    Aspectos prácticos en la prevención del cáncer oral

    El cáncer es una de las principales causas de morbilidad y mortalidad en el mundo. Por esta razón, la lucha contra el cáncer debe ser interdisciplinaria. Entre un 80 y un 90% de las neoplasias se relacionan con factores externos al organismo. Alrededor del 35% de estos factores tienen relación con la alimentación. La mayoría de los tumores malignos tienen una latencia de 10-20 años. Todos estos aspectos hacen que sea posible su prevención. La quimioprevención del cáncer persigue retrasar la aparición de la carcinogénesis, mediante agentes que previenen, suprimen o revierten transformaciones malignas. El objetivo de este trabajo radica en destacar aspectos etiopatogénicos del cáncer, así como proponer medidas de prevención frente al mismo

    Octyl methoxycinnamate as the active material of the sunscreen would be degradated after being exposed to the sunlight. Curcumin, rice flour and the extract of Plontago moior, L was the material that could function as the sunscreen, The aim of this research was to know the SPF value and the physical characteristics of cream of the sunscreen with the active material octyl methoxycinnamate after the addition of the optimum composition of curcumin and the extract of Plontogo major, L and the optimum composition of rice flour and the extract of Plantogo mojor, L. ln this research three formulas was examined, i.e. the formula I with the active material octyl methoxycinnamate, the formula ll with the active material octyl methoxycinnamate and the optimum composition curcumin and the extract ol Plontogo mojor, L, Formula lll with the active material octyl methoxycinnamate and the optimum composition rice flour and the extract of Plontogo mojor, L. SPF value of each formula was determined by using the Petro method (1981) using UV spectrofotomeric method at a l, 290 nm-320 nm. The physical characteristics i.e. the power spread, the adhesiveness and the viscosity were also examined analysed with Anova one way at a confidence level 95%. Result of the research show that SPF value increased after the addition of the optimum composition of curcumin and the extract of Plontago mojor, L.     Free radicals are involved in various diseases and skin aging. To reduce and prevent this risk, our body produces antioxidants that can neutralize free radicals. However, some antioxidants need to be taken up with food, so a balanced and varied diet is essential for human health and beauty, along with sufficient exercise. Vegetables, especially curly kale, show very good antioxidative capacity due to the presence of carotenoids. As the recommended daily intake of vegetables is usually not consumed, dietary supplements are a good possibility to ingest carotenoids in a controlled and natural way. The positive effect of carotenoid-based dietary supplements on the skin has already been shown in several studies on healthy volunteers. Innovative non-invasive measuring methods have shown that oil extracts from vegetables significantly reduce not only free radicals in the skin but also the age-related breakdown of collagen and have a positive effect on skin parameters such as wrinkle volume.     Antioxidant Activity of the Phenolic Leaf Extracts from Monechma ciliatum in Stabilization of Corn Oil

    The total phenolic content and the antioxidan potential of methanolic extract (ME), ethyl acetate extract (EAE), and hexane extract (HE) from Monechma ciliatum leaves (MCL) were evaluated. The Folin-Ciocalteu, b-carotene bleaching, the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging and the accelerated oxidation methods were used for evaluation. Both the extraction yield and the antioxidant activity (AOA) were strongly dependent on the solvent. Among the extracts, ME exhibited highest total phenolic compounds (TPC) and IC50 values for DPPH, followed by EAE and HE, respectively. Peroxide value (PV), anisidine value (AV) conjugated dienes (CD), and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) were taken as the parameters for evaluation of stabilization efficacy of MCL extracts and results revealed MCL to be a potent antioxidant for the stabilization of corn oil. As a general trend, increased AOA was observed for increased extract concentration. The predominant phenolic compounds identified by HPLC-DAD in MCL extracts were p-coumaric acid, vanillin and ferulic acid

    Characterization of lubricated bearing surfaces operated under high loads

    The composition and surface profiles of M-50 steel surfaces were measured after operation at high loads in a bearing contact simulator. An ester lubricant (trimethyolpropane triheptanoate) was used with and without various additives. Optical profiles were obtained + or - to 30 depth resolution with a phase-locked interference microscope in 10 micron diameter areas within and outside the wear tracks. Optical constants and surface film thickness were measured in the same areas with an electronic scanning ellipsometer. Film composition was measured with a scanning Auger electron spectrometer. It is concluded that metal oxide formation is accelerated within the wear tracks

    Ved at vælge grovfoder i den økologiske ægproduktion, som har et højt indhold af karotenoider eller indhold af de rødlige karotenoider, f.eks. violette gulerødder eller grønkål, kan æggeblommens farve påvirkes i en positiv retning. Desuden kan grovfoderet bidrage til et øget indhold af sundhedsgavnligt lutein i æg. På sigt vil øget viden om karotenoidindholdet i forskellige foderråvarer og grovfodertyper kunne bidrage til, at en ønsket blommefarve kan nås og bibeholdes på et stabilt niveau
