery and the protection against cyberthreats of industrial systems, with the collaboration of knowledge centers and experts in industrial processes. Through the use of innovative technologies such as the digital twin and artificial intelligence, it implements process characterization methodologies and anomaly detection in a non-intrusive way without limiting the productivity of the industrial plant according to the maintenance and remote access needs. The research has been supported by a general evaluation of connected environments in small and medium-sized enterprises to identify if the benefits of digitization outweigh the risks that cannot be eliminated. The results obtained, through a process of supervision by process experts and machine learning, have made it possible to discriminate anomalies between purely technical events and events related to cyber incidents or cyber attacks.Comment: in Spanish languag

    Deep Interest Evolution Network for Click-Through Rate Prediction

    Click-through rate~(CTR) prediction, whose goal is to estimate the probability of the user clicks, has become one of the core tasks in advertising systems. For CTR prediction model, it is necessary to capture the latent user interest behind the user behavior data. Besides, considering the changing of the external environment and the internal cognition, user interest evolves over time dynamically. There are several CTR prediction methods for interest modeling, while most of them regard the representation of behavior as the interest directly, and lack specially modeling for latent interest behind the concrete behavior. Moreover, few work consider the changing trend of interest. In this paper, we propose a novel model, named Deep Interest Evolution Network~(DIEN), for CTR prediction. Specifically, we design interest extractor layer to capture temporal interests from history behavior sequence. At this layer, we introduce an auxiliary loss to supervise interest extracting at each step. As user interests are diverse, especially in the e-commerce system, we propose interest evolving layer to capture interest evolving process that is relative to the target item. At interest evolving layer, attention mechanism is embedded into the sequential structure novelly, and the effects of relative interests are strengthened during interest evolution. In the experiments on both public and industrial datasets, DIEN significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art solutions. Notably, DIEN has been deployed in the display advertisement system of Taobao, and obtained 20.7\% improvement on CTR.Comment: 9 pages. Accepted by AAAI 201

    Data-based fault detection in chemical processes: Managing records with operator intervention and uncertain labels

    Developing data-driven fault detection systems for chemical plants requires managing uncertain data labels and dynamic attributes due to operator-process interactions. Mislabeled data is a known problem in computer science that has received scarce attention from the process systems community. This work introduces and examines the effects of operator actions in records and labels, and the consequences in the development of detection models. Using a state space model, this work proposes an iterative relabeling scheme for retraining classifiers that continuously refines dynamic attributes and labels. Three case studies are presented: a reactor as a motivating example, flooding in a simulated de-Butanizer column, as a complex case, and foaming in an absorber as an industrial challenge. For the first case, detection accuracy is shown to increase by 14% while operating costs are reduced by 20%. Moreover, regarding the de-Butanizer column, the performance of the proposed strategy is shown to be 10% higher than the filtering strategy.     AI and OR in management of operations: history and trends

    The last decade has seen a considerable growth in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for operations management with the aim of finding solutions to problems that are increasing in complexity and scale. This paper begins by setting the context for the survey through a historical perspective of OR and AI. An extensive survey of applications of AI techniques for operations management, covering a total of over 1200 papers published from 1995 to 2004 is then presented. The survey utilizes Elsevier's ScienceDirect database as a source. Hence, the survey may not cover all the relevant journals but includes a sufficiently wide range of publications to make it representative of the research in the field. The papers are categorized into four areas of operations management: (a) design, (b) scheduling, (c) process planning and control and (d) quality, maintenance and fault diagnosis. Each of the four areas is categorized in terms of the AI techniques used: genetic algorithms, case-based reasoning, knowledge-based systems, fuzzy logic and hybrid techniques.
